Yup, I did that once, too. There are some schematics around using 6ac7 as the input preamp tube. Kinda along the lines of the very first Fenders w/ 6sj7 as the first tube.

I should buy a bunch of them, make each of them into oscillator circuits, and play the cans with drumsticks, now that would be a sound
