Title: Another lame band drama topic...
Post by: Wesogkan on June 06, 2011, 11:12:28 PM
Ahhh...yes, had a band mate hang up on me today because I wanted to take the night off from practice (heavy work load/early morning/today is my day off, etc.) he's pissed because he's going on a road trip for 2 weeks, thus no practice during that time. Just got online and found out he flamed me on facebook about it, not too thrilled right now. Apparently my dedication is publicly in question over a missed practice. I just sank $250 into my drumkit, WTF?

Sounds like this dude is a little uptight.  Shit happens sometimes people can't make it.  Its part of being an adult.

. . . isn't that what EVERY band plans on doing? my total point was if he is that convinced that missing 1 practice is a big deal, imagine what would happen if you had to cancel a show? (stuff does happen)

if you gave notice it shouldnt matter..if you called out on the day of or right before [with in a few hours of the start of said practice]..i can see being upset. especially if its not an emergency. if you blew it off to run some errands and didnt give me enough notice to change my plans or come up with new ones, id be pissed.

i would not flame it on fb. it would be one on one, hash it out, then forgotten. nothing to break up a band over.

i believe a band commitment should be very serious, even if it is for fun.

You practice 3x a week? And he's pissed?
Sounds like a fuck ass to me.
My band is lucky to get once a week.

We're lucky to get 2 a month in anymore, right now it's 50/50 we'll get one in this week too.

At this point is is just for fun there are no aspirations to even attempt to do a 4 song set at the bottom of a bill anymore. We can't even get that much shit together.

But it's loud we get trashed and its always a good time when it does happen.

yes, and yes.

if one of my dudes cancelled rehearsal at the last minute just because "they're tired" i'd be pissed off.

if you reckon you're overdoing it - and at 3 times a week you probably have a case - there's a better way to handle it.

2x a week and every other sunday...so 2-3x yep...2x week for 'my' band if we're lucky, I wish it was more...and I'm trying to start a 3rd band where I play bass. Our bassist just went to Maryland Deathfest and was gone for a week, and the other guitarist hasn't been there or had his gear there for at least a week. I'm getting more irritated the more I think about it. Is it just easier for guys to bitch out the girl in the band or is this a 'when in doubt, yell and throw stuff at the drummer' situation?

No one got back to me about practice last night so I'm guessing the appropriate response is to flip out on everyone and flame them on facebook :) Ahhh, the hypocrisy.

Nope, not a case of running errands, I was still recovering from the past 2 days of work and had a migraine coming on...and had to get up early to work again the next morning. Trust me, when possible I'll pump myself full of enough drugs to make it through band practice when I feel like crap, but I was hurting and tired. And mofo got plenty of notice.

I'm pre-Alzheimer's or my memory is full, cause all I can retain is sleaze/porn/gear...

Personal characteristics? Not so much.

My last band practiced 4-6 times a week (occasionally 7), usually for 3-6 hours. I now know the amount of hatred one can store in one's soul is limitless.

It's important to rest. The creative process can be emotionally taxing to say the least. I have to say, though, as much as we hated each other, we never got into bullshit internet flame wars over not showing up to practice. That's baby shit.

Every band should be able to perform or practice in "missing man formation." No mater what roll that person plays. If you can't you'd better work on it. If you need to practice together, with each other all in the same room, more than once a week.....guess what?..............you suck!
Have the fucking discipline to practice on your own, learn from recordings and grow a pair because it takes more than being each others face 12+ a month to do it right.

edit: I'm  referring to your band mate when I say "you"

Eh, this is a side project and already has all it's members...I don't have to deal with this shit in 'my' band.

Thanks for the advice guys, it's good to know my band bullshit detector is properly calibrated.

@Wesogkan...where you in Seabeast?
This is Ron from Sufferghost. I'm doing Curse the Son now.
Good luck finding some people to jam with.  It took me forever to find a drummer, now I'm on my 3rd.
Just gotta keep rollin with the punches, you'll find some folks.

Strike 2 for my 2nd band...Rent is now 23 days overdue on the space (just theirs), other bands in the space we share with are pissed, landlord is pissed. Guitarist has been out of town for 2 weeks, haven't practiced once since he's left. Have messaged/called both other members about jamming, twice this week...no response from the bassist at all, 2nd guitarist said he'd show, then didn't, apparently called the bassist to cancel and was supposed to drop rent off the next day...nothing. Finally a response from the absent guitarist yesterday bitching to me about letting the rent situation get serious, telling me I should've called his girlfriend to get his rent. (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

Do I have a sign on me that says "Mom and landlord"? WTF?

About to kick them out of the space and start a new project on drums. During the 2 weeks they've been inactive, I've started a new band where I play bass and we've written 5 riffs in 2 days, might have a song already...and I'm the pothead. Goddamn lazy unreliable flakes.

Don't despair we just got lucky and picked up a guitarist who has the practice space in his house (resulting in my permanent move back to bass) So we've gone from 3 drunk guys (and whoever showed up and wanted to play or attempt to play bass) in a garage to a semi competent 4 piece after only 2 practices.

So it can turn around when you least expect it.  And I had totally given up big time.

This is bullshit. I'd be looking to get the fuck out or get him out. I would assume that he's used to having a lot of drama with people. Hanging up on people, Facebook flaming, tire slashing and fist fighting are regular occurances for some people. I call them crazy and try to stay away from them.
