Bones Brigade: An Autobiography - 10/10

waited far too long to watch this.
Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. Everybody's gonna die. Come watch TV?

A somewhat faithful remake that gets a couple things right but of course fails when compared to the original.  If you've seen the orig, you know all the spoilers which robs this one of its power.  It's nicely brutal, Brolin is fine, the Olson sister is okay (and nude), there are some nice shots and nice moments, the big fight is well done (if even more over the top, populated with crowds of those Michael Jackson-like ethnically mixed gangs of thugs who arrive with bats and nunchaku and swords) but a lot seems cut out so it's rather disjointed and then has long stretches of exposition to explain what's going on and it really suffers from choices about characterization, namely giving Sam Jackson the chance AGAIN to phone in his part with a lot of yelling and a stupid haircut and letting Sharlto Copley go extra fey and prissy and manicured as the bad guy (after this and Elysium, maybe he's just a bad actor after all).

Anyway, it wasn't a total waste just because I knew not to expect much...

Good Argentinian Thriller (Best Foreign Movie Oscar in 09) with an unbelievable cool 5-minute-long one-take-shot in a packed soccer-stadium. It really came out of nowhere in the middle of the movie and the movie is worth watching alone for that shot.

and directed by the guy who directed my Kathy Griffin episode of SVU.

I fixed a couple of images for you, frog, that weren't showing up. Bolt, too, for his "Old Boy" review.

How was this "Crystal Fairy" thing?

21 Jump Street.  Surprisingly funny.  Never thought I'd say this, but Channing Tatum is a funny guy.

boltthrow

That movie was an unexpected delight.

The Bandit

Yeah, it was awesome.  Especially the gay stuff.

^^^^Agreed about Ain't Them Bodies Saints.  Some great imagery but dramatically inert in the extreme.

The Bandit

Finally watched Lords of Salem.  Pure shit.

boltthrow

I don't even like the title "Aint Them Bodies Saints."

JkFlesh

It sucks even worse now that I've seen it.

It was good. I did not enjoy the 27 minutes of trailers I had to endure before a 2hr plus movie. This has been bothering me more and more over the last couple of years. I try to time it so I can show up 20 minutes late to the movie, but this have been burned me by the movie already starting. They should advertise a real start time. I've got other useless shit I could be doing.

Lame. They never built up the characters enough for me to care. They wanted it to be deep and moving. All I wanted was it to be over.

I was gonna avoid this based on rg's review, but my buddy really wanted to see it.  great performances all around, especially by Woody.  I thought the characters were built up as much as they needed to be

Mert Damon? Is that the bastard child of Mertz and Matt Damon?
