So I was reading an article on Iggy Pop's tour rider, and looking at the document, I was surprised to see that they spec out Laney Nexus bass gear, and Eden as second choice. Seems like Mr Watt has decamped Eden to Laney (he's on their artist roster online), yet still also on the Eden roster, that was it, nothing too exciting, though I did snort when I read the comments on Ampeg gear ;D

Funny... I've honestly never played Laney gear other than the SS guitar combo I have and I don't love it.  Never gigged Eden gear either, but a local shop has a ton of Eden gear and it's cool.  Doesn't seem super outsanding to me but I didn't crank it.  Probably was better before Fender got their hands on em, but I digress.  I still love Ampeg gear & think it sounds bad ass.

Fixed ;D

Our high school had a couple of 40W Laney combos, I used to play bass through it.

zachoff

Totally bad like ass.  Isn't a fart a sort of awesome distortion?  Point. Made.  haha.

Pissy

I wonder how often their request is met with an SVT350H on top of one 410.
Vinyls.   deal.

Is that where they all go, hire companies? I got rid of mine, traded it for a Peavey Classic 50 head. I don't play guitar, but I'd rather have it, than the SVT350H. Might be trading the 50 for a Deuce.

Anyway, let's not Ampeg bash, we could start a separate thread for that, Surely? :)

Pissy

Mine ended up in the backline at a local venue on top of an 810. Honestly that head is fantastic for that job. Any band willing to play the backline doesn't have too many posh requests for tone, and the bands I've heard sound fine with it. Distinct no, but good enough.
Vinyls.   deal.

Pissy

I'd also be curious to know how many Nexus' were sold in the Us. I'd be amazed if it was over 50.

No wonder Eden plays second fiddle to Laney, on the Eden website it mentions Mike Watt's ruptured abscess in his perineum. Who the fuck wants that in their bio? Maybe it was to get back at him for two-timing?
Those Laney's seem pretty monstrous, wonder if they sound good. Just thinking, doesn't seem like many people use those 400w Marshall bass heads either.

zachoff

I have zero experience w/ the new Marshall bass gear but have heard nothing but bad things.

Lumpy

I would consider the gear rider to be less of an endorsement and more just going with whatever gear you're familiar with. If you're using a different rental rig every night, you don't want to fuck around learning a new amp all the time. Watt probably owns a Eden and so it's easy to dial it in.

I think that goes for a lot of gear preferences as well. I like playing Fender basses, I don't like Rickenbacker basses. I learned how to play on a Fender though, so Ricks feel foreign to me. So yeah, "I don't like Rickenbacker" but I'm not trying to say they aren't good instruments, it's just not what I'm used to.
Rock & Roll is background music for teenagers to fuck to.

They are good, but there is so much eq options and such that you can make them sound totally aids pretty easily, on the plus side, there are bypass buttons for most of it. Also there is so much headroom couldn't get any power section grunt from it.

Big fan of Laney amps.

Watt had to use Ampeg stuff a few years ago as per Iggy's wishes/band endorsements but he always preferred the Edens so I'm gonna presume the Laney gear is also a band endorsement and not his first choice. Think his comment on the Laney site refers to what I'm saying.

He was using the Eden VT300's from what I saw recently, why would Ig have a bass amp endorsement? I guess he moved on to Laney's, he's on tour just now, wonder what he's playing there.

Same reason he sells insurance? I don't know but I do know I read that Watt was told he had to use the Ampegs and I'm 99% sure it was at Iggy's say so. maybe it was just aesthetics.
