Jaqen H'ghar.  He was awesome in the books and they did a great job casting him in the show.  A man says.

It was the same in the books.  Except there was no Ros in the books.  There was a bit of a side story where Tyrion used to go to a whorehouse and go to his room with this one girl.  But it was just a ruse as there was a secret exit that he could use to evade those watching him.  In the book, the one cersei captures is the girl that helped him with these escapes.

Huge battle scene tonight, land and sea. HBO gave them some money. How many of these are they making - this is #9

OUTLANDAH

There's only one episode left now.

The Shocker

Man, the only thing I hate about series on HBO is how long it takes for the next season to come back on.

Demon Lung

so i just watched the first 19 episodes pretty much straight through. ive already basically proofread the story without reading the books and like deaner said it has made it very easy to follow already knowing who was who. everytime i hear the name sanser i think of that episode of superjail that had the little girl with cancer that they called sanser

GodShifter

There is no character named 'Sanser'. There is a Sansa and a Sandor, however.

Dylan Thomas

New preview is out.  Unsullied are making an appearance in the third season, that's gonna rule.

This is the only show I watch.

The fact that I kept setting my own boats on fire was considered charming.

this looks so fucking bad ass.

i watched the first two seasons before i read any of the books (and have since read them all, except that one that didn't have dany or tyrion in it). tv daenerys gets a little tough and a lot more decisive fairly quickly. while her plans don't always come together, she knows what she wants and goes for it. book daenerys spends 3 or 4 books going "oh what should i do? it's so hard!!" before she finally gets her shit together. i really like the direction the tv show is taking her.

i also really like the additions in the show that aren't in the books. they pretty much always enhance the characters and give them more depth than they have in the books. the scene in season 1 between cersei and king robert where they talk frankly about how he doesn't love her but she used to love him. the scene where renley and the poncey knight blow each other. dany locking her betrayers in a vault to slowly starve to death. all awesome, all not in the books.

Dylan Thomas

^ Huh, my experiences have been the exact opposite.  I can see that the re-writes may make for better television ratings wise.  However, I think the characters are robbed of a lot their depth and richness on the show.  The books to me depict far more vibrant personalities and complex motivations.  The biggest appeal to me is the underlying humanity of the characters, which is really achieved by the subtle and gradual glimpses into their innermost conflicts.  I realize this is hard to portray on screen, and it's done well in some instances, however, the books really accentuate the moral ambiguity that I find so mesmerizing.

Dany is the primary victim of this, in my opinion.  Take the contrasting versions of the warlock tower episode - the show condenses and reduces it to a shallow, melodramatic action sequence, where the book utilizes it as an opportunity for elaborate phantasmagoria and foreshadowing.  Even in the first season, her sacrifice of the witch to resurrect the dragons, utilizing the same blood magic that saved Khal Drogo's life, that isn't really explained or elaborated on.  Weak sauce. Her character is virtually ruined by the show.

Don't get me wrong, it's still the only show I watch and enjoy, it's just never going to measure up to the original source material.  Then again, I can't think of any show or movie that ever has, so I'm happy to watch it all the same  :D
