I'm going to retube a late 70's SVT I picked up recently. I was curious if you guys had any sort of preference for tubes in this amp. Brand, type and such.

i jump around with preamp tubes

for power tubes i really dig sed's winged c's, heres a link http://thetubestore.com/6550c.html

used svetlana winged c's for years, then they were bought out my new sensor(if i remember correctly), sed is the way to go:)

i've heard good things about tung sol's also, never heard or tried them though

I have Svetlanas in mine.  They're fairly cheap ($29 ea).  I've never had problems and get compliments on my tone all the time.  I've never had to change my preamp tubes... Still have the Magnavox tubes in there from the 1970s!

Hey thanks for the advice. I wound up going with Svetlana 6550s and JJs. I got the retube set from Tubestore.com. The price was right. Tech replaced a cap in the preamp and retubed and biased it up. It's definitely a little more lively now. Sounds great. Funny thing Zachoff, my tech gave me all the old tubes back and said the same thing about mine. The preamp tubes were the original Magnavox tubes.

Have Svet winged C 6550's in my mid-70's SVT and it sounds great.
