The Wire

My wife and I recently started watching this series after hearing good things for years.  Some convincing dialogue and thus far, 5 episodes in, the story has hooked me.   Hard to imagine how this is going to go for 5 seasons but I'm excited to see how crazy it gets.

i started watching the wire for the first time over thanksgiving and 65 hours later, i'd seen the whole series.

i wasted a whole fucking week, when i had two very pressing deadlines (late on both!) because i loved this show so hard.

Yes, greatest series ever.  They got everything right & the characters?  Awesome. 
What's your favorite season?  I actually like the docks a lot even though most of the major characters aren't in it.

i enjoyed the docks but my favourite was season 3. stringer bell was on his game. i love me some stringer bell.

First season is my favorite but I also liked Season 4 a lot.

Just started season 5. I have to agree with all y'all about this series. Fuckin' A. I just don't want it to end after these discs. I'm getting worried for Omar.

Favorite season was probably 2. The first couple seasons it's like the writers were toying around with the idea of each season going after one crime family. Season four lost me a bit, it seemed like they were dragging things out. But season five was a great conclusion.

just finished ep 3, season 3.  season 2 is tits.  what was the significance of Ziggy buying the duck?

It seemed at first viewing that it was just Ziggy being a nut. But then I realized the episode was called Duck and Cover. Later I heard some Wire-heads talking about when Ziggy asks why the ducks don't leave their cages when they are free to do so, the reason being that their wings are clipped.

It's supposed to be some sort of metaphor a for the different groups/people that season that find themselves in some way caged—the stevedores, the illegal immigrants, D'Angelo, the police, the corner boys that are somehow unable to "escape" their "cages".

What a great series though. Stoked you are getting into it priest and glad that the ex gave me the complete box set.
