We used to do this over in Harmony Central and it was fun. Send out an mp3 of the drum track and we all record guitar and/or bass and/or vocals over it & see what everyone comes up with. If it's been done w/ not many people doing it then cool. I haven't been around a super long time.
Dig it. I'm in. Would give me a reason to get some recording shit going..I can't do drums however..I'm a taker..
Paging Harm, Paging Harm!
(Gabe, did you ever get your Zoom H4n?)
I'm about to buy an H4n...
No, just before I got it a friend of mine gave me a Roland Edirol R-09HR. :)
How long should the drumtrack be? :)
record, keep it kind of structured, I know it's hard to drum without riffage, but try not to do wonky amounts of anything... Stick to 4's, 6's, 8's etc in terms of repeats on beats before changes. Style doesn't really matter, long as something usable to fiddle with shows up. I'll adapt to most anything.
Should we decide on a set tuning? Eb? C? D, or should we just all go with whatever? Different strokez.
I say keep it to about 2 minutes or so, just so it doesn't get out of hand in terms of taking weeks to write it. Jam over it for a bit, then record! Too much thinking = too much bullshit.
Also, Zach, what are the drum size requirements? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

;) ;) GET ON IT, SOMEONE.
I'll even accept one drum track, and ALL of us will write a song based off of it.
If I can get my shit together I'll try and record a drum track through my H4. I'll try and keep it simple.

It's pretty fun what people come up with when they figure out a song you wrote in an open tuning and they are tuned to standard.

I've got 5 minutes of air raid siren that will go great with this.
I used to have a recorded earthquake. If anyone has some earthquake, I'd love to have it again.
So this turned into a dubstep exercise?
I guess I was dubstep before there was dubstep ???
Seriously though, you should be able to make a decent track to anything, you could look on it as a challenge. I've been jamming to the Tabla loops app on the iPad and coming up with some nice dubby lines.
Also worth noting, there are those files of isolated Bonham outtakes online. Could always jam over one of those...or do some creative editing with a few.

Which reminds me that most drummers don't know how to tune drums.
A well tuned set sounds well tuned.

Suck on this!
Real trashy mono drums:
[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/crossar/stonerrockmaster[/soundcloud]
I goofed up the ending and the beat gets wonky at times, sorry if I'm not taking this seriously enough. Annoying snare sound but should cut through the mix!
I'll make these drums sound pretty rad... :D
I'm imagining them in a cave of overdrive and wails.
[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/enslavedinrot/jamroomjam[/soundcloud]
hehehe
YES!
now someone add the wails.
Record them over the track, then send me the cut, I'll mix it in properly... :D
I'll start doing that with every aspect of my life.
;D
Added another layer to blackkrosses X SunnO))).
[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/fallenshallrise/jamroomjam[/soundcloud]
I laid in the cut an octave down for a lot of it and we must both be playing pharaohs because it blends pretty good most of the time.
Pharaoh and a tele on the neck pickup! :D
An all single coil, all Fender, all Pharaoh track.
I used a Strat into with a Pharaoh except the melody parts were Experience octave fuzz into the Pharaoh on the neck pickup.
Fender bass?
Westone Thunder 1A :(
Damn!
Rad! Busy last night but hopefully can get to these tonight or Saturday. Not Friday though... Going to see Mudhoney & The Fluid!

heh, that's a mean sounding project y'all have cooking.
i tried to do something with harm's drums but i still dont feel it. however harm posted an awesome bass+drum thing a while back, which i did a record-n-go to after getting really baked. i tried some different modes, and some worked better than others. except for a little timing fuckup trying to duplicate the first part over, it gets rolling.
i also got faked out thinking it ended and i put a little ending thing in way before the real end, then it kicks it, so that came out cool for random. editing in some silence to bring that out more may be the trick but it adds to the deal.
it is truly just a jam, but maybe harm can repost that killer track clean for someone else.
BTW, this is 6 minutes, maybe start at like 3min mark. you'll get the idea
[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/doktordeath/harmsjamwithdoktordeathinfluen[/soundcloud]
This is turning out to be one of the cooler things I've participated in on the internet.
Vocals would send it over the top.
HINT.
Makes me wish I had put more mics on the drums.
Record some more... I have a feeling it will be a while until someone puts vocals on that track. (If ever.)
groovy
If I can find the time Saturday I'll give vox a try. That's a big if though.
Something simple I threw down tonight...
[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/zachoff/jam[/soundcloud]
What the hell... Won't play for me.
I got the bass line last night. Here's my addition. Added a count in, full left is guitar (Explorer into Muskett) and full right is zachoff's bass track.
I restrained myself from doing any leads but added a key change part so the next guitar can lay into a solo at that point.
Some drums next and this will start to sound killer though.
[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/fallenshallrise/jamroomjam-zachoff-x-fallen[/soundcloud]
Sounds awesome! I cannot wait to have a chance to contribute to this.
if you want to help the vocals out, think about the vocal phrasing when you assemble these.
for example, in fallen's project, there are 4 rounds of the first phrase. what is the intended vocal phrasing? if it is 4 rounds, then you would have to start the vocals at the very start of the song. many sabbath songs have a couple rounds of the phrase as an intro to the vocals, so their song maybe would have had 6 rounds of the first phrase, 2 of which would have been no vocal intro phrases.
the key change thing is cool. there could be 2 phrases of bridge vocals in there and then return to the original verse phrase or chorus phrase. anyway, random strings of phrasing does indeed make vocal construction rough.
if you want good vocals you need to keep them in mind as you build the phrasing. or someone provide some notes regarding the intended positioning etc of the vocal phrasing when you build one of these things
well here is some words for someone to use if they want:
using a sabbath satire this is called "Dunk Man"
verse
I got air jordans and a bahama tan
Any chick will tell you she's my biggest fan
Go on try and catch me if you can
'cause you just been dunked on by the dunk man
verse
I'll beat up your brother and thrash your whole clan
I'll turf your front lawn with my mini-van
I'll punt your fuckin' ass back to pakistan
you'll wake up all dunked on by the dunk man
bridge verses
I dont get drunk
I dont get high
i took a brick to the face
and fucked up my eye
Dont look puzzled
dont ask why
just watch me ball
and you'll see me fly
chorus-outro w/e
dunk maaaaan
dunk maaaaaan
ain' no punk maaaaan
dunk maaan
dunk maaaan
ain' no drunk man
dunk maaan
w/e fit to music...
well, maybe they should take the dope away ...heh I get baked and random shit starts happening.
so here is the evil weird al to supernaut, for more lyrics for a project.
we'll call the song "Superstud" 8D
I want to reach out, and touch her thigh
I want to touch her bum, she knows exactly why
I 'm gonna climb up, the meatflaps of her poon
To find the g-spot, and send her to the moon
I've got the motion, banged everything
I pound the pussy to an orgasmic end
I've been with old ho's and defiled virginity
I've done a thousand babes, and it never bothered me
Got no protection, dont need no 'ludes
get way more twat, than all the other dudes
Dont try to tease me
cause i'd tear up your behind
I've seen your future
now spread 'em if you don't mind.
Ok, I have a vocal line and some working lyrics for the blackkrosses X SunnO))) Fallen tune.
Unfortunately I've been having to fight Cubase to get anything recorded.
I haven't used the software in years and this is the first time I've ran it on this computer. I'm gonna grab some lunch and give it another go afterwards. Wish me luck.
Good luck man.
If it doesn't work out maybe someone can recommend some different software.
Ok this as good as I have time to get this. I squandered too much time trying to make the software work. Today is the only chance I'm gonna get before going to San Diego. Gotta pack and take care of more pertinent shit.
[soundcloud]http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/32729856[/soundcloud]
lyrics:
It was a ball of resin
It was the buzzing flies
It was a slice of heaven
The sun was in my eyes
I was a little bitty baby
With a forty ounce
Well she said she could save me
So I had to get out
Take these tired eyes
And pop them in your mouth
If I have to tell you once again
I'll take this whole thing down
Fall into that same old trap again
I'm so done I can't go back again
Take my eyes I just don't wanna see
What this big world has in store for me
Bitchin'!!
I'm off work tomorrow, I'll try and throw drums on the other tune that's brewing.

Here's drums under fallen's contribution to zachoff's bass line, nothing fancy.

Thank you guys for the kind words on the vocal tracks. It really was a thrill to do. I haven't done anything of the sort since Damnweevil was put to bed. I've been mostly singing soul and blues.
A while back I had posted this track in the jam room band thread, I'd be stoked if some one could do some drums, bass or you name it to help complete it. I'd done a version with some solos towards the end before, but in the interest of collaboration I'd love to see what others could do with it.
Please take a stab at it what ever instrument you play.
hint: intro is in 3s and then kicks into 4s.

Good stuff so far :).
Ok. Something a little different. I tried to do a structured beat thing but I couldn't et my headphone click track loud enough to keep time so i did a freestyle tribal thing. I hope it's on time enough for somebody to do something with. I apologize for the 20 sec of nothing in the beginning. I'm and editing retard. Be glad I actually got it here. Recorded dry with my H4 in the room
Sorry. I'm a guitar player.

It's good. I'm playing hard to it right now... Not like boner hard, but hitting my bass strings hard. Nothing I love is being heard but it definitely has potential to destroy.
Here's an addition to the neighbor664 X zachoff track.
I added a couple of things but mainly just had fun learning the riffs so if the next person doesn't use it that's cool.
Also was having a hard time getting the bass right in the mix. On my stereo it sounded good but on my laptop it's sounding a little low.
The bass track is posted on it's own so the next person can add that in or I can remix if anyone needs it.
[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/fallenshallrise/jamroomjam-neighbor664-x[/soundcloud]
Got a little warm up riff here I made to see if my recording software was still working. It's nothing special and I probably should've tightened up the "lead" part somewhat. And by tightened, I mean stick to rhythm work. Was expecting more mistakes with the 2 tracks overlapping but its not horrible seeing is this is my 1st attempt at recording since '09. Fairly short but might be nice to hear some drums or vocals.

Man, you guys are eons better than I am! Fuck, I think I need to go back to the three-hour-a-day-practicing I did when I was 19...

I'm still moist from your contribution with Blackkrosses, fallen and neighbor664.
Where are the individual tracks? I'm currently ampless but can do some (re)mixing.
For me, Audacity combined my tracks when I exported them as a WAV file. Glad I panned both a little to hide some sloppy mistakes. I need more time with this software.
As far as free stuff goes, I've had better luck with Reaper than Audacity. Although Reaper isn't technically "free"... Right.
I was surprised I still had it on my computer. When I tried to export as an mp3 it reminded me I didn't have the add-on to make that possible. I was like, "not this shit again".
The lamenc.dll, right? You can d/l that from anywhere, really. Just scan it for viruses.
yep that's it.
