Post by: core9 on February 27, 2012, 10:44:33 PM
The guy that normally does my dupes is out of business.   >:(

Anybody wanna toss me some names of companies that can do quality short runs?
Only looking to do 100 right now.

Any help would be great.....

Tx folks!

CDs or CDRs? 100 CDs is pricey.

For real CDs, I heard Mobineko is good. They are located overseas, but shipping is free and fast (so who cares). They will do small runs.

For CDRs, I used Discmakers (they will do short runs). They were okay, not awesome. 100 CDRs plus rush shipping was 280 dollars. Some of the covers had problems (5 or so had a white dot) and one CD was unplayable. They did seem to be the cheapest for short run CDRs , so if you can beat their prices let me know.

Mobineko did the Caricatures CD think there was a bit of delay but no big deal.

Personal recommendation is : http://www.hificopies.com/

Prices there are a guideline:
QuoteWhere possible, we prefer to quote on each individual job, and we can advise on the most cost effective way to produce the right result for your band or business.

Do that, and say I sent ya.

Good to know.

I've gotten quotes thru DiscMakers and one of my band did an album with them with great results.

Also looking into short runs, have an album to officially re-release and another album and EP I'd like to release.

A bunch of us unsigned dorks around here used someplace in Vancouver CN, a little under two bucks a unit for "real" CD's, 100 ct. is fine, shrinked/jewel cases, two-panel inserts. Here's where I suck: I dunno their name, maybe Google CD replicators Vancouver and cross-reference search results ? They always did a good job (one o' my bands got like three blank discs out of 100)

Maybe one of my bandmates will chime in w/ the name..

Holy fuck, those are great prices. This is a great time to make a CD -- since they are a dying format, prices are dropping like a stone.

I've been thinking of using these guys. I like the DIY kits with the sleeves and rubber stamps. But, I'm all indie dweeb like that.

Sunrise or something like that? I used to use that company for making CD-Roms back in the day when those were popular. Really good results for decent looking printed disks.

Googled and I can't find any sign of them. Could be they closed down.

They may indeed have given up the ghost, it's tough to imagine anyone replicating discs in 2012 actually, at least on a large(r) scale...

Looks like 1 dollar per CD, see the link for AMSRabbit from rayinreverse. I paid 2+ dollars a year ago. You can sell your album for 5 dollars and still come out ahead (<----- poor business skills though, dont listen to me)

I guess if you're not actually in a band (and want something to sell/give away at shows) most people don't want boxes full of product taking up expensive warehouse space (or closet space) any more (need to confirm with MJS)

This is like a wet dream come true! I can't believe prices are this low now. The days of "we have to do 1,000 CDs to make it cheap enough per copy or just do CDRs" are over. The downside is yeah, demand is way way down. But still!

I just did a run with AMS Rabbit of 150 CDs in jewelcases and 100 digipacks.

They were affordable and arrived on time. However there are no barcodes on the back (as was reflected in the invoice as well as the price) and the quality of them is a bit poor.

Still waiting to hear back.

Will do.

As for the lower quality, well you (I) get what you (I) pay for.

Barcodes are an upgrade, I guess you know that... Did you order barcodes and they fucked up your order? You might be able to accomplish it with a sticker. :(

What is poor quality about your dubs? The printing/cardboard/image on disc/sound quality/some discs dont play...?

Barcodes were ordered, listed on the invoice when order was placed, and listed on invoice when charged and sent.

CDs sound fine so far, but the jewelcases and digipacks are kinda flimsy.

Sorry about that, I interpreted it the other way in your other post, hence my question.

Maybe they can print up some barcode stickers for free. Seen people do barcode w/stickers before (You can blame it on your graphic artist "he insisted that we can't violate his artwork with a bar code").

I probably wouldn't care too much about barcodes on a small run like that. I've been seeing flimsy jewel cases a lot more over the last few years. The main thing is that the CDs themselves feel, look, and sound quality.

those prices look really good, especially with free shipping worldwide thrown in - shipping seems to be what kills the deal whenever i look at getting anything done OS.  the prices we pay here in aus for CDs/t-shirts/merch are just enormous compared to what it seems everyone else pays.  thanks for the link.

I have been using Implant, and they are pretty good, not that that is really much use to anyone who isn't in Melbourne.
