Now I'd like to source some coily cable for connecting my guitar to my board/board to amp. Any of you guys know of a place that would carry this? Extra points if you know of somewhere where I can buy different colors.
Weird, I was gonna ask this too, sort of. We used to wind cables round a wooden dowel, and leave them in a low heat for half an hour to coil them, but I don't know if that works nowadays, was what I was gonna ask. ???
I don't think you can buy it, except made in cables, because you need a straight bit on each end to solder jacks to, well you don't need it, but it's the normal way.
Yeah, that's the one thing I thought of before I began my search. I feel bad using $10 radio shack coily's now that I've re-done my whole board with mogami's w/ pancake jacks. But I'm not ready to give up the mojo of the coily's.

Yeah, the seem great, but :o at their prices. They don't seem to sell the coiled stuff in bulk either. Obviously because they want to charge you $75 for their Retro Coil jawn.
What is cool about a coily cable?
I can throw them in my pedaltrain box and not have to worry about them getting tangled up.

I asked a cable making guy if he'd do decent coilys, but he said he has to order the cable 100 lengths at a time, the straight end means can't just buy a roll.
Warwick Rock Cables are the cheapest coily cables I found but that's with the jacks and I've no idea of the quality.

Normal power flex works fine, stuff that goes from the wall plug to electrical equipment. If you use the orange stuff it shows up better so you don't mix cables.
That page took ages to load and doesn't make much sense, it says 2 conductor but says "These unique professional speaker cables are originally designed to deliver maximum performance from state-of-the-art Tri-Amp Systems. " Tri-amp?
Plus looks like have to order 100 feet at a time. Probably alright to use but probably needlessly overpriced. 4mm² is enough for high power applications, it will be rated higher than the jack plugs that will likely be on it. 2.5mm² is enough for guitar amps. You just need flexible two core cable, most other stuff will be marketing BS for speaker cable.

I was looking at Mogami stuff b/c that's what I used for my patch cables and it's supposed to be good quality.

Also, you can order the stuff by the foot, it's just a little more expensive that way.
That shit is pretty expensive though, I don't think spending $28 for 10 ft + jacks is really cost effective. Might as well order the cables for that much.
No need to spend significant money on cables for guitar amps, Stuff that carries power from the wall to anything with significant draw is enough. The important bit is the connector and the soldering job in there, it is where it will break, and broken can fuck you amp. I use specifically for speakers cable to make them just cause I have loads I scavenged, but if I didn't I'd use the cloth covered wire off old electric heaters because it looks cool, or orange flex from gardening equipment. The pro cable guy I know uses Klotz cable.
Dunno if I have anything I can scavenge around the house.
I think I'm gonna say the hell with it buy 2 of these and call it a day. They'll cost me less and I don't have to put them together. Def a no brainer.
