Tell me if this is correct- Gibson intentionally puts the fatter "50s" neck on their lower priced guitars knowing that some people don't like them and will spend considerably more money on 'standards'/etc that generally have a '60s/slim taper/medium neck.

Pretty much every $400/500/600 Gibson I see on the used market has the 50s neck. Blah.
A spokeshave can fix that. I'd offer that as a service if people weren't so "but omg its a new Gibson! Omg!"

AKA "zero resale value"

^well then, after the thin job, you may as well have him scallop the frets for you too.

Lumpy

He just scalloped the frets on a Squier for me :D

Tip:

When learning new songs, licks, chord shapes, etc., practice 'em right before bed to "tack" them into your brain; then, do a short review session in the AM to nail 'em in proper.

Could this partly explain weak lead tones?

stock Epi F/trem/wide spaced bridge pup
(camera wasn't 100% parallel, it's worse than it looks)

'standard' spaced

Obviously I realize that the stock Epi pup is problematic(tone wise) but it's the spacing that I'm talking about.

Another example of liquidsmoke trying to reinvent the wheel or time to try blade pups?

Mr. Foxen

Can probably move it closer to the strings, see if that helps.

Danny G

I had to reseat the neck pickup of my Paul Stanley Iceman as it was mounted wrong to the point where the pick guard didn't fit right.

Korean factory for you.

Tried that on the thin string sides and now the pups are cocked a little bit on that side which lines the poles up a little bit more and closes the distance too. I think the tone has improved and the volume sounds more even among the strings. Good tip, thank you. Case closed.

Also raised the low side action a bit on one of the guitars and palm muted chords now have more chunk and clarity. I get wanting low action but when it makes your guitar sound like a trash can, no. A friend of mine claims not to notice this on his guitars and to me they are pretty much unplayable. I'm baffled but whatever works for him, eh. He's 10 times better a player than I am so there is that.

Hey Gibson, make your adjustable zero fret nut more like this one-

An actual fret that is adjustable is appealing to me. I've had strings wear down/slice into nuts over the years.

I have a UFO, it's really good. The basic fuzz sounds great, and the octave is more noticeable than other octave fuzzes (based on Youtube videos and A/B'ing it with a couple of other octave fuzzes). You can dial the octave in to taste, too. I would offer to sell mine, but the last owner changed the octave stomp to a momentary switch (octave is on, as long as you hold the switch down) which seemed like a good idea, but it turns out I'd rather leave the octave on all the time. If you can replace the switch or if you like the idea of a momentary octave, let me know.

The Zvex Octane is a great octave fuzz too, expensive, but heavy.

Thanks for the offer! I will definitely consider it.

this is an awesome concept.  also the open won't sound like an open, just another fretted note.

also, yeah, a G-string slicing into a nut would take any dude out of his game pronto. can't have that.

sounds like a country song..

"Ahhh just broke the e on mah cortez,
and a g string sliced into mah nut
the sounds are pretty horrific
lahk a cello shoved up ______'s butt"

also provides generic fill in the blank name availability, like the chicken joke:

"Why did _______ cross the road? Because he couldn't get his dick out of the chicken.
everyone needs this one in their arsenal, i'm tellin' ya...
it has served me well ever since I heard it when I was working at a restaurant in like early 80's

that's great :).  so I was poking around that station's website(nice layout btw) and found this band called Casual Strangers.

they weave a serious psychtrance tapestry like hawkwind-floyd.  would that be a fit for OoS to do a show with??? these guys are cosmic

I played the "holocene Dream" song

https://www.facebook.com/CasualStrangers/videos/vb.293630384102424/753524611446330/?type=2&theater

oh yeah, danny, link some of your RPM challenge results into the gen discussion hobby thread and also a video of OoS.

Danny G

Sweet, I'll check them out. Thanks!

I didn't mean to set out to play instrumental music, it just kinda happened, so I've been finding myself at a loss as to who to try to play with haha

that song was instrumental. that's what gave me the idea.
although both Floyd and hawkwind have vocals, in hindsight, I was referring to the music itself.

mortlock

my band just got rejected by a company we are having a cassette made with. they are making the tape, but they farm out the j-card to a local print shop. he told me he couldn't send them the artwork because its run my middle aged christain women and the art work of satanic naked chicks combined with the band name [unholy semen] might be too offensive for them and hurt his business relationship with them.

I just laughed and said ok. ill find someone else to print it. on some weird level I actually feel good about this.

jibberish

dammit mortay, I keep looking at those scallops. damn those really REALLY look good.

jibberish

I've just noticed a pattern of something I do occasionally. if there is a bunch of associated words like especially in a title or name, I sometimes grab the wrong one.
I have corrected quite a few that I have caught. I remember calling the ac/dc song thunder haha

then when I got my HM-2 switched with MT-2, everyone went apeshitstorm on me when i'm trying to explain that a MT-2 sounds great. haha

I just did it again "Rain on the Plow" I could have gone with blood on the scarecrow too I guess . ferfuckssake, I am working inside the song and I still do that shit.
