I have a Dearmond M55 (les paul jr looking thing) that I've had for about 12 or 13 years. for about 10 of those years the neck has been off of it (bolt on) because it got a nasty twist in it. Before that happened I had upgraded the pickup to a dimarzio humbucker that was made to emulate a p90 (there were no hb sized p90s at the time).

anyway, I am wondering if I should buy a replacement flying V bolt on neck from guitar fetish to get it back up and running, along with new tuners and possibly a bridge, or just buy a new guitar. I have been eyeing the new TV yellow epi SG junior limited.

thoughts?

Mr. Foxen

Buy a guitar with a neck you can take off and put on the other one, see what you prefer.

My amateur opinion -- building guitars this way is a crap shoot... you're going to spend a bunch of money, and in the end, the guitar could be a dog (or just okay). It won't have any resale value.

Figure out your costs for new parts. Try to estimate what you could sell the existing parts for. If a whole new guitar is just a couple hundred dollars more than a build, buy a new guitar.

On the other hand, maybe you need a new project to tackle, and you don't reeeaally need another good guitar (if it bombs), and the costs don't matter.

But a flying V neck on a Les Paul style guitar? ???

all good points. I chose the flying V neck because I like the look of a Gibson Marauder.

This guy is supposed to do good work.  He has a special heat treating thing he does.  I have a G&L that I need to send to him.  $75 plus shipping, I'd imagine both ways.

I realize you already put the scratch down for a new neck.  Tim Sult played a LP body with the arrowhead neck for a while.  Custom shop deal that he had built for him, and he sold it on Ebay when he broke his hand.
Vinyls.   deal.

I bet you're talking about Tim's SG, which is actually displayed in the RnR Hall of Fame. I can't say for certain, but I'm almost sure it's more of a frankenstein type jobby versus a fancy Custom Shop creation.

Pissy, I haven't actually bought the neck yet. I am having our luthier at where I work take a look at it to see if it is REALLY twisted or not. (i was told it was by a small time guitar tech about 10 years ago. It has been in a closet in pieces ever since.

Body is early 70's (Norlin Era) SG, like 72, 73.
Why is it in the Hall of Fame?

Jake

It's a '71 I believe. It's in the RnR HoF because it's rocked/melted off the appropriate amount of faces to be considered for display.
