Pairs of 115 cabs also acceptable.

Shooting for under $600. Will most likely be powered by a GK400RB.

I noticed Acoustic B115's were going for like $130 apiece used. Anyone know about those?

Peavey is solid on a major budget, acoustic 360 sound great recorded but don't get too many this part of the world to be hearing them in person. Also check out Sunn stuff.

You could put together your own cab either.

Watch craigslist and equivalent for someone that wants a big pain in the ass object out of their way. Find one made or decent ply, score it, and figure if it can be made better with new speakers via WinISD.

Hemisaurus

Here's 2 for the price of one, you can choose to use the horn, or just plug into the woofers.

$200 for a Fender 2x15, seems dear to me, but mine came from a crackhouse, and had no speakers and was free.

$400 and you get a very cool tube amp head as well

My bass player was eying that Bassman. I told her to just buy it. If it sucks I'm sure she can re-sell it for the same price. She seems a little wary of Kustom stuff (I think it's the tuck and roll) but that is a badass amp. Wish I had 400 bones so I could snap it up myself.

They're not great for deep bass IMHO, they're pretty shallow cabs. Our old guitar player used one, with a Laney AOR 50 and it was loaded with a couple of 'Earth' drivers from somewhere else. Great sound for guitar.

Lumpy

He's gotta compete with an Ampeg 8x10. Keep that in mind.

IMO, you probably want another 8x10. Maybe one that goes a little deeper than the Ampeg.

Hemisaurus

If you want lower than an 8x10, 18" is the way to go. I have recently ridded myself of the last cab I had with 10's in it, and am very happy about it. PA cabs on bass are usually better than bass cabs on bass, for bass. 18" sub and a 2x15" ;D

Lumpy

He has to keep up with a cranked Ampeg 8x10.

(Fixed it for me).

Now what do you say.

8x10 is 80 square inches of speaker surface, or whatever (Mongo is math dumb). What (bass cab) is going to match that 8x10. I think another 8x10, maybe a Mesa Boogie or another brand.

If you can find either, I'd recommend either a Dietz 2x15 cabinet with EV's, or an Ampeg Isovent cab (slant cab with 2x10's and 2x15's).

Both can be had for under $600 cause they are kind of obscure pieces of gear, but can also be hard to find.

I don't know about SWR

Also, if I were you (Disco Rice), I would maybe put the louder amp on the bass cab, and the less loud amp on the mids cab. But I should probably stay out of this (space mates).

Man, I just picked up an older JBL cab with two new EV's for $300. The guy has two more EV's that I'm considering picking up as well.

You are thinking in 2D.

You have to realise that the speaker cone is conical, and also it's not just the amount of air moved, it's also how far it's moved, so the xmax (in/out distance) of the speaker comes into play.

Then of course there is the frequency range being reproduced as well.

Then you also have to factor in, I hate 10's ;)

Haha alright I retracted the statement about the bassman. Had an 18. It worked very well for a while, but it took a big shit. She's not looking for a sub, just a different sound to augment her current rig, and yes, supplement her 8x10.

If you have a ported cab you get double out for the octave the port is acting in.

Honestly that swr megoliath might be just the thing. Might be able to handle the crazy spikes from her 700RB, too.

I wonder if you can turn the horn off (tweeter).

It's huge and heavy. Stairs will be a nightmare.

I guess there's a thing with 'new' SWR vs. 'old' SWR? I don't know anything about SWR, they weren't considered rock amps in the past (but an 8x10 clearly is meant for rock)

Discö Rice

Well, SWR's website says that guy's purpose-built for rock. Looks like it also has a High Frequency Horn Attenuation control. Hopefully that means an off switch. Stairs are going to be a nightmare no matter what she buys. Admittedly 145 lbs. is extra nightmarish, but I can handle it (I think).

I'm not saying you should buy this exact cab, but that's my general premise -- look for an 8x10 that can take more watts and go lower than the Ampeg. Who else makes an 8x10?

My mama told me, you better shop around.

#22
Peavey, Behringer, Hartke, Basson, your local cab builder, off the top of my head.

Take more watts and go lower, probably just Basson, I think it does 4000W don't know the response, costs an arm and a leg though.

Oh and can you make a video of y'all trying to move a cab that's almost twice the weight of an Ampeg 810, that'll be a keeper ;D
