Hey y'all

I'm thinking about getting a set of Dirty Hesher pickups from Lace to put in my epi explorer. I've got EMGs in it now (81/85). They are cool but a little sterile sounding some times. I'd like to try something different as I've been using the EMGs for a long time. Would also be interested to hear about the Drop n Gain pickups from lace as well if anybody has them. I read that Wino uses them and I've always liked his tone especially on the newer stuff like the Shrinebuilder album and his stuff with Premonition 13.

Thanks

My friend, Casey, from Order Of the Owl absolutely STANDS by his Drop N Gains.  I'd really like to get dirty heshers myself for my SG. So, I'm interested to see who has tried them and what they think. Lace seems like they're the way to go.

Yeah man. I love the sound that wino has now with the drop n gains. It's like Tony Iommi on Steroids.

I had a pair of Dirty Heshers put in last week, they sound huge. Stoked!

Yeah, have a set of Heshers and Lifers on the go right now. I slightly prefer the Lifers but I think that's because I prefer the guitar they're in. Both are great pickups though, no doubt.

I'm absolutely flat out at the studio at the moment but I'm really hoping to find a little time to do some clips of them both soon. The Lace demo's aren't great.

The Lifers are in a Custom Shop Class 5

The Heshers are in a modded Buckethead sig. It's a 27" scale length, 24 fret. It has an oversized body also, about 10% larger than a regular Les Paul.

dirty heshers?  dude from high on fire has had a ton of different amps endorsed, histone is there no matter what amp

So Lace posted a new video of Matt Pike demoing the pickups.

I like a little less gain than the drop and gain that have been around for years that Wino is now endorsing

Wino's Signature set "Lifers" is based on the Drop & Gains with modifications for Wino's desired tone and look. These mods include a silky top end with a crunchy bottom end. His tone is designed to drive your amp better.

I have Seymour Duncan custom 5 bridge and Pearly Gates neck in my gibson SG standard :)

Yeah, I tend to go for pickups with slightly less gain also. Most all of my other Les Pauls have Suhr Doug Aldrich pickups in them which are killer.

Both of the above guitars did have Aldriches also but when my former band split I fancied a change and didn't have to worry about maintaining a consistent, recognisable tone. I'll be leaving the Lace in, they really are great and will feature heavily on my new band's forthcoming record.

Awesome I'm getting a new guitar soon and I'm gonna go with either the Lifers or the heshers. Thanks all

SunnJake will be installing some Lifers in one of my SG's sometime soon.  Hopefully he'll chime in on them when he does.

Hi dudes,

First post, I just found the forum but after three whole minutes it looks radass. ANYWAY.

I have Dirty Heshers in my two Les Paul Customs. Love em. Got the coil split setup in one of em which I never really use, but overall I think they are fantastic. Huge sounding, not too gainy (unless your amp is gainy I guess) and responsive to volume and tone twiddling.

My band Black Snake has an ep out, recorded on with the LP Custom/Dirty Heshers, Matamp Classic 120 through and Orange cab, songs are here if you want to check em www.reverbnation.com/blacksnakerock

Lookin' forward to lurkin' around this place.

cheers!

I'm curious about a 'take apart' of the Dirty Heshers. I'm rewiring & refinishing a fake SG that I'm going to install DH into. Since I'm rewiring my guitar, I was considering the James Hetfield EMGs since it comes with fresh wiring and pots, but the EMGs are 'genre limited' as far as I'm concerned, the DHs are more well rounded. I just don't want a logo on the pickup. I was thinking of removing the Humbucker covers. Has anyone taken them apart and taken pictures? I heard they're soldered closed, which can be undone.
Anyway, I'll take pics and post them for anyone that's interested.

They are epoxied on, too. Sand off all the plating. It's electro etched into them.

or just cover the pickup cover in gaff tape before you install it into the ring.

problem = solved

Jake

I know it's not the end-all be-all of guaging a pickup's output, but I didn't realize these pups were 19k output (bridge). That seems...well, excessive.

Isn't like the most screamin'-ist Dimarzio around 15-16k?

See? It's not just me.

They are probably just the drop n gains with the Wino/Pike markup. Just saying.

works for me. haha. I'm going to coil tap the fuck out of them and put em in my SG. PUSH-PUSH's for the win!

Let me do some matching just for amusement.

Drop N Gains:

Position: neck
Resistance: 13.5k
Peak Frequency: 2260
Inductance: 6.5 henries

Position: bridge
Resistance: 24k
Peak Frequency: 2260
Inductance: 6.5 henries

Nitro Hemi Neck

Resistance: 15.8k
Peak Frequency: 2750
Inductance: 3.5 henries
Nitro Hemi Bridge

Resistance: 19.0k
Peak Frequency: 2600
Inductance: 4.6 henries

Heshers:

Position:Neck
Resistance:15.8k

Position:Bridge
Resistance:19k

Lifers:

Position:Neck
Resistance:13.5k

Position:Bridge
Resistance:24k

Winos are definitely Drop N Gains. Heshers are the Nitro-Hemis. See, I wasn't just talking out of my ass.
