The director in question is Rian Johnson, who directed Looper and a couple other features, so we're in good hands.  He has also directed other episodes that were really good.... The issue with the fly episode, IMO, was in the writing, not the directing.

i liked the fly episode, but i was trying to introduce the show to someone that week, and i had to keep saying "it's not really like this!! it's not like this normally." in the context of the show, i liked it. in the context of my life, it's still "that stupid fly episode."

Jesse is now in torture porn land.  That scene looked straight out of Saw, especially with the very evil Todd leashing him to the ceiling.

I think that is the reason walt has been shownin the flash forwards with all of the guns and poison.  He's coming back to deal with Jesse.  Either to get him out of there and make them even, or to kill him to tie up the loose end.  Also, perhaps as an ego trip if they start passing the stuff off that he cooks as genuine Heisenberg stuff.
