Worship cafe .. Ehh (RR)

(Sigh) ..Screw it, I'm done! I'm going secular. No more being a hot line where they call just to tell me their christian music dreams like some kind of therapy session just to be left hangin. Trading in all my gear for a les paul and a marshall stack. Then Im gonna start a heavy alternative Rock band called frosted flakes, lolz \m/ ..seriously though. I need to let the dark side of my vocal chords shine, or 'chine'. Thank you for letting me vent CL.

The anti-hired gun contingent on Austin CL is back in full force. Seems to happen every 3-6 weeks.

"To the musicians who feel the need to play in multiple bands or so called 'hired guns'

---------------------------------

HIRED GUNS ARE LIKE HOOKERS: when a band needs a dependable replacement bandmate, it is just like a single person placing a personal ad to find a mate. The personal ad is OF COURSE going to exclude hookers: when a guy is seeking a girlfriend to be in a relationship- he is NOT going to be expecting someone who has another 'john' to service an hour later. In my band, the guy who comes to rehearsals is the guy who gets paid at the gig. If you can't be bothered to learn the material at rehearsals and perform in a predictable manner on stage, then you are no use in a tight rehearsed act.
I can't tell you how many times over the years I have auditioned musicians and thought 'hey, this guy could handle the job if he wanted to', only to have him reply 'I don't rehearse, just call me when you have a gig'. Well guess what? He will never get a call.
And he wonders why he has to keep trolling craigslist desperately scavenging for work like a buzzard waiting for something to die.

And further- Mr Hired Gun Hooker: have you aver tried to front for a band? run a band? set up and run a rehearsal? do bookings for a band? keep your guys employed? After all- you are a pro- right?

Pro is right! Professional whore- take the money and run to the next 'john'- oh sorry- job.

I"m suprised you can eat with that mouth...

HIRED GUNS NEED NOT APPLY"

This one kind of started it this time around.

Had it been posted merely once it could have opened up some dialog. I even sent the dude a respectful email response answering his questions from my own reasons why I can't be in one band right now. His response could have been respectful but could have been snarky. Hard to tell.

But then he's been reposting few times a week which of course stirred the shit pot.

"i have to ask, why is it that musicians feel the need to troll for other band situations if they are already in one situation that looks promising. It seems to me, you may have a commitment complex, maybe its something that was developed from childhood, maybe you lacked the attention you desperately craved, who knows. But seriously, do you have to be in multiple bands to be full filled as a musician.

most startup situations require dedication, and people who are not afraid of committing all their time and efforts to making this situation a success.

i realize some of you need to broaden your skills for personal satisfaction but instead, why dont you concentrate those energies into the one promising situation you are in , instead of floundering around aimlessly for no apparent reason."

Sounds like envy and jealousy.  How have they been so wrong by someone that wants to be in a couple bands.  Like I've sid here in Portland, you almost have to be in at least two bands unless you;re a good drummer then you have to be in at least 3.  And aren't you right now Danny fronting your own band, doing the promoting, booking and handling the release, etc......?

agent of change

I think I might be the only drummer in town who's only in one band. I've actually rarely two-timed it in my whole 25 years of playing music. But also I'm not trying to make a living as a musician or get famous or anything. Just one vision for one band at a time. But no judgment or snark for folks doing it other ways.
We didn't come here for economic politics or religious bickering, we came to rock.

I would publish a hair care secrets book, but it's really only a notecard's worth of information:

Multiple bands can be great.  You don't get board from playing the same set every night.  You can enjoy a larger over all fan base and might actually play more gigs.  Just my two cents

I don't want to be in any band that calls band practice rehearsal.
It's a band, not a role in Cats.

I know where you're coming from, but disagree. Semantics, maybe, but to me, "practice" Is something a musician does on his own to be competent on his instrument. "Rehearsal" is what a a band does to prepare for a gig, performance, show, recording, or whatever you may call it. All the individual elements need to separately have practiced their instruments and parts, the band gets together to rehearse their (hopefully) synergistic performance. Tomato/to-mah-toe? I dunno...

everdrone

I dig that.  musicians showing up prepared and on time to a rehearsal?  then count me in on bass :)

Pissy

Unless a salary is being paid to a musician, then there is no basis for a demand that a musician be dedicated to a specific project.  If anyone is in a position to be demanding in that regard, then they need to pony up a livable wage, otherwise a dude has to do what he can to make ends meet.

If a person were to have to lay out of band practice (the way to refer to it) because of their square job, would dude be so miffed about it?  Same result for a different reason. And the reason is absolutely no business of his.

He's unreasonable and will go no where with other people with that attitude. He'll need to go RAGER and hide in his basement instead.  ;)
Vinyls.   deal.

RAGER

Yes I can be unreasonable.

I guess I should rehearse what I'm going to say to justJon next time I see him and want to tell him how band practice is going.   ;)
