I think this album should have come out as an OM album, it's dynamics fit more as OM 3.0 vs Sleep 2.0, and it would have probably landed better with the fanbases under the OM brand (though, to be fare, it's also something different from OM's catalog....so I am sure plenty of OM fans would take issue with this if it was released as an OM album).

I have never been much of a Sleep fan, OM is my favorite band though, and I am really digging this album right out of the gate. I dig that it's Al centric, even Al/Dale centric, with Bud being more support, playing off and accenting that great rhythmic duo. That all feels more along the OM playbook than Sleep's, so I get why Sleep fans would take issue with this album...but, that's not me, this all works really well for me.

Nice man very cool. Yeah it's definitely centered all around Al. I mean it would not be there if it was not for Al for sure. He's not doing a lot with his OM project OM sounds amazing though. Would like to hear a new album of that if he can get some aggression out of his base, that would be nice some distortion I like the new album as far as all the different types of albums out there, it's not my favorite this year but it's reasonable. I've just not gonna listen to it a lot and I'm definitely not gonna pay $100 to see the show this month in Austin Texas for SLEEP I still got my trustee Rickenbaker base and my trustee AMPEG V4 base B head and 410 cabs which sounds spectacular regardless of whatever the musicians do but yeah, I was chasing some tones on that SLEEP trip I mean the future is always upside. Everybody will always say they're gonna record 20 albums in the next five months and do tours in five continents and everything good like that so I mean, yeah let's see if they gel and can do the hippie stoner jams for hours on stage and make it sound real good but it's like kicking Tommy Naomi out of the band and then being like well we're gonna replace it with somebody. Well let's go with some people that we have never heard of her seen or nobody knows about. I mean the Melvin's yeah I get it but that style of drumming like doesn't exactly scream out. Let's let's do a guitar solo jam, sort of style of drumming, but I mean if they could make it work, I mean, I watched the video of their last performance. I don't think that ticket buyers are gonna be demanding their money back or anything like that, but I think the shows will be small until they can you know get things back together with a singing being stronger and the jamming being stronger maybe good luck to them. I'm not gonna see their show. Maybe wait a couple years until they get it going real strong maybe I'll come drop a couple pounds and get his beard back to get some of this stage presence not hide behind a keyboard. He plays like five notes on. It's kind of a antic and not and not like real music antics

Here is what they sound like live with their new Drummer and their new guitarist as well and no Matt Pike

I was hoping for something way more epic band sleep like when Al played in shrinebuilder:

I just saw Sleep when they hit Albuquerque, and thought they were great. But, again, I like the dynamics of this version of Sleep, which is definitely in full force live.

Nice! I suppose I would go is they played at a bar near me for $25 cover....Tickets are $100 for me in Austin Texas later this month. Pass. I saw them in Dallas 10 years ago with pike playing almost the same set with pike using 12 orange amps all dimed. Loved the old drummer too had the right chemistry.....future is always upside

since they are just mainly covering their old stuff when playing live, like a cover band, I shall post here my homage to the old material and my online coverband of Sleep covering DRAGONAUT:

After tax, my tickets were $50, so expensive but not as crazy. While I wouldn't have spent $100 just for Sleep, I probably would have for that Levitation Fest lineup.

Dale Crover is one of my favorite drummers, I love combining him with Al. I think it's a killer combo, personally.

Also, my set was the new album, with only 3 old songs (Holy Mountain, Dragonoaut, and 1 other).

thanks man ya I am spoiled I have already seen the melvins with two drummers on stage entire set very cool.....loved sleep I saw them live with Pike was absolutely killer.....I am greedy for playing guitar and seeing shows....  looking to buy more guitars and amps haha I dont own a 5 string and see I should get a starter for $100 before going hogwild with the crazy guitar tech setups and fancy appointments so I will just play what I have right now until I can justify playing longer time periods daily I think I am gonna buy it though: only $109 gotta do what I gotta do haha https://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/rogue-lx205b-5-string-series-iii-electric-bass-guitar/h11149000004000

since High on Fire Pike is now missing from Sleep I feel he is a legend so I gotta add him back to this thread haha ....also love love his bassist JEFF MATZ playing and tone on the DUNABLE basses I play fingerstyle with three fingers and not super high on the neck like AL does which is cool just never seen any other bassists do that....  ALL HAIL PIKE THE RIFFMASTER  ;D
