Which ones do you like?
We went to this one and it was great. Sabor A Cafe Colombian Restaurant. I got bandeja paisa, which was that recipe for beans from the recipe thread.
This video shows that dish but not enough of their food.

Well why can't we start a new one? Once this shit is a year old no one cares.
I think what morty is saying is that he doesn't really like "restaurants", he eats at dive bars. This here's a restaurant thread.
The hot chick in the kitchen at the Colombian place is not observing health regulations what with her hair down and her arm pits exposed. Why do some of those hot Latinas have those gruff voices? If she was my wife I would maker her change her name to Carnita and I would have her voice surgically altered to be more feminine.
Some of my favorite places in and around Portland.
Tasty and Sons. The guy in the video is a dipshit. the restaurant is in a hub type building with a bunch of other business and restaurants. In the video right before they go in to the left is Chop Salumeria. Super awesome charcuterie.
Toro Bravo. Tapas,tapas,tapas. Hells yes!
http://www.torobravopdx.com/
Interurban. One of my favorite bars that coincidentally does rad food.
http://interurbanpdx.com/
The Woodsman Tavern.
Ox. MEAT
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKUw6xc53K8
Nuestra Cocina. We always sit at the chefs counter.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR_Z_iH4wEQ
Lapellah. I have a job here any time I want it. Chef/owner is great guy
http://www.lapellah.com/
Fishwife. Kinda nondescript but oh man the seafood is so so so fresh and awesome.
http://www.thefishwife.com/
Ya Hala. Killer Lebanese
http://www.yahalarestaurant.com/
There are so many more
I've eaten at Tasty and Sons and The Woodsman. Both are money. We had brunch at Tasty and Sons and everything had an egg on it. We had the seafood platter with a really nice bottle of champagne and some really good beer at The Woodsman. I'm also a fan of Dot's Cafe and Le Pigeon. Potland is a bad-ass food city.
Chicago: L2O, Avec, and Blackbird.
Austin: Uchi, Fonda San Miguel, Louie Muellers, Torchy's.
San Francisco: French Laundry, Boulevard, Betelnut, Bouchon, Bistro Jeanty
Charlotte: Soul, Barrington's, Lang Van, Bistro La Bon, Block and Grinder, Midwood Smokehouse.
Asheville: Curate, The Admiral, The Yacht Club.
These are a few of my favorite things...
I've never been to the French Laundry and I have the nerve to call myself a foodie.
It was quite an experience. My wife and I went there on our honeymoon in 2002. I still remember almost every course.
I would probably not go there again but if I lived out there I would eat at Bouchon once a month.
Did you know that Thomas Keller does not ever use celery? Completely omitts it from a mir poix
I did not know that. Does he not like it personally? Kind of weird to not put celery in a stock.
Says it makes stocks and dishes bitter. I've recently been braising it as a main ingredient to a side. I love celery in all it's forms. There are people that think cilantro is soapy. Tastes nothing like soap to me. I go through at least a bunch a week.
I used to work for a guy that did braised celery. He would peel it, then tie it, sear it and then braise it in white wine and chicken stock.
I think it definitely has a place. I think you would miss it if it wasn't in a stock.

i dont understand the thread...which restaurants do I like?
you mean like Aquavit? El Boutin? Tojo's?
or local stuff?
Don't over think
over think? narrow it down a little...its like your asking what our favorite music is or something...

If you're looking for a lot of fussy rules and regulations they have that at The Obelisk. You have to read a 7 page FAQ to even visit.
Here you can make your own rules, like when your White Relative slave owners populated the West, to escape conscription in the Confederate army.

my white relative slave owners stuck it out in Sullivan Illinois with the rest of you uni-toothed flatlanders. back then the only restaurant I can recall was mickey D's and I think ya had to drive to Decatur for that.
now theres probably a nearby olive garden...progress.

Seattle has awesome restaurants like Ivars or The Spaghetti Factory.

Evanston got 5 new restaurants this fall - a fancy one, a local food and brew place, a Mexican tortas shop, an authentic Chinese place from Chinatown and the woman that sells empanadas at the farmers market is opening a storefront place on Noyes by Northwestern and an EL stop - go American dream
(http://o2.aolcdn.com/dims-shared/dims3/PATCH/format/jpg/quality/82/resize/736x590/http://hss-prod.hss.aol.com/hss/storage/patch/d2925853772decf0528a539bbd60b099)
You may be familiar with Tania Merlos-Ruiz's empanadas from the Evanston Farmers Market, where her fresh, creative fillings are a hit with customers.
The pipian empanada, for example, is based on a family recipe from Guatamela, and combines pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and mustard greens, while the cochinita pibil is made from slow-roasted pork marinated in fresh orange juice, fresh lime juice, achiote and oregano.
"This is our first year doing this, and people have liked them very much," says Merlos-Ruiz, who also sells empanadas at the Glenwood Farmers Market and the Low-Line Market in Lake View.
Fans of Merlos-Ruiz's cooking are in luck, since she and her family are opening a bricks and mortar location in Evanston this October, at 914 ½ Noyes St. Called Tomate Fresh Kitchen, the new restaurant will serve carryout and delivery for lunch through dinner.
They did so well that they ran out of food.

I so happy for them. We got their food delivered to work for lunch this week and you could tell they just opened, the driver got lost and the food was cold. You could still tell it was really good.
Yeah! This is close by.

This fall all the Chicago chefs in River North opened branches up here in Evanston - there's like 12 new innovative/hip/unique/moms cooking/ethnic type restaurants we haven't been in yet. They're all doing smashing business so our downtown is booming.
Pittsburgh is experiencing a hipster eatery boom lately as evidenced by the bizarre foods episode here last week. If only I had an interest in eating a raw goats heart.
We put French fries on things too.
goat's heart, sliced thin and cooked on a skewer over coals, though? fuck yes.
last weekend, in the area for a funeral, we went to 'the fort' in morrison, co. focuses on game meats and 'pioneer' food. had quail eggs wrapped in bison sausage for appetizer, followed by their 'game plate' - an elk chop, some bison steak, and a teryaki quail. meat!
I definitely would try it but not seek it out.
I wish I had a relative that was a hunter... I have no source for any game meat.

Went to a new place tonight. The owner owns a couple other places I frequent. One other place is a German bier bar. This place has nicer stuff and a higher end menu as far as German food goes. Called Stammtisch. Food was super good all house made. We had two kinds wurst, bread and obatzda, and jaegerschnitzel with spaeztle. super good. Inside needs a little dressing up.

Milwaukee had some serious German restaurants I'll tell you that. Maders was where you could take your prom date if you were real classy.
There's a couple more here but they half ass it. Just put some Reser's sausages on a plate with some kraut and mustard. German food!! Or some jarred fondu type thing. German Food!!
Stammtisch takes the time to make everything in haus. The red cabbage and kraut were ethereal. Tender spaetzle and super rich mushroom gravy. They have schweinshaxen for fucks sakes. After the meal I had an Underberg.

It's actually the red onions that make it fancy.
is that a creamy sriracha sauce?
youre looking at a Rochester style meat hot sauce drizzled with yellow mustard over two cheeseburg sliders, homefries, bowtie mac salad topped with red onion.
rager..ill give you that with the red onion however, I think its more the placement of the red onion. they almost make it look like Chinese writing..trust me on this..its the bowtie pasta, and the 'pork' meat hotsauce. and the presentation. this is actually on a plate. I usually have mine in a take out container..
call me hoity-toity, but I think I'd prefer a creamy sriracha sauce to the yellow mustard drizzle
Evanston is getting 10 new restaurants a quarter now and they are all packed. The ones owned by Chicago Restaurants and local residents are doing great, the chains are struggling. City must be making bank and all the liquor. There's no fucking parking anywhere now.
Bangers and Lace bar with food opened in DT - meat and beer.
10 Mile House opened, which is nice because that area by the Stadium has no restaurants - bar food, bbq, and a bar, they are going to get filthy rich.

The bustling food scene in Evanston gets a new entry starting today at 4:30 p.m. with the arrival of Ten Mile House (formerly named The Wood Shed) in the Central Station building. Ten Mile House, named in homage to "Evanston's first gathering point" founded in 1836, will seat 110 throughout its dining room, 25 at the bar and more in the outdoor patio (once warm weather returns to us).
From a team that includes Unite Urban Grill owner Joe Krouse and a kitchen headed up by Lettuce Entertain You vet Greg Carter, Ten Mile House is implementing a menu filled with comfort-food favorites alongside healthier items.
The wood-burning oven will crank out pizzas including The TMH which featureshouse barbecue sauce, white cheddar, pork shoulder, thick cut bacon, roasted garlic and crispy onions. Guests will also have a plethora of ingredients to create their own pizzas as well. Also on the menu are starters of chicken chorizo sliders and gruyere fondue gratin; a vegetarian caponata "sub" and Ten Mile "gyros" featuring roasted leg of lamb with chimichurri sauce; a herb-basted grilled salmon salad; sides including grana padano polenta, and caramelized cauliflower; and entrees like herb bbq airline chicken that features vegetable hash. The oven and menu items of smoked meats seems to have inspired the dining room space. The bright, airy eating area features chopping block-like table tops and rustic wood flooring. Inside the dining room at the kitchen pass is a storage space for chunks of wood to feed that oven. Booths stationed at the windows feature bright orange backing, an eye catcher for street traffic. Take a stroll through the space in the gallery above.
See Ten Mile House for yourself when it opens today. They'll be open for dinner Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. with Friday service operating from 4:30 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. They are open on Saturday for lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 a.m., and on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Stay tuned for updates on when weekday lunch and weekend brunch begins.
Is Chicago Restaurants a restaurant group? We have one here called Chefstable. All top notch.

Evanston finally realized how much tax money they were losing, from residents who had to leave Evanston to go out for dinner. Last time I was there, I saw a lot of "PF McGillicuddy's" and stupid franchise restaurants (Nothing But Cookies, Grandma's Soupery etc). They're really crapping the place up.
Also, BBQ sauce on a pizza is disgusting.
No it's high end stuff, there are zero of those.
BBQ sauce on anything is disgusting. on pizza it becomes an offense greater than any food offense ever in the history of humans eating food..
Right on, BBQ pizza is gross and stupid.
A lot of pizza ideas are stupid over complicated crap. I'm not much of a fan of BBQ sauce. My very good chef friend makes a really good BBQ sauce that everybody loves and I'm just like meh......
Look at this shit, there's so many they won't all display

Chili's, Jimmy Johns', Flattop Grill, Noodles & Company (maybe not a chain but it sounds like one).
What i said... franchises.
but you can't put a price on close proximity to the Sigma Chi house
...or the Olive Mountain (Olive Garden's macho older brother)
"Quince at the Home". for a minute there I thought Shaft was telecommuting
Bistro Bordeaux, I can pronounce that! Yet it's exotic and FRENCH.
Sashimi Sashimi. in case you didn't hear 'em the first time. Little Caesar's branches out into Japanese fare
All high end stuff.
I'm going to stab you in the face
"Le Peep". grand reopening of Ye Olde Le Poop. new streamlined name, same fantastic food
Le Peep is another franchise/chain restaurant.
All about breakfasts there.
Sorry Evanston.
It's a fail.
I'm going to uninvite you to the party
Party?
I retract my previous statement.
/waffle
Will there be a 6 foot sub sandwich at the party?
If there is, count on a large, rustic loaf with csa meats and cheeses and probably beets on it as well.
It seems that a lot of foodies like to put beets on fucking everything.

I didn't know anyone actually ate beets..
There's 257 restaurants and of course there's some chains, you fat stupid fuckbrains.
My brewery is getting their beer into a bunch of places. We haven't gone to Boltwood yet but that's the next swanky localvore one.
The city closed the horrible frat bar The Keg and the new replacement place Bangers and Lace is well loved.
We have yet to get in Found during the dinner hour - the daughter of Mortons steak house opened that a year ago, it's hip and a little snooty, and packed wall to wall every night. All the employees are sexy models.
It's hard to get restaurants right so many of them are doing something so half assed for no reason

the elk was better than the bison.
That was my experience there (The Fort) too.
