i never have. i had a buddy that used one of the cheap studio projects pre's with a 31 band graphic eq and a power amp as a bass rig for several years. it sounded really good.

someone gave me one of those $99 fender frontman 25r combo amps....blown away by the clean tone, i use a supercoillder with....amazing home rig....looking at maybe a beheringer tube preamp.
