Title: Behringer 8x10 cabs- Any Users?
Post by: hayseed on February 08, 2011, 06:50:51 PM
Does anybody have any experience with the Behringer 8x10 cabs? I got offered one in a trade for a couple of cabs that i have and thought i should turn to you guys for a little gear advice before i turn it down . I know that a lot of their stuff is junk, but i stand by Behringer's bass heads(especially the B4500H, personal experience) for durability .

I would be hesitant to gig with anything Behringer.  All I have from them is a PA.  It generally works but there are enough random problems with it that I'd love something else if the money lined up.

I agree on the hesitation! Like i said i don't own it or plan to own it...I  kinda wondered if maybe this could be a diamond in rough so to speak. I never had one single problem with my bass head and i had it(and used it at least weekly) for about 5 years. Now i had a guitar head and cab years ago and i was better suited as fertilizer as it was absolute shit.

You might have better luck selling your gear and using the money to buy exactly what you want, instead of trying to work out trades. You can find nice bass cabs on Craigs List for cheap, if you are patient.

I know it! I picked up a Sunn Coli 300 AND a Sunn 215 cab this weekend...and i didn't spend a dime.
This question about the Behringer 8x10's is more of a general question about the build quality on that one. It was be nice for folks to know that MAYBE there is a cheap 8x10 cab that is not an Ampeg that can be had. I think that Behringer generally has that "hot girl with herpes" vibe...ok to look at but not good to have. To quote myself again-"i said i don't own it or plan to own it".

There was one of those ultrabass models with a 8x10 at a rehersal space we had earlier. I wasn't impressed, very muddy and we couldn't get a decent tone from it. Speakers play a huge role so it might be remedied with better speakers, but that will be costly. I also imagine those cabs would be hard to sell (even with better speakers).

If you want cheap and reliable and good I've always been a big fan of old Peaveys.  I got a Peavey 1516 for $100 and it sounds fantastic.

I asked our bass player about these cabs last night. he had a 4x10, 2x10 and a 1x15 behringer at one point. he said that there was always a muddiness that he could never dial out and the projection of the cabs were always lacking. he also noted that he blew up every one of them after about 3 years of use. he owns a peavey 4x10 and 1x18 now and said it sounds infinently better (same head).

That really sucks that companies put out gear like this that tarnishes their name. But for entry level playing or playing on a budget i guess it works long enough. I know my 4x12 guitar cab was THE worst speaker cab i ever owned, as was the head. I had hoped that possibly the bass cabs were a sturdy(and sound as good) as that bass head i had for so long. That does not seem to be the case.
