Couldn't the island be tropical, or at least sub-tropical ?   

And make sure it's one of the islands formerly occupied by pirates, so there could be some hope, however slim, of finding some buried treasure. Airlift me about 100 cases of Whaler's Rum and 1000 cases of Pepsi 2 liters while you're at it. I'll learn to like it without ice.
