I'm an Apple nut - so I don't have anything to compare it to. I imagine there are cheaper streamers.
It doesn't have Google Instant Video, but I can get that through my PS3.
Integrates with all my Apple shit, so I can use iPhone or iPad as the controller, rather than the remote. Makes searching, and entering info, much easier.
They haven't updated it with a new unit in quite some time, so Mac Rumors suggests waiting for the new one (if you're worried aboot that kind of thing).

I currently live in the middle of nowhere, with my only internet connection being a WiFi Tower.  That pretty much fucks me oot of doing any serious streaming...so, at the moment I just use it with my home network libarry.

Well I pulled the trigger on one - $80 shipped from Amazon.

I'll basically use it for Netflix streaming and watching videos the wife and I recorded on our iPhones.  Maybe Youtube stuff.
Currently streaming Netflix through my Blu Ray player, but it sucks.  Very buggy

Jor el

Sweet.
I thought they were $99

What makes it buggy? If it's your internets, it would be buggy on another player, no?
The Apple remote is basic, but works fine for the menu. The menu is fantastic. Get the remote app for the iPhone - entering keyboard stuff is much easier.

They have a Netflix app and then a bunch of Apps that are of lesser interest but there's an HBO, Vevo, YouTube.

I like to be able to play the Apple Libraries I have loaded up, iRadio, and I use the streaming from my iDevices all the time.

No, it's the player.  I have to unplug it every time to re-set it and re-enter the login info for Netflix.  Which wouldn't be a problem, but the remote sucks.  It was almost impossible to set it up initially too. I like how Apple products just work and are so easy to set up.  have a Mac Mini, iPad and 2 iPhones, so I went with the Apple TV over the Roku.

It's on sale today on Amazon.

MadJohnShaft

I would kill for a comcast/xfinity app on Apple TV - the main barrier to using it is that you need to switch over from the cable hdmi input - a no fun task.

Apple TV is better for streaming Netflix because it allows you to scan forward through the picture whereas Netflix only fast-forwards without being able to see what you're fast-forwarding through.

The End.

The Bandit

If I am watching porn on my iphone or mac, can I get it to display on the tv?

Yes, if something on your phone does not have the Display-On button built in you can send your whole phone screen to the TV using a button labelled 'mirroring' and output anything up there. Turn iPhone sideways.

I had it for a couple of days a couple of weeks ago-- returned it.

After using my PS3 and a Roku for a while now, it felt like a step backwards.  What a dumbass remote/navigation scheme.

The new roku with the headphizzle jack in the remote rules.

Really! I am surprised.  I keep figuring out new ways to use this - I have a nanny cam app and I can put that on the big TV with four webcams and it's a big hit.  You can do cool stuff with FaceTime calls.

That app I mentioned - my new file browser + MP3 player has made me amp-up my IT infrastructure game at home - I have the main MP3 folder backed up automatically to four locations I can access from my iPad/Apple TV to play loudly over the stereo instead of stupid fucking TV.

Searching around for records on the MP3 directory that's saved on the built in hard drive on the Apple Time Capsule navigates blindingly fast. There's like 9000 albums on there. All awesome.

Do you have two networks at home - like one Ethernet into your cable modem and one wi-fi?  You need to put the Apple TV on the network with your iPad and then it will work slicker than shit. I had setup a Comcast wifi and my apple wifi and they would occasionally restart into differs networks.  Uh-huh.

I use mine but not all that much.  If I go to play a video and choose to play it through the TV then the phone sleeps the video stops.  Junk.

Why you playing movies through your phone?
You crazy Bastard.

To not use the stupid remote I guess.

Fun fact: the remote still does its things, even when you are streaming from your phone.

If you can't figure out how to disable your iPhones power save then this new future is not for you.
