Ah, I've got a schematic like that somewhere, I think using a set of NAND's as a mixer / modulator.

The Heterodyne Space Explorer?  I built one, pretty swell.  If you hate off-board wiring stay away.  But since everyone is using using tagboard I guess I shouldn't even mention...

Mine needs an enclosure.  I keep threatening to put it in a Geiger couter for some reason.
