Title: Good source for good cheap speakers?
Post by: spookstrickland on January 30, 2011, 11:33:04 PM
I need 1 12" and 1 10" for the Sunn cab I picked up.  Its going to be used for live work so I don't need anything too special just easy on the wallet.

possibly Avatar by calling them for a blem or that auction site where they also sell at low starting bids. Weber as well. Warehouse guitar speakers are excellent but probably $higher that your stated criteria but mentioning them for future.

Warehouse guitar speakers used to be cheaper before they got more popular. I don't own any but i've heard lots of good things especially about their greenback clone.

Weber always has their line of cheaper speakers.

Unless you're looking at Celestion Blues there usually isn't a huge price difference between good speakers and crappy ones. Speakers have a huge impact on tone...it's not a corner I would cut. Fortunately you don't always have to buy the most expensive to get the best tone.

If you want dirt cheap http://rssound.com (http://rssound.com) I've got a bass cab I believe is loaded with their drivers. The 'hi-fi' ones look to be butyl surround if that makes any odds, I tend to prefer accordian edged cloth or paper, but $12 for a driver what the heck, the 10"s of mine lasted 'til I blew acouple on tour by using way too much power :D

12 bucks a speaker sounds like my price range.  Do you remember what model you used of theirs?

thanks

Twelve bucks a speaker is unreal. I wonder if they're any good... I may experiment, see how long it'll take me to blow 'em up.

" VC  38-3000 Hz  96db 1W/1M  600 Watts RMS  1200 Watts  Max.
120 oz Magnet / 8 ohm Edgewound Voice Coil /Vented Pole Piece.

Jesus fuck, 600 watts? 2400 watt guitar cab? Sounds like it'd be WAY underpowered.

can't see the ones I had, they were 8 ohm 10" 200W like the hi-fi, the difference was they are paper surround. I didn't load the cab myself, I bought it off a guy. Same specs otherwise.

Those ten's blow. I put some in my Sunn 610l. They're tinny, and small, unless i wired it out of phase... Which it isn't.

I havent' found the G10's to be tinny, but then again I like my tone kinda bright 'cause I run only fuzz pedals.

They sound fine, clean. Balls dirty. I wonder if they still arent broken in... played several hours through them.
