Just wondering what y'all use.
I have a DIY EA tremolo circuit I built which sounds amazing (modeled after old Fender trem circuit).
By accident I discovered that if I max the trem so it stops tremoloing, I can use the volume on the pedal as a lead boost.
Didn't color the tone in any way, just made your signal up to 4x's LOUDER. Great for solos in the times I'm playing opposite another guitar player.
So I tricked out the pedal to make it switchable between trem and lead boost.
But having to fuck with a pedal between songs is a pain in the ass. So contemplating building a new EA tremolo but making it only as a boost.
But curious as to what y'all use.
I play an 81 JCM800 loud n clean, dirt pedal for distortion. Loud heavy early 70s rock tone.

I can't remember why this is but my byoc tremolo does the same thing. Works great for a boost. I almost like my better for that than the tremolo function. Somebody here can explain it I'm sure. I also like my 70's MXR Microamp for a boost.
I use my volume knob
Im usually the only guitarist. but I used to use this pedal which has two channels
the other guitarist in that band used an EH LPB and he sounded good.

the guitars in this band were not super distorted, more like a stonesy grit.
Wonder if the byoc trem is the same circuit.
Works amazingly well. For financial reasons I may just check my parts bin and build another...

Pretty sure the Byoc is the EA circuit. Make yourself an EP Booster clone.
^^^ Looking that up right now
I used to suggest the Super Hard On but this lad kills it.

yes it is.
I built an SHO. it's legit.
I used to use an EQ pedal as a boost for leads but these days my tone is bright enough that I don't need it.
I made a hybrid Rangemaster/LPB type boos pedal and I really dig it.

The EP Booster that I mentioned in the previous post.
I designed the Kraken and the Barnacle to be +3db over unity with the volume at noon and +6db maxed out. For most people +6db over unity is the perfect amount of boost for in front of an amp. The MKI Kraken could do +20db over unity, it was just too much.

http://www.xotic.us/effects/ep_booster/ Easy to build your own if you're that way inclined.

I think what chovie asking is baxically what is "EP"? I think it mimics the Echo Plex pre amp.

Sure that's explained in the link too. :)
I flick the pickup on my Les Paul from the neck position to the bridge, and stomp on a Maxon OD9, which of course is just a tube screamer. Doesn't give me much in terms of a volume boost, but it makes the tone cutting enough that I don't need to be louder.
I use a pedal for dirt and use my neck pickup with the volume control rolled back to "cheat" a clean tone w/o having to step on a pedal

Fulltone Fat Boost 1-The George...Jack Orman circuit that Mike Fuller got sued for. Still pretty cheap on eBay and works as a slightly dirty boost if you crank the gain. Makes other pedals sound killer too.

No Danny, I believe that the Catalinbread Super Chili Picasso is a clone of it as well:
