Stainless steel drums

So does anyone know if there's a company other than Trick that makes custom metal drums - particularly toms and bass drums? I missed a chance to buy a pair of Ludwig 28x14 stainless steel bass drum shells a couple of weeks back and it's making me crazy. If not, does anyone know a good source for old stainless steel Ludwig marching drums (particularly 28x14 or longer bass drums)?

I've not heard of this before, but I'm intrigued by the idea. Is the idea to make a brighter & louder drum?
