Thought I'd get a good discussion about BOSS pedals, didn't wanna thread-jack Clockwork's other thread.
Friends don't let friends play solid state amplifiers.

VOLVO)))

The Hi-band is a really good one, and I own the Feedbacker/Distortion.

I just traded my Boss parametric eq to the ma and pop store here for an amp. Well, cash too and a P bass body. I pretty much got screwed but it was all shit I hadn't used in years and I needed an amp.

Lumpy

I like the flanger (BF-2 I think) and the Line Switcher (LS-2) which is like a swiss army knife for effects loops, switching outputs, etc. It can do 87 different things. The bass overdrive is underrated (ODB-3) -- bass players often say they hate it. Just keep the grind knob pretty low, and use it like a real overdrive (volume up to slam your preamp) and let your amp's natural distortion come through (most people see a Gain knob and think more is better). They seem to make good choruses and overdrives.

I never really liked the Boss footswitches - you gotta really step on them. I'm more delicate than that (I like the DOD toe-tap method)
Rock & Roll is background music for teenagers to fuck to.

ha, I had a hi-band flanger. It was a weak ass piece of shit

I miss my PN-2. I traded it (+ a little cash) for my first DOD FX-33 Buzz Box. I came out ahead, but every now and then I think of use for it, then I has sad.

Sometime in the next couple of months. Drum gear is first (or my band mates will kill me), then I can try to sneak in hunks of Jaggy goodness. There's another pretty killer guitar a friend of mine has for sale that I might buy before I start the project guitar so I have something to play while I'm waiting for the parts to show up. :) Kinda chomping at the bit to get playing again.

A local store has an Xtortion XT-2.  Opinions... vary... but as I haven't played through one, I may stop by and give it a go.

i think it sounds like digital crap, but it could be good as a textural overdub?

The two Boss pedals on my board are the OC-2 Octaver, amazing pedal into fuzz, nothing else sounds quite like it, I even like it when the tracking glitches and the two octaves warble off of each other, and the PS-1r.

I've replaced that phaser a couple of times with stuff like the small stone but nothing really stacks up to it when it's slow sweeping with the resonance turned up. It just needs proper 12 VDC power to run properly like a lot of the early '80s Boss pedals.

Sound clips I've heard present it it mostly as digital crap, but occasionally someone really wrings an awesome tone outta one.  And I can get two channels of digital crap out of my PDS-1550 already.

rare boss pedals I have are the Xtortion (horrible!) and the Trem/Pan pedal (wonderful!).
3 knob japanese compressor (best compressor pedal ever made).
early phaser, roland phase 2 is awesome

I run two late 60's vibrochamps with the panning pedal for lovelystereo panning at home.
The xtortion is a conversation peice/paperweight, nothing more.
3 knob jap compressor is indespensible for what i do..um... was doin.
