I always look at songs that are 8 or 9 mins or longer as epic songs.  Whether you(s) agree, I'm not sure.  But here are a couple of my favs....

GodShifter

Both great tunes you selected and two of my very favorites.

I guess the longer the length, the more "epic" a tune is? But I'd think that if a band is a progressive outfit, you'd have less "epic" tunes because, by nature, prog tunes are all long  :D

A couple of my favorites off the top of my head: Pink Floyd's "Echoes" which is maybe the most epic tune in rock history (certainly in the discussion, anyway) and one of my very, very favorites: The Outlaws "Green Grass and High Tides".

I'm sure I'll think of tons of others.

Hahaha..I have alway's though of a longer song as an epic.  I'm certainly not saying a 3 minute song cannot be one either, I just never thought that way.

As for Prog, yes you are correct.  There are many many prog songs that are fairly long, and epic like  :)

..this is an easy one to pick, but it is also a great one..

^Yes, Yes!!!

Much love for this one too.

Submarine

I'm going to have to put a +1 on everyone's submissions with Echoes being truly the stand out.

Ill add two more.
Not sure if Heaven and Hell quite makes the 8 minute mark but its a fine journey.
Jacob's Ladder from Rush is totally epic.

Metal and Beer

I feel comfortable submitting "Achilles' Last Stand"

What about long, drawn-out THC/opium jams like "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys"? Maybe not enough epicness? I dunno

Hi I'm Jim from London.  I couldn't find any introductions thread so I thought I'd just get stuck in...

Yes do epic very well, one of my favorites is Close To The Edge...

I also think the Rain Song by Zep is pretty epic...

Also I don't know if this has reached classic status (yet) but Tool's Lateralus is pretty epic in my opinion...

And likewise Mastodon's The Last Baron is pretty darn epic...
