I'm getting my 9 string (24.75 scale) set up soon and have been using 10-52s and tune to drop d. the reason i use the bigger low strings is because it had some intonation/buzzing issues with thinner strings, and someone suggested upping the gauge but they feel MASSIVE compared to my 10-42 sets in my strat and tele.
what strings do any of you use?
Short scales - 11's. Otherwise not picky except I like a wound 3rd.
I am in B-standard. I use the bottom six from a heavy gauge seven string set. 14-58. I think I am using 12-52 for standard but the only guitar I really play in standard is my hollow body. My brand is Webstrings. They are cheap.
12-60 in E Flat, 13-60 B Standard.

Yeah, I actually cramped my finger trying to bend the unwound 3rd once. Also I find it's chunkier when I'm playing power chords on the 4th and 3rd strings.
Most of my guitarsare in B standard and I use D'Addario 14-68's (all Gibson's). My semi-hollow es137 is in standard and I use Pyramid 11-50's...great, great strings.

I'm the opposite. I love that "thick as a bailing wire" unwound 3rd on a heavy set of strings. That thing can hurt you for sure. Lately I'm running ernie ball 11's in all my guitars, which are tuned to D or E standard. Sometimes I tune one to Eb to play along with Lemmy.

i'm tuned to c and use ghs rollerwounds 11-52's, i really like the tension of these, they allow alot of wild ass vibrato and bends, gets more of my style in to the mix
use to use a set of ghs 13-56's many years back in the day, tuned to c, i was also using a solid state amp, for cleans it rocked hard, with high gain it was great for staccato type riffing, but i moved on to more fluid stuff
i used 9-42s on the ones with a fender scale length, and 10-46 on the ones with a gibson scale length
standard tuning
.130's because .125 is too damn floppy, and I'd need to drill out my bridge for a .135, so I do the spacer trick on my B string for extra length to tighten it up.
whatever is the cheapest nickel strings, nothing too bright, and leave 'em on as long as possible. wherever I can, I leave original strings on a new instrument.
D'Addario XL, 10-42s. E standard. Lame right?
A#, D'Addario Baritone Light 13-62.
Heavy bottoms Skinny Top. 10-52. More of a rock n roll guy.
11-49, drop C.
D'Addario Jazz Medium Gauges (.13-.56) drop b tuning on my les paul. just got my custom agile 3100 with p90's so ill probably slap on the same strings
My quest for the ideal set of bass strings continues to this day, but I've had good results with D'addario Chromes and Ernie Ball flats. They sound similar enough that I can use them interchangeably, and since flats take a long time to go completely dead I can mix and match as I pick up new sets.
For standard E I like 100-80-60-40.
Standard D is a bit trickier, but 110-90-70-50-32 (that's a high A#) has been working well for me lately. I may change the 70 and 50 for a 65 and 45 though.
I used to tune to standard C with HUGENELK, and while we don't use that tuning anymore I still like it. I haven't found a low C/B that really works for me, but the GHS 126 came pretty close, so my full C set was 126-95-75-60-40.
Normally 10s bit if I go lower than D I'll swap 'em out with 11s.
Maybe you should try grondwound / halfwound strings? I've heard good things about them, never tried them myself, it'll e a few years before I need new strings hopefully.

.110-.055 D standard/Drop C (bass)
D'Addario XL nickel wound 13, 17, 26, 36, 46, 62 for A tuning on an Epi Junior special. So it's a 7 string set without the 10 and I substitute the 59 for a 62. I turn the gain up all the way on my Laney and the result is kind of old school death metal sounding tone although my playing isn't death metal like at all.
I think I have a set of 9s on my SG for E tuning, that's my rock guitar.
Every guitar I have is different I think... Mainly due to sticking on whatever I had lying about or what I found in the local shop.
Vigier has 9-42 - D'Addario XL120 tuned to E flat standard
Tele has 11-50 DR tite fit EH11 - tuned to C standard
Strat has 10-46 D'Addario EXL111 tuned to C# standard
SG has 13-56 DR tite fit MEH13 tuned to drop F#
How do you like the zero fret on the Vigier? I really like the tone...

In looking up gauges I found out that there's a EXL155W set with a would third. May have to investigate. I don't bend a lot, but I tried a wound third once and liked it a lot.

It's a vigier excalibur ultra, fantastic guitar. The zero fret took a bit of getting used to certainly, maybe thats the reason I have never fallen in love with this guitar. It almost sounds too good, such a clinical sounding guitar! Not sure why, but have never tried heavy strings on this - too lazy to set it up for anything different if I guess... ;D

Strings are one of those things where I actually don't hear that much of a difference between brands. I usually stick with ErnieBall strings for heavier gauges but I also use Dean Markley's. 10-52 is a toss up (GHS, Dean Markley, Ernieball).
E standard and drop D tunings: Ernie Ball 11-54 on Gibson scale, 10-46 on Fender scale

I have a bit of tendonitis in my fingers, so for my 50+ recordings etc I use 8 gauge strings and tune to c#. lots of buzz which detracts from tone but it is worth it for my application. I know Iommi did that with 9 gauge but he has super special custom guitars... ;)
i use those too most often. i keep trying all kinds of other brands and offbrands, but i go back to these.
i play in (yawn) good old std e tuning on a (yawn) good old stock 90's studio LP. these last ones i got a couple weeks ago are in different packaging now. they are in an opaque mylar pkg or w/e. maybe it helps with moisture resistance when you spill beer into the road case with th estrings. idk...
also, i can bend the hell out of them, a lot, before they break lol.
i have tried fender steel strings that sound kind of cool, but meh....
i absolutely will not use flatwounds.<-imo special purpose strings that are just too dull for the wide range of music i play

Guitar EB Not Even Slinkys, tuned to D standard/Drop C/Drop A/whatever my band is writing in.
Basses: Rotosound Steels unless I find something cheaper, apart from on my five string I have DR DDT 135-55 (Tuned A-F) - an expensive 'try and see if they work' experiment. Fairly good but not sure I can justify spending £10 more per string set over the long term, even if they sound great. Frankly I don't see much of the special 'treatment' the strings receive to make them better for lower register tuning other than their size. Also 135 is pretty small for a 'B' string considering the E string is a 115.
If in doubt I just go Precision bass with Rotosound 50-110 for anything from standard to drop C.

.11's for standard tunin', but I'll occasionally jump a gauge either way for a change o' pace, heavier gauges for lower tuning, never higher than .13 though and I definitely prefer a plain G string (when I was learning I evidently learned to rely on the "feel" of that string in that position to help keep my place, for lack of a better description? I've tried wound thirds and it always fucks me up!)
In decades of playing I've never heard a difference in major brands, frankly, although I got some shitty ones in a bargain pack a few times--ball winding comes unwound, etc.)

I wound up with a few sets of DR Lo Rider 11-50 and I really like them, for standard tuning or D standard.
Big fan of DR bass strings too, I like the steel wound Lo Rider 45-105 in gray box. DRs seem to last a bit longer than the Daddario equivalents, making them worth the few extra bucks

Long time ago I bought 2 boxes of SIT "stay in tune" strings off of eBay mostly in 11s and those have been going strong for years.
Tried some Ernie Ball strings recently for nostalgia sake and just like back in the day I snapped through the wound strings fairly quickly. Never got along with those strings.
But whatever those strings are with the colour coded ball ends are they seem to last forever. Have a set that came on a guitar with a wrap around tailpiece that I was going to replace but they won't die. I'd run those again for sure.

As you can see from the pic 1) my left fore finger and I had a separating of ways! Yes, I fret with my left hand. Insert Iommi jokes here. 2) Soon after our bitter departing I discovered drop tuning. Which, I really don't need, it's a hair bit easier on my left fore finger since the tip of my finger has zero fat padding. Try not to understand this out the hard way--trust me.
I incorporate all sorts of jazzy chord crap so as to not look like I am playing one finger barre chords all the time...and because I like all sorts of jazzy chord crap. Not that anyone notices either the one finger bar chords or the jazzy cool sounding chords.
Personally, I would play in Standard E or Drop D because everything on Classic Rock Radio was in (relatively) that kinda tuning. But, we have been moving away from that for quite some time, haven't we?.
In the band we use drop-c tuning. I've been playing around with diffrent gauges during the years. Mostly on the thicker strings. But recently I've been using 0.11-0.54. I kind of prefer 0.12-0.60-0.56 when it comes to riffing but I't noticed that the overall intonation gets so much better and I play better as well with the thinner ones. It's fun to struggle and fight with the guitar but kind of hard to struggle all the time if you're a weak ass person as myself. ;D
Bass in C or C# .065 - .125
Would like to try .060/.065 - .115/.120 but finding them at reasonable prices is hard.
