I am talking something such that I can sample a phrase live on my guitar and have it repeat in a controlled and reasonable manner in rhythm w/ the song. What is available these days for doing this? My singer has one of those Line 6 delay jobbies and my other guitarist has a Akai Headrush both of which I think will work for this that I will try but I'd like to see if there weren't any other options.

It depends on your budget.  Boomerang phrase sampler is pretty friggin' sweet.

I use an akai headrush v2 and it is sweet. I use it live to loop rhythm parts while I throw down leads and also for a trippy on the fly layered part in a new song. I haven't used anything else and don think I would. Real easy to use live and sounds good. You also get a decent digital tap delay and tape echo with it so. That's my $0.02 on live looping.

I just bought a TC Electronics Flashback Delay for looping. I have a Line6 DL-4 which does looping/overlays, but when it's in loop mode, you can't access any of the (many) delays. So I got the Flashback to put in front of it to be able to enjoy both. It was between the Flashback and the EHX Stereo Memory Man. To be honest, if they would have had the EHX SMM in stock I'd have went with that. But I cannot complain about the Flashback. It's got 40 seconds of loop time, which is nice because the DL-4 only has 14 secs.

The Flashback might be what I'm looking for... Price is right on it. My other guitarist uses enough delay for the both of us so I'm really only in it for the looping. I have a Carbon Copy and EHX Deluxe Memory Man if I decide I want an ordinary delay anyway.
