I've probably mentioned it but my bass amp is my Super Twin.  Works great.

Sweet!

Some of the best recorded bass tone I've ever achieved is running the chassis of my 15w Epiphone Valve Std into an Ampeg 4x10

Do you guys ever notice a lack of low note clarity when only using 100 watts for bass at high volumes?

VOLVO)))

Sometimes, but I play bass more like Lemmy, and less like other bassists. Meaning, lots of mids, minimum highs, and moderate lows.

Yes, I do, and....

Ditto that.
The fact that I kept setting my own boats on fire was considered charming.

practicing sets of songs to develop technique sure gets boring, especially when the songs aren't really what I am really wanting to play.

Christmas carols is what i'm talking about. heh.  but those are the only sort of complicated songs I know cold to work on keyboard techniques without the song getting in the way.

---------------------------------------------------------

crying aside, diligent practice always pays off and I can tell that it's coming back.  especially nailing keys way far down the keyboard. that's so frustrating to keep missing a long jump.

but still, time out for some trancy ambient record-n-go jams as a fun break.

I still haven't recorded the taylor acoustic yet either.    large diaphragm mic + DI for some effects should sound nice.   that thing has a nice detailed voice when being delicate.

so much to do and try...fuck. who's idea was that stupid stupid concept called sleep? dammit.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

question: any special tricks to tapping junk Ibanez humbuckers to make a surf music guitar out of one of my junk whammy Ibanez's? should you use either half over the other half or that sort of thing. do any pot/cap values need to be changed for life in single coil land? I want to lend preference to the single coil setup vs double even if I put a tap switch in.

Danny G

If the humbucker has cool tap wires, that's easy enough to do. Especially since you just want to tap the pickup instead of doing and weird fancy wiring.

Wiring diagrams for diff setups are readily available online.

If humbucker isn't tapable you'll have to replace it. In that case I'd say do some research and see what lends itself to surf-rock sounds when tapped.

Either SD or Dimarzio makes a humbucker that has a rail AND a P-90. That might be cool to try.

ok, I will try the simple  "snip" "solder", repeat, done, as a first go and see where I am at after that.
that should be good enough to start playing around with the surf music. the guitars play great, well Ibanez.  they just sound lame

Dylan Thomas

Shit, I really should practice keys again.  We used to use them live in the early Palace days, and I could still improv Pink Floyd style organ stuff and whatnot.  I played a lot of organs/keys/piano/etc on The Apostles Of Silence, though that was almost ten years ago.  I did a few organ and lead keyboard lines in some Black Pyramid songs, though nothing improvised or too complicated.  I'm really out of practice these days, and your mention of practicing, jibberish, is reminding me of how badly I sucked last time I touched a piano.

practice practice practice heh. besides, it's fun actually playing something.

I have been soaking in surf music. some of the more obscure stuff is really cool as I dig around and it really is helping to round out the overall vibe of that whole scene.
the drummers are all psychos and they pushed all their reverbs n crap to the max with springs twanging etc. they started using simple oscillators on their telstar type space songs.
I found a song where they use a fuzzface on a 1963 song.  they just hit long sustains with it. pretty cool.

so now that I have my twang tank, and soon a twang guitar, this hodad is off to the beach.  yeah   surfers vs greasers

I may need to start wearing red clothes instead of white for our shows. The floor tom head is quite spattered as well. Forgot to tape a knuckle I had already nicked on the ride cymbal. During the show I couldn't change my grip on the drumstick or it would have slipped out of my hand.
We didn't come here for economic politics or religious bickering, we came to rock.

Jake

Yes! That's extremely rock n roll.

is it too early to start the 2015 golden varglobe award nominations?

so I was paying attention to how my rolling task chair was doing while I played notes all up and down the keyboard(61 key only)
I definitely swivel it and roll sideways a few inches either way. I endorse a rolling task chair as a ghetto piano bench. it works fine because it allows you to slide laterally and turn at times just like on a nice piano bench.

also you can lean back after an intense go to stretch your poor hunched spine and not smash the back of your skull from falling off the bench backwards heh.

here's a hot one, nyuk nyuk nyuk.  a modular with a "real tube feel" as in keeps your fingers warm

Danny G

Busy week shaping up.

Two, possibly three rehearsals with 2 or three diff bands, including Ocean of Stars who need to prep for first road gig (40 miles out of town heh) on Friday with a live appearance on the Dave TV show Saturday afternoon. Saturday night playing bass with Thunderosa in San Antonio.

hope that gives good exposure for you.
hey , you can stage wardrobe malfunctions if you are on the tube for even more exposure. 8D
get talked about all over texas real fast heh.

----------------------------------------------------------

I found some actual real piano music for "great gig in the sky" only the first page like to the key change, BUT it's a start.
that's a badass little piano piece.

Caveat Emptor: i'm not sure any one of those videos where some clown shows you how to play "changes" or "great gig in the sky" are actually correct.
I have more faith in the original sheet music versions at this point. why wouldn't one of those tards learn it correctly verbatim then make a video.

probly no one wants to buy the sheet music so they fake it off the album.

Danny G

Heh

We do have a quite fetching female bassist, but I seriously doubt she'd be down to show a boob ;)
