Typically, nothing is louder or cleaner than the PA speakers (unless House Party, crummy club etc). And you don't have to carry anything!

I know I'm loving the sound of my Peavey t25 through a tube screamer into a peavey MKIII bass head!  get just the right combo and it can really sing!

a new Mackie 4-buss 1604vlz is $899 at every big box place online that I checked

my GC has 5 of these used for $299 each.   this is a stellar deal for a 4-buss Mackie. may be worth having one shipped if anyone needs one.
