Got a new band going, kind of like Emerald Douglas but maybe a little darker and less cosmic/stoner and we have a vocalist. So a 3 piece but no bass and instead of two rigs I'm using just the bass side but without the EH Pitch Fork for 1 octave down notes. Epi carved top LP in G#(14-68), Boss Hyper Fuzz > a few psych pedals that I'm using sparsely > Aquilar Tone Hammer preamp > 1,100 watt SS class D power amp > two 600 watt bass 1x15s. No guitar amps, no guitar cabs. The tone is blowing my mind, maybe the heaviest I've achieved so far. The bass speakers are super warm sounding and the FZ2 into Tone Hammer sounds really mean. I think I'll be loud enough live. Super fun. Completely separate from my strictly studio clean vocal doom metal project.

Anyone aware of any inexpensive flanger pedals that one can in one way or another adjust the volume on? I'm done buying pedals without some type of level/mix/volume knob.

Maybe you can get a blend pedal and keep the pedals you have?

Wouldn't a Boss LS-2 do that? A+B Loop, one loop effected, one loop clean, with the levels mixed to taste?

I bought a Roland sp404-SX sampler, it hasn't arrived yet. Anybody used one of those?

Anybody here use Logic at a high level? How did you learn it? I see there are classes but they're expensive, like $1,000 for a 2 day weekend seminar. No way I would ever pay that much, I wouldn't even pay that much for two days of one-on-one private instruction.

Last night played an Amplify Austin event at the local public access studio. Quick duo set with Stupid Drama on bass and backing vox.

Knew Deann Rene was on the bill (play bass with her) but thought we were going to miss her. But she was setting up solo when I got there so played bass/harmony vox for her too haha :)

Tonight going down to San Marcos to do a radio thing with Heather Bishop (guitar) and talking Ocean of Stars. Then on bass for gig with a blues cat.

Had a gig fall in my lap then fall through for Saturday so will probably go see friends play with an AZ friend in town for the weekend.

Sunday playing with Deann Rene  for her monthly residency at Saxon Pub. May hit up a friend's documentary opening and hit an open jam later that night. But may just call it after the gig.

Something like that could work but I'm trying to keep things simple. I'm happy with my vibe clone and my delay as they are fully adjustable, don't currently have a flanger though, never owned one actually. Only seeing more expensive units with actual volume knobs on them.

Lumpy

Backing off on "Depth" should give you more subtle flanger results. Maybe you're referring to problems with volume drops/increases, want a boost for solos, etc.

The "Zero Point" flanger from Catalinbread is super subtle. So subtle that people say there's "Zero Point" to using it (you can barely hear it). It's got a cool "reset" momentary switch on it, which brings you back to the beginning of the flange cycle. You can ride that, in time with your riffs, which is nice than a typical flanger that doesn't reflect what you're playing. No other controls on it, just two stomp switches though.

Yes volume is the issue as some modulation effects pedals are too quiet or too loud when switched on.

I like pedals that can do subtle but can also do extreme sounds that dominate the signal path. That can cost real money but not always.

We spent the day in the studio recording a song that we're going to make a video for. It turned out really rad

I love my GnL's but my old Fender sounds so good recorded. I've used it on damn near everything that I've ever recorded

The guitar player picked up this 3 watt Carr amp a few days ago. It sounds absolutely fantastic recorded. He used it for his lead and for another guitar track over his JMP. Pure tone zone!

I used my new Union tube and transistor sub buzz fuzz pedal for a part at the end of the song. The last few times that I recorded I would run the P straight into the big orange head and overdrive the shit out of it.
I wanted to try something a bit different this time. The pedal sounds fantastic. It has huuuuuuuuuge bottom end to it

Guitaro with his sweet ass Les Paul

Me trying out like 6 vocal mics at once before hollering and  dropping some dope rhymes

We also just got asked to play like three more out of town shows. So there is a ton of shit going on with MD right now!

Always interesting what works live vs in the studio.

Some of the best recorded bass tone I've ever achieved was my epiphone valve standard 15w guitar amp chassis pushing a lower-end Ampeg 4x10 haha *shrugs*

Stumbled across that out of necessity as that little piece of shit was my only functional amp at the time :D

The guy that shoots all of our video stuff made up a teaser for the studio video that he shot last week. It's pretty funny, I'm looking forward to seeing what the completed thing looks like

This TC Electronics Mimiq pedal looks kinda cool. Doubles your guitar track in real time. In my experience, some of the other TC Electronics effects are missing something (I've tried the delay, reverb and vibrato mini pedals) but maybe this one will be different. I saw a demo where they were doing Metallica type riffs, and it seemed cool. Chorus thickens your signal too, but adds a cheesy gloss.

Keeley has a pedal like this too, with reverb and chorus options too, but I think I like the straight doubling better... skip to "Brown Sugar" around 4:00 if you're bored.

Definitely sounds cool. And it's not expensive.

I don't post on here much anymore but would like to acknowledge that I used to sometimes act like a complete jackass. I'm sorry. I've been making real strides over the last few months with getting my shit together mentally. Having said that, I will continue to fuck up at times but I'm trying to minimize these occurrences. This post is partly a fuck up but at the moment it seems worthwhile.
