No, I meant your "new" girlfriend/avatar.

I remember when you posted about you and R.W.
It gave me the sads, but your attitude, perspective and quick bounce back were inspiring.

For real.

For whatever reason, I was conned into seeing the latest Adam Sandler movie, "Blended" and it was, with little to no hyperbole, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I mean, I thought "Grown Ups" was bad, but, damn, this one made that one look like "Bridge Over the River Kwai" or some shit. What the fuck is Adam Sandler doing these days? Just cranking unmitigated shit and smiling all the way to the bank? It's to the point the movies are so bad it's almost like they've become parodies of themselves, yet nobody seems to be in on the joke (even Sandler himself). Just atrocious.

I still love Punch-Drunk Love. Everything he's done since, is frankly, none of my concern.
Oh Andy I'm gonna go over to mount pilot and worship Satan

It's probably hard to know that you're making shit when everyone around you tells you how awesome you are, and you're filthy fucking rich. Just a guess.
We didn't come here for economic politics or religious bickering, we came to rock.

Not sure if I posted this yet. Got this on DVD 2 x-mas' ago and only watched it recently during a short cable outage one afternoon. Had all of the trappings of a good movie, just not done well. Good cast, somewhat underutilized; boring, rushed plot.

7.5/10

(Worth a watch on TNT I suppose  :-\)

It's a not so well kept secret that he sees these movies as paid vacations (they always seem to be in some nice place, I'm guessing Blended isn't any different), and a way to make his friends some money. If the studios continue to give him funding and people continue to shell out money to see the movies he's not going to stop. And why should he?
Being a fan of his from the Billy Madison/Happy Gilmore days (not embarrassed, fuck you) I can't even fault him for this. The guy is playing the system - more power to him. And occasionally some gems or semi-gems like Funny People and That's My Boy (yes, I liked that one too, fuck you) get made. And from what I've heard, he's a genuinely decent person. I'll continue to watch his good and mediocre stuff, and avoid the really bad stuff.

Control (Joy Division bio pic)

Good cast and the direction seems fine, but not much of a story there (he's 23 when he dies, not much time to cover). No real insight into his character or the band, beyond stuff you probably know already if you know anything about Joy Division (except maybe that he had an unhappy marriage, and epilepsy). Doesn't seem like enough reason to kill yourself on the eve of your first US tour, but maybe that's just me. I wasn't a huge Joy Division fan (so maybe I missed the part about marriage and epilepsy IRL). They were certainly an interesting band (from an era where there were loads of interesting bands) so maybe more fandom might have kept me engaged (or conversely, made me even more disappointed by the lack of depth). It's not a bad film at all, just a letdown. Based on a book by his wife (and co-produced by her) so a lot of screen time spent on the marriage. Maybe she didn't get to know him extremely well.

In the extras "The Making of" they show color footage (the film is in black & white, but it was shot on color film for it's smaller grain structure, then color-corrected B&W). Well the color footage versions just look a LOT better IMO. The film is just emotionally flat, and it looks flat too. And maybe that seemed like a clever aesthetic choice in the planning stages, but in reality it mostly works against the film IMO, since we're supposed to care about what we're watching, right? There's also a few vibey shots in B&W (look how alienated!) which maybe seem a little too overwrought. On the positive side, the gig and band related scenes seem to feel authentic, which is more than you can claim about many 'rock' bio-pics.

6/10
Rock & Roll is background music for teenagers to fuck to.

I really liked Control, and compared to terrible rock & roll movies like What We Do Is Secret it seemed like a win.

Cold in July..

Good escapism from the director of stakeland.  Michael c hall shedding his Dexter skin in fun/violent revenge flick. This and Blue Ruin...all sorts of win. Kind of a 70's noir feel...to both actually.

The Raid 2 - holyshit/10

I didn't think they could top the first one, but I think this one may even be better.

The actions is better in the second one, no doubt, but I do really enjoy the minimalistic, no-bullshit approach of the first one.
