Movies you've seen recently

Priest, I'd be interested in what you think of the Swedish versions in comparison to the American version. I've heard good things about the Fincher version, if I'm being honest. I didn't think there was much reason to see this re-make with Craig and Rooney Mara because I have seen the Swedish version, but the reviews and word of mouth is winning me over to see the American version.

I've read all three books, too, so you can definitely say I'm a "fan".

My lady and I just got on Netflix. Awesome. Been watching a lot of great documentaries.

Low key Canadian (Willb!) movie about the hours before then end of the world.  Funny, liked it a lot.

In terms of compared to the real thing? I don't know, I don't watch MMA. Probably realistic enough in terms of moves, length of the fights and endurance of the fighters. It's just that if you compared the fight scenes to the scenes in some of Prachya Pinkaew's movies, they look more like staged fighting/show fighting stuff than fights where anyone really gets hurt.

Seriously though, stay away from this. This movie is to martial arts movies what Pearl Harbour is to war movies.

I just saw the Swedish Dragon on Netflix (still waiting for the trilogy to arrive).  Fincher's is better, hands down.  makes the Swedish one seem like a TV movie.  and Mara is far more believable than Rapace.  go see it asap!

Yeah, I checked out the Fincher version on the 1st and thought it was great, great, great. Definitely recommended over the Swedish version.

Silly, stupid AND funny.  I'm a big Danny McBride fan, so I'm not objective on this. Lots of dick jokes and Natalie Portman is always nice to look at...

Another Earth


Very subtle sci-fiction, melodrama with healthy doses of arthouse. I dug the hell out of the movie, but it's one i had to go to a discussion forum to 'get' the ending. But even then, the director leaves it open for interpretation. A movie you think about the next day.

I watched Ghost Dog last night.  Hadn't seen it before and dug the hell out of it.

There's an awesome outtake on the DVD I rented that had an acappela take of the underboss dude spittin Flava in his jammies.  Shit was uproarious.

I've really dug all of the Jarmusch flicks I've seen thus far, with the exception of Limits of Control.  I had no idea what the fuck was going on in that one.  Great soundtrack though!
