So i think a thread for builders here might be nice, as I usually do a spam thread for this crap but id like to have a place where I can show my current crap for peoples opinions and what not

So neways

here is my latest pedal project

They are LRC based mid range boosters, one is a adjustable one and the other is a 1 knobber with a fixed center frequency, they are not yet done just waiting on the inductors to come in.

I am charging about 150 for the FAC style one, 100 for the 1 knobber.

Ill have some demos up soon, its mainly being used by people to boost into a fuzz or Dist pedal

Wow. I'm really in no position to buy one, but Good God they're pretty inside too. I think I need more of a Rangemaster or Screaming Bird thing.

This is a FET style booster so its got a different feel than a BJT booster esp a Ge one like a Rangemaster.

you could build a Ge BJT booster with 3 modes, Treble, Full, Mids, where you have normal Treble style boosting, flat boosting, and a fixed center frequency mid range booster.

I used his as a basic design idea but modified the biasing a smidge to my own liking then of course made the bypassing via a bandpass filter

Any concerns with weakening solder joints when using the solid core wire as you do, Dunwich? What with stomboxes being subject to abuse and all. It looks clean for sure.

All of that wiring looks so clean I really want to order a batch of solid core and re-do all the wiring in my guitars. Whenever I wire in a new pickup or something it's always a gong show / rats nest in there.

No, those are some of the most solid-built pedals I've seen since Brad from Creepy Fingers/Fu Manchu started building. God I wish I had $100 lying around.

I also use solid core in my amps 2 which have some undergo heavy vibrations and I have not had any problems. Pedals do undergo mechanical abuse from ppl throwing them around but again no problem so far

That's why orange drop caps have those little kinks into them, for stress relief. If I had my old job, I'd offer to put it on the vibrating table, see how it held up. Maybe your uni has them?

yup Orange Drops, i doesnt usually have them in my amps but instead the Mallory 150s and Sozo's

I was using the kink in the orange drops as an example of stress relief, which was what Ayek mentioned, then suggested if you want to test your units properly, take them to a G table, which you may have in your university engineering dept. When they teach mil-spec wiring, your shown, not to solder point to point, but to come down off the turret along the chassis floor, and then back up, that way your wiring can flex.



see how the yellow and black wires are, in the bottom right of the pic? I think that's what Ayek was meaning. Always have at least one bend in your wire, for flexing.

i am not sure if they have a vibration table at uconn, but possibly

wish they taught wiring and such but not as a pencil pusher would u get that kind of experience. Everything I do is based on trial and error, learning over time.

I recall vaguely having a piece of hardboard, with a bunch of pins, and a rotary switch like that one on it, which we used for practice. Any one who works on a military contractors assembly line could probably teach you a few tricks, that's more or less who taught us. I used to know the proper way to lace a wiring harness, one thing I wish I could still remember properly, maybe it's like knitting and I'd pick it up again.

The vibration tables are really cool, and it's surprising what happens to equipment on them. If you do find one, and buzz some of your gear, do be prepared for it to break :'(

Stress relief, that's what I'm talkin' about ;). I usually use flexible wire whenever I can in control panels and such which often get hacked about and changed and fixed over time. Though it's nice to be able to replace a stomp switch or a jack or whathaveyou without fear of stressing something else.
