pre amp tubes in a sunn concert lead

I dont know shit about amps so forgive me, thats why im coming here.

Do any of you know if its possible to put Electro-Harmonix  12AX7EH Preamp Tubes
in a sunn concert lead head?

Not really the same thing, but you could always throw a tube-driven disto pedal out in front of the Lead?

I've a/b'd every distortion pedal I could get my hands on with the dist on the Lead and none sounded as good.  Rack mounts, Boss, DOD (hah), Rats (tons more distortion perhaps), fuzzes are different beasts seems to me.  That's got me thinking...is the dist circuit in the leads more a fuzz or a distortion?  Who would know...that guy from Monolith I bet.

The dist on the black one like i have is smooth and overdrive like... not too saturated, either.

the dist on my black and red is kind of a mix between overdrive and 70's style distortion. Not fuzz-like at all, and not super overdrivey either. the clipping is a bit "round", not so pointy. it's sorta unusual in a growly way, but it sounds acceptable.
