I just learned that DiMarzio holds a trademark on double cream humbuckers.

im now jamming bass through my peavey bandit 1x12. that amp kicks ass for bass. sounds as good as my ampeg rocket that just died.

Just for home?  Not loud enough for a drummer though.

its loud af. no problem for living room jams with the full band. i have more headroom than i did with my ampeg that was damn near maxxed out to hear it. probably half the reason it died.

For the past few months my band (mostly me) have been putting out a podcast on Spotify called "Super Action Talk". We play a bunch of songs from a wide variety of genres and talk a ton of shit.
The big thing that we're doing now is running a bracket for the Worst cover song of all time. This week it's Lenny Kravitz "American Woman" vs Ozzy's cover of "Mississippi Queen".  The first weeks songs of "Simple Man" by Shinedown and "Whiskey in the Jar....O" from Metallica kind of turned into a shit show. But we had a ton of fun with it.

We been running the polls in the bands Instagram stories @massdriverband and on our facebook page.

And in case you ever run out of podcasts to listen to. You can listen to ours here

This is pretty cool.  Did you know I moved to Johnson City?  Been here since June 2020.

It's Les Paul shaped so there's that. But what is it?

its a real tarantula, deceased obviously, encased in some sort of resin, backlit with leds and put in the neck pup position (obvs). i kind of like it but something about a dead tarantula weirds me out.

No I didn't. That's cool man. What do you think of it? We'll play up there from time to time. Usually at the hideaway.

I like the small town aspect vs Charlotte.  Haven't ventured out to venues yet.  The Hideaway doesn't post anything calendar related to anything but Facebook and I'm not in there, so it's tough to know what's going on.  No marquee either.  And since their shows are from 10-3am a little unattractive to me.

Downtown is a little gunshot crazy right now.  Bunch of businesses in an uproar.  I think that's happening all over the country right now though.
Vinyls.   deal.

The Hideaway is on Instagram at _thehideaway_ if you're on there.

Capones will have decent bands from time to time. There is a "club" in the backside of that place where all of the college kids go. I wish the bands played in that area instead of the front. The room looks like it's something out of the Matrix and has a much cooler vibe.

I haven't spent a ton of time in Johnson City except for when we've played there. They do have a couple of cool music stores downtown that I'll check out if we have time. And there is a German bar/ restaurant that we'll usually grab a drink at before a show that's worth checking out.

Getting to field test string brands now that I have some shows to play.

Trying DR Pure Blues vs GHS Burnished Nickel Rockers, 10-46 in E standard. 2 sets of each, alternating brands between string changes.

No obviously noticeable diff in sound, but the DRs seem to stay in tune a little better.

The plus of the GHS is on the high strings the little pokey end that sticks out from where the ball end is tied is *much* smoother and I don't have to be as meticulous on orienting them such that the pokey end isn't sticking out (they tear into my pinky finger).

Have one more set of GHS for the following weekend and will complete my findings then.

So far advantage: DR

Taking a little extra time when changing strings to properly orient those lil pokey fuckers is worth not having to tune between every goddam song.

I've been using Beefy Slinky's on my drop tuning guitars for years and have always used Regulars on my standard and tremolo set ups for even longer. My number 1 needs a string change. I'll do that today.

Haven't fired up the big rigs in a few weeks. I'll do that today too.

I've never had good luck with Ernie Balls but know tons of folks who swear by them.

I edited the typos and autocorrect so my last post sounds like a sane person.

Anywho, while I did all that I realized I had my Chase Bliss Automatone on my upstairs HIWATT rig so I grabbed my old Dirty Little Secret. Used to be my #1 OD pedal. Man that thing rips. Now I remember why I used it so much but....nothing beats the versatility of the Automatone. That and I've been using  Mr. Black Super Extra Five Thousand.

I have a lot of pedals.

I currently have 10 on my main board haha ugh.

Used to use my DIY Keeley modded Blues Driver as all-in-one dirt. But realized I needed a lower gear OD too which a DIY Klon Centaur is covering nicely.

Then I got into fuzz and liked the raunch of the Creepy Fingers Harakiri, while also enjoying the butteriness of a DIY germanium fuzz face.

2 ODs, 2 fuzzes. And don't really even stack them. Each pedal is its own sound.

That four dirt pedals scenario is one reason I like the Automatone.

Stumbled onto a cool and fun tuning for a remote recording project.

Needed to re-record some guitars, but the original is on a 7 or 8 stringer and in C

Tried tuning a guitar to C G C on the bottom strings. Then tuned the B string to C

So the guitar is C G C G C E

Strings are flapping in the breeze but it's been fun playing around with it. Probably an old blues slide tuning that's been around for 100 years.

I was wrong by one string, Bron Y Aur is CACGCE.....at least the way I learned it. But to the original point, I love that low C on an acoustic guitar.

I thought page liked DADGAD tuning.

Here's a first: my D string the wrapping had separated and was in sections on the string.

Noticed this literally 3 seconds before we began the set so there was not much I could do but hope for the best.

String was dead but held the entire set.

Have a backup guitar and extra strings but they were all in the trunk of a car some distance away (very very small venue).

The singer kept wanting me to solo more to fill out extra time hahaha fuck.
