I was thinking how I miss my old fretless Fender Jazz and then it got me thinking...what if I used smaller strings and tuned it up more like a cello and used it for bowed stuff. Anyone ever try this or at least heard of someone else doing it? It has me considering picking up a cheap fretless to try it out.

I have a Fretless Jazz that I love very much. Never bowed it though.
I feel like I'd have to play in Fieldy stance to get the feel right.

Looks terribly uncomfortable but if I had a bow I would try it out.

cop shoot cop used to have 'high end bass' and 'low end bass"..not sure what they meant by that but thats how it was listed on their early albums.

I saw a guy (Vaz) take a gibson sg bass, and add four tuners with higher strings to make it kind of like an 8 string bass. It had high end like a guitar. it was really cool sounding

Tune it in 5ths like a cello. You get nearly the range of a 5 string that way.

There's some band... I forget the name... Skaven is the name, they have two bassists, and one plays a piccolo, it's rad.
