I watch a LOT of horror movies. One of the biggest conversations that comes up is what is the SCARIEST movie you have ever seen?

Keeping in mind that I have a lot of movies still to see, and have not seen some movies in many years, here is a top 25 list for you, in no order:
.
.
8 classics, all must sees, but remember, all future horrors relied heavily on these:
The Shining ...
The Changeling
John Carpenter's the Thing
Poltergeist
The Exorcist
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Don't Look Now
It
.
.
The modern Group:The Descent
The Ring
The Grudge
High Tension
Martyrs
Insidious
Blair Witch Project
ILS
REC
28 Days Later
The Orphanage
The Woman in Black
Lake Mungo
INSIDE
Tale of Two Sisters
The Abandoned
The Pact
.
.
and two shorter films that ought to be seen:
The Baby's Room
A drop of Water.

These can be discussed to no end, and different things scare different people, but this is a very reliable list.

I am sure a lot of people would like to see the Conjuring on there, and some hardcore's insist that Evil Dead should be there, but at this point in my life, I think this is a very tight selection of the SCARIEST movies.

Throw Eden Lake on there for tension.

Keep in mind, this is not a "when I was young", or gory, or best list, this is just a list of "Scary" movies. Some would say no movies are scary.

Rosemary's Baby

The Omen

Suspiria

Any list must include Suspiria.  Listened to the soundtrack tonight while handing out candy.

Suspiria is an all time classic, but it is an acquired taste and like most Argento stuff has not aged well.

If I was to choose an Argento flick to put on a SCARY list, I would lean more towards Deep Red.

This is a fantastic list, although I see it more as a BEST HORRORS EVER List than a SCARIEST list.

You're Next is a future classic, as is Slither.

Rock & Roll is background music for teenagers to fuck to.

The Shocker

Throw in some old ones:

The Innocents
Black Sunday (also called the "Mask of Satan")
Also lots of love for the old school Hammer Horror films
"Ginger People"

Motel Hell should not be on anybody's list. Jesus H...

It's on my list..(which doesnt follow the OP rules for scary or amount of films..just my list) for the same reason Tourist trap and Funhouse are on there..pure 70's camp. Hell it's not far off from TCM in it's premise..I enjoyed the hell out of it as a kid, sneaking it late at night..and moreso now.

Yes, Tourist Trap is Connors..always creeped me out as a kid. Think I saw it 4-5 years ago, and was still effective schlock..Love it

Interesting thread. Have to admit the newer films are scarier, but I really like the Universal classics, Hammer horror films, etc.

My Mom doesn't much like Halloween, but my Dad, little sister and I always dug it. Since I had to work that night,  I'm still having my Halloween. I've got (realistic) Skeletons, Frankenstein's, and Killer Pumpkins hanging all over my apartment, lurking about my stein collection, sitting in the window sill... it's cool!

Some "tough watch" movies on there, but this was a SCARIEST movie thread.

The Babadook had a decent amount of scares in it, as did the Taking of Deborah Logan. Neither would crack the list, but decent.
