Title: People these days.
Post by: VOLVO))) on March 01, 2012, 07:48:57 AM
"I WANT TO GO TO MARYLAND DEATHFEST. Buy my amp! It's an '86 JCM800, 2203. 100 watts of mmmmmmmmm good power, sounds great. Brand spankin' new JJ KT77's and 12ax7's. Loud and clear, lots of goodness. It has no issues, but there is one tiny tolex tear on the front, but it can be glued back into place if need be. I love this amp, love love love this amp. I'm actually kind of freaking myself out about selling it, but I have to see MDF this year. I've got many things, and I've come to terms with knowing that I'll find something else that I love just as much, one day. 1100 dollars, I can flex a little bit, if you really want it, but I can't do much. HELP ME HELP YOU SOUND AWESOME... (and get me to maryland for MDF.) I don't really want to ship it, but I'll drive to meet you within a hundred or so miles, if you wanna float a little gas-cash. Excuse the piss-poor picture, but it's all I've got until I hop over and take some decent ones. Hit me with a call or text at 8504451609, or shoot me an email. Thanks a lot!

Ey, Uri! I know you're going to read this, shoot me a text, it's been a long while!"

Response to that ad:

"you must be desperate to sell it.
buyers beware of posters that post their item 1000 times a day like there item is so precious which is really someone trying to pass junk off thats half shot
dont do bussiness with posters like. and by the way anyone can mark that sticker 2203 with a permanent marker you can buy the marshall blank stickers and you can mark it yourself
so nice try and also thats not a 2203 its obvious "

My response to that ad:

"Actively trying to sell ~something~ to acquire ~something~ in a short amount of time does not make me desperate. It makes me an active seller. Every time I post this, I get offers of 500 dollars, and 600, even 950. If I were desperate, I'd bite on those. Have you SEEN the lineup for MDF? This IS urgent.

"Posting 1000 times a day" - You mean posting "posting the amount of times that craigslist allows me to repost in a given amount of time?" I changed areas, because my original area is a dead zone for selling equipment. At least in this capacity.

"Fake JCM800 2203" - Really? What makes it fake? Distinguishing factors? I'd like to see what you, an expert, sees in these pictures that makes this "not a 2203." 2203 is the designator for the 100watt version of the single channel JCM800, and before that, the JMP version of it. The 2203 is the evolution of the Plexi. 2204 is the 50 watt version. Gee... five knobs... master volume, low/high inputs, four power tubes... everything about this amp screams JCM800/2203. I obviously didn't take the 2210, the two channel JCM800, or a DSL100 and modify it with a sticker change to make it a 2203. (I used a 3d printer, by the way, it replicates the sound of a 2203, perfectly!) I guess you must think it's a heavily modified Laney AOR? Cmon, dude, get real."

Why are there so many jerks on CL?  I posted a want ad for records one time and this dude responded saying he had a ton of records.  I kept asking him what era, what genre and some names to get an idea of what he had.  His reply was for me to come to his house and check them out.  When I passed on that, he kept replying to my add calling me an asshole.

Have you thought about putting the amp on Ebay with local pickup only?  Probably reach more people hopefully including someone that might take a road trip to pick it up.

I make sport of trashing the ignorant, on craigslist.

Seriously, though, I've made some great friends off craigslist. People just text me, ask me questions aboot whatever, if I'm in town, I go jam... happens a lot. Also made a buncha business workin' on people's shit when they come to buy things from me, etc etc.

The self proclaimed guardians of the Internet. Those who reply to ads just to bother the poster because of some great injustice. If the dude thinks it's a fake, why waste both your time with responding? I don't get it.

I've done it before, but I showed up with valid information and a base for argument. This guy has no base, nor any information to support his claims.
Title: Re: People these days.
Post by: Mr. Foxen on March 01, 2012, 05:21:57 PM
What is annoying me today is lowballers who can't deal with being turned down. Sure, lowball if someone looks desperate, I do it a lot for broken amps that not so many people can fix, but don't try an tell me how much I should be selling my items for. I'm not upset by owning my 5150 and I stick it on ebay at the price I'll sell it for, not only that, but its the only one up there for sale so I'm not even competing.

I really don't want to sell this head, I was amped up about it (pun intended,) but now I'm having regret before I do it. It's the only way I can get all my shit paid off, though... So, here's my plan... sell it. Pay off all my shit, get all of my cash squared for my MDF trip, then dig up another JCM800 for cheap, and put the tan cloth treatment to it, or just get another 800 and leave it the way it is...

My ultimatum here is...  Model T for sale or JCM800 for sale... I chose the 800. fuck.

Well the build quality is superior that's for sure.  A mid point booty-q od pedal is about 125 So I figure that's fair but apparently not. :-\

Neither kit is idiot proof but I believe either can be built fairly easily

Weber is cheaper I believe but ceriatone better quality.

Could easily upgrade a Weber to nice quality shit, Tubes, Caps, Pots, Board, Transformers with Transformers and Tubes being key, with Pots, Caps and Board being secondary.

as a collector of pedals, Id pass at that price. not that its not a fair price, but its not a great price and that is not a very desireable pedal. if it were a 79 dynacomp youd have an easier sale

I don't know what the going rate is on the 800 series currently. But I remember them always being kind of overpriced (comparatively speaking). 8 bills years back was the low rate for so so quality and up from there.

"There logical reasons why you havent sold your amp
1.) power issues
2.) wiring issues
3.)not all original
4.)your price is ridiculous $1000
5.) no one wants to meet you in a parking lot with $1000 for an amp head no one is that dumb
6.)people know theres amp heads out there that would make yours sound like a dinky toy for 400-500
7.)you can buy a used marshall jcm 800 half stack for $600 completely working original cab etc no repairs
never been gigged or beat to the ground and thats a fact The deals are out there NOT JUST YOUR AMPHEAD
people would rather buy a halfstack marshall for half the price of what your asking or probably cheaper before they blow $1000
on some beat up amphead just because it says marshall go figure no one cares if its a 2203 800 the fact is its probably been runned to the ground/gigged/repaired everything is most likely not original
and your not gonna mention that. what if someone handed you $1000 for it then 2 days later they say amp doesnt work then what you gonna do youll have a big problem on your hands
because you kept things that were wrong from
them about the amp

im just saying ANYThiNG is POSSIBLE"

lololol my response:

"All things you mentioned could easily be ruled out if you came and checked it out. I'd be happy to pop it open and show you how wrong you are. If someone is selling jcm800 half-stacks for 600 bones, please direct me to them. Ill buy all of them. If you can't verify or prove any of this, you're pissing in the wind. I invite any of the people who have their doubts about this amp to cmon over, I'll go out and grab some beers for you, and we'll sit and talk amps. I'm a reasonable, level headed guy, and I'm ready to be proven wrong. If you can't do that, or you are a coward without a leg to stand on, hit me up anyway, and I'll buy you a consolation beer. My number is EIGHT FIVE ZERO FOUR FOUR FIVE ONE SIX ZERO NINE.

I never said a parking lot, or anything. I've got a place that you can come and crank this head until the cops come! I don't care! I don't think I can be any more accomdating and open. I always stick by things I sell, if it goes south, Ill help ya fix it, or have James at Class A Electronics fix it on my dime. I know it's hard to believe someone isn't out to screw you, but I'm not. Im sellin' a legitimate piece of flawlessly working equipment. Get at me."

If I can. I can't do that fuckin' "hold your money for 21 days after buyer receives product" garbage.

I've got like 73 days. I figure, if someone wants to give me 900-950 for it, I'll sell it. If not, I don't go to MDF and eat the 150 bucks I spent on the ticket.

I'll give you $600 for that amp, but only if you throw in a Marshall cabinet too.

I'm not crazy, right? If I can find those deals on Marshall Halfstacks, I'll buy all of them, for real.

Nigga please, It was made in 1986, was played from 86-88 once a month in a cover band, then put in a closet until I got it in 2009. I've gigged it TWICE, and practiced at home with it, only, lol. My T and Peavey heads have been my practice amps. I don't know if you can get one that's been more babied owned by a real guitar player.

EDIT: If someone picks it up, Nick, and I get all my shit squared away for MDF, I'll have you clone me one, hahahaha. I'd rather have one of yours than a "Marshall."

Sunn 0)), are you only trying to cover ticket cost or the trip all together?

Ticket's paid for, I bought a Dean from Hell for a pawn shop for a hundred bucks, got it back into playable and good working order, and sold it for 250. Ticket paid for itself, really.

I want to pay off my credit card before I go, I'm at 1300, if I sell the 800, I can be down to nothing. I have 73 days, and I'd sure love to be able to have 2500 dollars on an 18 hour drive to a gigantic city filled with music shops. Ya dig?

This is gonna sound stupid for one gear head to say to another, but if you skipped on buy gear in MD, could you still afford the trip?

That isn't how I do things, when I do shit, it's grand and top-of-the-line. No shit, if I find out enough of us fucking stoner nerds are going to MDF with a combination of MDF bands + other folks I know, we're getting a high-rise penthouse in Baltimore and it'll be a big packhouse for the week. Even at a grand a night, between 15 people would still be like staying at a motel 6 in terms of cost, but with all kinds of awesome perks. (This isn't going to happen, but I can dream. We'll most likely get a ~nice~ hotel room and cram as many folks as we comfortably can into it to cut costs.)

I'm looking forward to eating steaks for breakfast lunch and dinner, and buying some merch, and seeing good people/bands.

This is my first vacation of my adult life, and if it's going to be the last, I'm going to do it in style. I'm driving up with my EX GIRLFRIEND for fucks sake. I'm going to give her the best time of her life, too.

I'm buying something when I'm up there. I don't care if it's 50 bucks or 500, I'm coming home with something cool to play with as a cherry on my icecream.

Fair enough, calm down.  :D

I didn't have enough time last year in Vancouver to shop for gear, let alone sneak it past the border. Kind of disappointing but BC ain't that far away for a nice return trip.
