Title: amp cover
Post by: liquidsmoke on March 16, 2012, 03:37:58 AM
Anyone have one? Buy it? Make it yourself? Use a trashbag? Bareback it in the rain? :o

I found a couple of websites

1/2" foam w/ 900d. DWR?  Yes please.  Emperor uses 'em, too.  /cool points.

I sometimes buy a cheap tarp, lay it over top of the amp or cab, trim it out and use duct tape on the seams.

Work well for light exposure to moisture and storage. Here's one I made for my Ampeg V2 cab.

I had these guys make one for a speaker cabinet. Nothing fancy but gets the job done.

My OR120 came with a Silverstone one from that ampcovers.co.uk.  Its really thick and padded, and has a pocket on the side, which is handy if you have a vintage amp, and don't have a removeable power cord.

I made one for my model T, out of vinyl, from the fabric store.  It sewed up easy enough on my wifes sewing machine. ;)  I just sewed and extra square of vinyl around the handle area. Its more of a dust cover/ keep the rain off during loading, more than protection really.

Edit: Oh yea, I made one before out of cardboard, and covered the entire thing in duct tape.  I find out  that it worked once, when someone dropped a beer onto my amp, and the amp didn't get a drop on it.

Main lady is an upholsterer an constantly intend to have her make a cover for my cab. Probably end up looking more furniture or fake leather than commercial offerings, would other people be interested in that shiz? Might try an set her up with some business. In the UK though.

I don't move my amp very often.  So depending on the weather, it's either bareback or trashbag.

I just ordered some orange covers for my cabs. Warwick Rockcase also make some reasonably priced covers for amps and cabs.

I have a really old one that goes over my really old Marshall and my neighbors are upholsterers so I had her make one that fits completely over a 1/2 stack.  it was made from leftover boat seat material, so it's blue with a re webbing handle on top.  Not very austere ;D but it works beautifully.

Loud amps need loud covers.   :)

Looks like they don't make them for Laney heads.

I wish flight cases weren't half the cost of my amp.

I think I might just make something out of a tarp or cardboard.

I would seriously just go to an upholstery shop with dimensions slightly bigger than your head and have them whip one up.  Or if you look up cut and sew shops or people who do alterations they will do it probably for their min charge.

Never looked through the manufacturer list.  I just figured they did custom jobs galore.  :(

Yeah, I wasn't too impressed when those came out. I occasionally find some paw prints from the cat but it's not enough to make me want to cover it up.

I had a cover made for my toolbox at work after the sprinkler system went off. Heavy canvas and custom fit. It wasn't too much more than 100, and that was with a special addition for a vise. Maybe 6' x 4' x 4'. They do padded as well. The place is called comsew. Google it.

for local gigs I use a cover for my head. It rains here quite a bit and the leatherette cover provides some protection in my car, tho admittedly not much. ON the road I made myself  a roadcase out of cardboard and denim. it worked great, was lkight weight and free.

Theres a ton of littel gcottage industry style amp cover makers. some of em quite fancy and cool lookin. The padded ones seem nice.

A few of my older  fender amps have the original covers with em.

I approve of Jakes ghetto cover. Thats more my style..free is my style.

I'd like a cottage amp case for cheap. Anybody? Suppose I could make one, might be worth losing a finger or two on my recently acquired hand me down circular table saw that I so far suck at using.
