could our broke ass bass player use one of my rats for some bass fuzziness? it will cut a lot of the low end, no?

grimniggzy

I use one, works fine for me.

With the LM308chip, right?
If so, let him try it and see how he likes it.

justinhedrick

yes, 308 chip. i want something akin to a southern sludge type sound.

In my last band, our bass player used a rat. As I recall, it was really fizzy, but got plenty of bottom. Gibson LP bass into GK 800 into Mesa 2x15. Not really "sludgy" but I dug it.

Yeah, the way I have it set is kinda clean & tight but if you turn up the distortion you can get there

I set the filter pretty high (to cut some fizzyness & save some low end)
dime the volume
& set distortion to taste.

with that formula he should get somewhere close to what you want.

I put a Mole ahead of my disto and all of the low end came back.  It's pretty awesome.

grimniggzy

Hmm, I have a mole sitting around, I'll have to try that.

I've used my big box Rat a few times and the distortion sounds good, but I didn't like what it did to the low end just playing with the pedal settings. It could probably work well with some eq tweaks on the amp side or maybe a clean blend. Plenty of bassists with good distorted tone have used it.

grimniggzy

Yeah, I have a Big Box one too.
IMO my RAT II smokes it.
But from what I gather, this is uncommon.

My bass player uses my Keeley modified Rat and it sounds really cool...I just wish I had two.
