Title: Young rockstar wannabe that needs help winning a contest
Post by: SensoryOverload on March 17, 2016, 04:44:01 PM
Hey guys,

First of all, Happy St.Patricks day to all my fellow men of irish descent.

You may remember me from my pedal video reviews or my post a couple months back about a Jack Daniels musician contest where I was competing to win a big music prize. I got several votes from here and am very grateful, but unfortunately I came up short.

However, Jack Daniels just launched a 8th and final "Wildcard" Round between the 20 runner ups (myself included) for a grand prize of $7000 towards my musical dreams. Now I know it's an extremely douchey thing to do, coming on to a forum and asking strangers to vote for me once a day for 2 weeks- but I feel like we've all been at that same point- a 20 year old with big dreams but no dough.

I know some of you can relate to my ambition as a young guitarist, and I'd do the same for anybody else who needed similar help.

So if you're willing to help me win this $7000 Canadian musician contest, I'd be extremely grateful! I'm up against some established bands and hot chicks so every vote counts.

The steps are simple:
1. Visit this link http://www.jdsupportingact.com/videos
2. Enter a legal drinking age and select a province
3. Click the big yellow "VOTE" button on the video with my ugly mug (Jack Densmore)

The winner is based on who receives the most votes over a 2 week stretch starting today [March 17th to March 30th]. You can vote once per day!

I know it's alot to ask but I'd be willing to help anybody else in a similar fashion- whether it's liking your cousins picture on facebook, subscribing to your band channel or voting for something you need- I am grateful to return the favor.

Regards guys and ROCK ON

You can hear some of my music hear too (which may make you not wanna vote for me haha!! www.soundcloud.com/SensoryOL )

"A career in music is not a contest prize"
I think Dave Grohl said that.

I'll go out on a limb and guess that there's a losers bracket to come as well. The creativity associated with click generating websites by design should have no end.

I imagine I'll wait for the Kickstarter request to fund the album.

FYI, since you are in Canada you might want to research arts grants since your country supplies those to bands to promote Canadian music...

Look guys, I'm a student working 2 part time jobs right now trying to chase my passion in music as well. Not asking for your money, just a quick vote whenever you have a chance. If I win this I'll be able to reach some goals I've been working on for years now- I appreciate any help but if you don't want to then thats fine, its all good.

I agree, I'm working on that as well but that is for recording grants- I'm still not ready for that stage yet as I need a PA system and am currently auditioning a new drummer. But yeah Canada is great for helping starting artists out. Thanks for voting btw if you did!

Best of luck.

My only advice for this thread is even if you don't win, don't stop. Keep going.

Congrats!

Now's your chance to help my band by donating a supply of booze, benzos, narcos and Canadian cocaine.
To help us with you know, our dream.

Forget about us? He has 53 posts here, and they're all promoting his band.

I'm on another forum, and he did the same thing over there - he wasn't a member of the forum before the contest, sent personal messages asking for votes, etc.

I've only made 1-2 posts on this forum about my band. While the majority are posting video reviews of guitar pedals, I still post on other threads in this forum, even send people UFC streams sometimes when peoples fightpass isn't working. The truth is I'm incredibly busy and got really caught up in my "campaign"- but now that is over I'll be able to post more on here.

I did make similar posts like this all over the internet- but if chasing a dream requires asking strangers to put 10 seconds aside from their day to vote on a video, thats something I'm willing to do. And a lot of the people I messaged were those who gave me critical feedback on stuff I did post- and I checked out their songs and did the same.

Believe it or not, I'm a good person and help people out regularly- if anybody on here is in the same boat I'd do the same for them as I'm very grateful.

I don't regret looking like an idiot online if it means making progress on my passion, which is something everybody here shares- playing and creating music.

Jesus.  Every time I hear about Tim Horton's I keep thinking back to this scene in the TV Show Justified where the Canadian mafia and the Dixie mafia do a sitdown in a donut shop and the Canadians won't stop talking about "Timmys."
