Well, it's not your standard stoner/doom setup, but it works for me.
I run either the pictured Ibanez SF 420 or an Ibanez S-Classic into a Crate PowerBlock and into a Carvin 4x12. Pedal Board pic is pretty much current as well, though there is now a DOD phaser in the loop as well.

Yeah, I love my Epi VJ, awesome little amps. Sounds huge through a 4x12.

Dusted off the SVT to hopefully get some more mileage out of the fucked up speakers in the new run Fender 4x10. Rack off to the side holds my Fender TB-600, power conditioner and wireless unit. Bass is Minnie Pearl, my new 2000 USA Fender P-bass
The SVT finally emerges from the house! Jumping the channels, too? Damn, you're goin' gritty, eh?

I like the VJ, it's way too loud for an apartment though. The Picovalve seems nice, but if I'd be looking for another home rig I'd probably go for the Vox ac4.

Thanks dune! That's a nice little feature.
Alternately, there's an "add attachement" at the bottom that posts a clickable scaled down version of your original photo. I prefer it because it keeps down on bandwidth and whatnot.

Diggin that pick guard! I've kicked around the idea of putting one on my tele for a while now. Been kind of a toss up between that and pearloid.
How do teles sound in a stonerrock situation? You have any audio? I have some strat copy kickin around that is kind of fun to play.
I love my tele but in all fairness I'm playing with more of a classic rock kind of tone than most stoner bands probably are. I also have a stacked humbucker in the bridge. Amazingly it still sounds like a tele, very similar to the stock tele pup(fender texas special), but the humbucker helps cut down on the feedback. The texas special I had in there would feedback like crazy. What I really like about it is that we have two guitar players and living in different tonal realms (he plays a les paul into a 5150) allows what each of us is playing to cut through really well.
I love my tele for stoner/doom, it's bright as balls, the EMG's have a really flat frequency response, and they're super even so strings don't compete for the output. I hate humbucker EMG's, they're bad. This tele set kind of made me angry at myself because I liked them so much. The output is low compared to a humbucker, but since they're active, there's no noise, no 60hz hum. Though my '86 JCM800, cranked up, no pedals, tone sounds like Shellac -1000 Hurts. I know that's not stoner, but it is a super fucking killer tone. It'll sound like whatever you want it to. It's got a fat neck, and fat frets, and lower-middle action. Toss anything with a ton of gain in front of it, and it'll sustain for days, and it fuzzes out well, but you still get the twang through all the mist and fog. It's a kickass choice. I'm thinking about building one here in a few weeks, when I have some bones, heartwood cherry body, rosewood neck/board, single soap bar. That pickguard is of the tooled leather persuasion, hand cut by me. It makes that guitar, in my eyes. 340 dollar Mexican tele, 400 bucks in upgrades. Graphite saddles, graphite nut, those EMGs, that pickguard, refret it myself... Love that guitar.
Nice dude. My tele is a mexi, too. I've been slowly upgrading it over the years. A few different sets of pups in and out of it and recently had a bone nut installed. Next I'm gonna throw some new pots in and a new jack, not that I think it needs it so much as I just like to keep busy and it seems like a cool little project. After that I'm looking at throwing some graphite saddles on it.
How was it doing the refret? Was it a pain in the ass? Did you have someone to help you out with it or are you just a pretty handy sort of dude? I would really be into doing something like that but I'm pretty sure I'd be too intimidated to do it without someone to walk me through the process.

Now back playing in a band for the first time in 5 years too, so actually using the gear again - glad I didn't sell it all when I had my early midlife crisis. Strat was just given a set up at CC music in Glasgow, plays like a sweetie now.
The band I joined have given me a pretty long leash when it comes to writing and sounds, actually using the tele for most of it. The other guitarist in the band uses an SG, think the brash edge of the tele works well in the mix. Red Fang would be a band to check out to see if you like the sound of a tele in stoner music.

Best book you can ever own. The refret was easy, pulling the frets was the hard part. I glued mine, tapped 'em in with a brass headed dead blow hammer. Set the neck dead straight, leveled them flat, instead of to the radius of the board, I chose the biggest fretwire I could. Hand filed every bevel on my hand side, saw neck sucks. It wasn't bad. New nut was installed when I did the frets, took me about 4 blanks to get it right, since I had never filed one from scratch. All-in-all, I love the shit out working on guitars. I do all my friend's shit for free, at this point, just to keep me amused.

I've only had it for about a year, but its been good to me so far. Not long after I got it, it started making a noise, turned out to be something small like a solder joint or something. I bought it from a guy, that said he had it for about 2 years, and he bought it from a guy that had it in a studio since around 1974. So I doubt that the thing has had to run at the volume, or endure the vibrations that I put it through, running my guitar tuned to B standard, through it... :D
I've only heard of people having problems with the newer orange models, with the tubes mounted on the circuit board and stuff like that.
Tubes mounted on the circuit board. Eep. Gonna have to take a closer look at that Thunderverb 200...

I dont know about the thunderverb...
Here is an example I found of modern orange..(http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c231/Toronto_Ontario/RV50a-1.jpg)
Here is an example I found of an old OR120...although the doubled up caps on the board aren't orignal..still looks like a less troublesome amp.
EDIT:actually thats probably an OD120 or whatever they were..the ones with master volume. Looks like it has an extra knob.
I think unless you get a new custom shop hand-wired Orange it's going to be PCB based.
I like Joel's thread on their overhaul of one of the new Oranges
http://www.planetoftheamps.com/orange-ad-200-mk3-bassamp.html (http://www.planetoftheamps.com/orange-ad-200-mk3-bassamp.html)
but I concur mounting tubes, especially power tubes on a PCB is asking for trouble, as is mounting pots and input jacks. I'm not anti-PCB, but certain components should be mounted on the chassis.
I wish the jacks on my Marshall were chassis mounted... I would feel a whole lot better...
Their not? I thought the JCm 800's were all similar to the above pic.
It's an 86. The tube sockets are chassis mounted, but the fucking jacks are those plastic 6-lug board mount jacks.
Jesus fuck, the pots are board mounted, too.
Isn't the major telltale that an 800 has PCB-mounted pots/jacks is whether the inputs are horizontal versus vertical?
That would make sense :D
I see a lot of Marshall buffs making the distinction of early 80's JCM 800's, I guess they changed the design later in the decade? Funny all the ones I ever worked on must have been older, I thought the real crap didn't start, design-wise until the JCM 900's.
Looks like the re-issues also have vertical jacks, so I'm guessing they abandoned the pots and jacks on a board for those?
It seems like these parts couldn't be THAT expensive. I wonder why building your own amp isn't a more common practice...
Transformers are pretty expensive.
I think I said in another thread, that I hadn't priced it out, but I wondered if buying a Bugera and gutting it, for the chassis and transformers, would be cheaper than a Weber kit.
A Bugera or Peavey Windsor is about $300-400, the cheapest Equivalent Weber kit is like $450?
So if I had the wiring diagram for say, a thunderverb 200, would building my own be worthwhile, or are all the parts so expensive that it wouldn't matter?
Depends how accurate you wanted to be, Mercury Magnetics do 200W Orange transformer clones, a Power transformer is $300, and the Output transformer is $315. Don't know if you can order transformers from Orange.
Or you could get a Hammond or Weber transformer set for maybe around $150-200 per transformer, not the same as the Orange, but can be made to work. You can certainly build a clone with a similar tone stack and power section for less than $2000, easier still if you don't want to bother with switchable channels.
Weber even have a kit for a guitar amp with 6 6550/KT-88's rather than 4.
My stuff.

6, huh? Jesus. Two questions - Does that kit come with a cooling tower? -and- Do I have to get my plutonium 238 on the Black Market or does Weber have a supply?
It's basically a bass power amp section (think Ampeg SVT) combined with a guitar preamp.
Like the Verellen MeatSmoke I imagine.
Same old shots, no big deal. Will take a new shot once the new additions are made. Also, side note: Is there a pedal/amp guts thread? I think it would be interesting.

I have one of those epiphones. It was my main guitar for years. I think mine, they called a G400 vintage series or something. Thing has tone. Never could find a Gibson that stacked up against that epi. I ended up buying a Guild instead. ;) Only complaint about the epiphone would be the neck heaviness. Had to get a strap without a slick backing.

Yeah man, It's definitely a G400. It just keeps sounding better and better with age. And the neck is ridiculously heavy. I'm also pretty happy with the stock p-u.
I have one too! its my main guitar. i may change the pick ups to p90s soon but it does the job as is. A month after i bought it, i stepped on my guitar cord and it ripped the jack right out of the guitar, splintering the wood! I then had the tedious job of glueing it all back together. That was 5 yrs ago and it has been fine ever since.
Here is my most recent addition to my Sunn Family. I know it's not one of the Popular ones but it's going to make a great little gig rig when I get some new speakers in it. I'm thinking about painting it too, seeing as how it's not super valuable or anything.

I wish pedal steels weren't so ungodly expensive. They're just so complex, it's hard to get one at a decent price. I'd love to learn how to play one.
Yes, the cost and complexity discourage alot of people. Less than a new les paul tho.
Complexity doesn't bother me, if I could get my hands on one, I bet I could pick it up. Love how they sound, but I would love to hear the application elsewhere.. y'know?
If you are truly interested in playing pedal steel, I can help you find a decent one. You can expect to pay $1200-1500 for a used pro model single neck. If you were to buy a pro model from a respected maker, you would have no problem getting your money back for it by selling it again. If you buy the $800 Carter Starter from Musicians Friend, or any student model, you will loose money on the resale.
Learning the pedal steel has been one of the most rewarding things Ive ever done musically. I get massive DAILY enjoyment out of it, I am a much better and happier musician, I get to play with many interetsing bands, I get great feedback on my performances from enthusiastic audiences (chicks MILFs and even grannies panties are moistened when they hear it), and have paid for the instruments cost already with live and studio gigs.
as for hearing the application elsewhere, the pedal steel has been used in every kind of music from jazz to avante guard to classical to hip hop . Theres quite a bit of pedal steel on Earths-Hex album. Its on Exile on Mainstreet, its all over Zeppelin 3 (played really poorly too). You can take it wherever you wanna go with it.

E9th and Jake are treading on thin ice with me. Way too much sweet gear and Im broke and fiendind hard and may take action.
Yeah - that Silverburst (and the doubleneck) are Chinese Gibsuns. The Silverburst is a pretty spot-on cosmetic match. It's not a bad player. And with a couple different pickups, new caps/pot, and a swapped out bridge, it's sounds really good. I'm having some guy who relics guitars out here give it a once over. I love that finish when it starts to turn green – so that's what he's gonna do.

Are those your drums, Mike?
I wish... I'm the guitarist in this group. Our drummer's kit fucking slays though.. I think they're mahogany shells or something, fucking huge, and weigh a ton. It's a Gretsch set, I can't remember the exact model/series/line though.

Our bass player just picked this up from a friend of ours. It's one of Al's old cabs. It's a 4x15.

I actually took one of my Concert Basses out for practice on Monday night. Which hasn't happened since I replaced it with the Beta Bass.
Plugged straight into the back "power amp in" & ripped shit so fucking hard.
Setup was...
USA P BASS---> Boss OC-2 > Korg Pitchblack > Old Square EHX QTron > 90's ProCo RAT II > First Act Chorus > Tech21 VT Bass---> Sunn Concert Bass + some old (homeade?) 2X15 @ the space
I love my Beta Bass (which replaced my CB) for the fact that it has 2 channels but for me nothing thats solid state beats just having a strong power amp to push with my pedalboard.
IMO these heads are unbeatable in effectiveness as far as power, upkeep & toughness are concerned.
I don't really want to go to tubes anytime soon and if it weren't for SS Sunns I don't think it'd be possible not too in this style of music.
So Al has hung up those 4x15's and sold them? He must be reaaaaalllly into those emperors.

Yeah, don't think hes used those in a while. when I saw him w/ Sleep I believe he had
1. Older Ampeg Head & 8X10
&
2. Marshall JCM900 and 2 4X12's
I also dont think he was using them the time i saw Om a few years ago.
I just fig'd he had them stashed away somewhere, but fuck...
They were using rentals at those Sleep reunions shows, different gear at every gig.

I saw Al w/ Om and he had what looked like 2 v4's plugged into 4x12's... Sounded righteous and loud as a motherfuck too.
Alright, someone needs to explain something to everyone. Al CONSTANTLY uses guitar cabs, is this because he rocks an amp with a metric shit-ton of balls to act as sort of a kicker for his highs and mids coming from the guitar cabs? I know all of the Marshall cabs he used on tour weren't his, so they couldn't ALL have been fitted with bass 12s. I have a theory, maybe he's found a way to make a route-able crossover for his pedalboard, or somewhere hidden behind the amps to send only certain frequencies to certain amps, so he doesn't blow the 12s in the guitar cabs. Another theory, The AMOUNT of 12's he's using spreads the low end across enough area to counter-act them jumping out of the baskets. I was told that a 6x12 guitar cab was more than sufficient to play a bass through, it's the amount of speakers that matters... and, of course the handling power...

I'd assume the fact that he uses a fullstack when he does it would help out a little, but I have no way of even guessing how he does this constantly.
I've seen some of his pedalboards and its always pretty bare-bones. I know he has used a DS-1 for his guitar amp side, maybe its the fact that he's losing some or possible a lot of lows there if he has the tone knob set that way.
He very well may have some sort of crossover hidden somewhere though.

Looks like a Trace-Elliott... V6? All tube head, kind of rare.
QuoteHe very well may have some sort of crossover hidden somewhere though.
Follow the cables, he has two outputs. One is going through the DOD 250, the other through the Boss. Maybe it's an optical illusion but it looks like everything is cranked on the Boss, including the tone knob. Maybe that's the line feeding the guitar cabs. Or he could be EQ'ing some lows out, of the head that feeds the guitar cab.
I've seen OM a few times and never noticed a guitar cab in his setup, but I don't consciously pay that much attention to gear at a show. A little bit, but it doesn't sink in I guess.
Yeah, I know he was spitting the signal, I was talking about setting different frequencies to different heads.
The DS-1 is def the guitar rig side & the DOD is the bass side.
And since the Boss is all cranked you can be sure hes losing a TON of low end on that signal.
Called my car stereo buddy who makes rad active crossovers, to see if he could rig me up an active crossover that splits lows and high/mids to two quarter inch jacks, and also to see if he can build me a phase push so all of my cabs push in phase. This might be a neat experiment.
Yeah it's a Trace V6. He's got George Rice's Matamp 200 but it needs tubes.

I got the V in '91-'92 at E.U. Wurlitzer in Framingham, MA for $450 I think. I added the EMG's, Grover locking tuners and dome knobs. You've gotta love the cheesy 80's pinstripes. I'd never sell it.

SEM paint works great too. It's like a rubber-based paint, it's flexible, never tears, fades, cracks, etc. Perfect for leather, tolex, etc. ;)

hey brother, weren't you rocking more cabs? i know it was just you and your drummer so you had this mini wall o' doom
Picked up some cool pedals a few weeks ago and they've made it through the honeymoon phase. The new TC Electronic Flashback delay and Hall of Fame reverb are amazing. The reverb does subtle, deep atmospherics, huge halls, dripping surf and a few unique settings I rarely get to use. It not only has these sounds but they're great sounding. The delay though is what really surprised me. The tape, modulated, 2290, analog and reverse delays sound so good. I wasn't very interested in the whole toneprint idea at first but there are some awesome toneprints for the Flashback. The dotted 8th note setting is a lot of fun and not just for ripping off the Edge. One sets the flashback apart from my carbon copy, DD-20 or malekko 616 is that the repeats just sound fuller and lively than most analog delays. It's also cool that these not only have stereo outs but stereo in's. Too many stereo pedals have mono inputs for some unknown reason.
yeah peyotepeddler, I have more cabs, but this is all I've been using at home.
Wish I could use my v4 at home. Even through a small cab, it's loud as fuck.
That's what the VT-40 is for....oh wait, that's loud as fuck too. :)
it is loud as fuck. That little external master on top of the amp, and the fuzz pedal is how I make it work at home and on the stage.
How is the external master? Mine is actually a master volume unit. My other guitarist has a NMV one though... Both are guitar models. If anyone is curious, his sounds warmer and fuzzier and mine sounds clearer. Equally good for guitar but my master volume unit is definitely a more solid bass amp because it has more headroom.
the external master is handy. It works well to get a more saturated tone at bedroom levels, but it really shines when you can crank it up a bit. I turn the main volume on full, then barely turn on the master for playing at home. Live, I can turn the master up to about 12 oclock and the amp is very crunchy but still not much sustain. Amazing for classic rock tone.
To really overload it and get all fuzzy, you need a boost of some sort. Then it becomes fuzzier than my big muff, though it's still cool to use the fuzz sometimes for tonal flavor. I really dont use it that way very often, but it sounds killer
The Burny easily weighs ten pounds, maybe a little more and has a fat neck (unusual for a Jap. LP) but I already love her. I'll get pictures up of the amps later this week.
The SG has a 57+ in the bridge and P94 in the neck. The Burny has a Burstbucker 1 in the neck and a Rio Grande BBQ in the bridge.

Yes. I've been working long hours, 7 days a week to buy my new drum gear. My new cymbals will also rule all. If I can scratch up enough, there may be a new GIANT fucking bass drum on the way as well.
New pics may be in order for me soon.
I've got my feelers out on a 1973 Coliseum Bass head at the moment. :crosses fingers:
I need pictures of my whole solid state Sunn family regardless though.
I need a higher wattage bass head, the betas break up crazy early. Maybe I need two? Zig, sell me the Concert bass.
Just plug it into a power amp.
Think of it a 3000W Beta :o
In my experience the Betas get WAY louder than the Concerts. The wattages can be deceiving. If you're looking for more power I'd be looking @ the Coliseums. I'd say the 330 is probably the next step up.
You do have to turn up the drive on the Betas though, so I know what you mean about them breaking up early. I find though that my Beta Bass can be voiced to give off a lot more highs and playing dynamics with the right settings. You have to set one channel a little cleaner than the other and plug into the both channel.
I don't think I could sell either one of my CB's at the moment, one is in really good condition so I'd want to keep it and my other one is one I've had the longest & it goes back and forth to practice and mostly everywhere else. Especially anywhere I don't want to take my others.
Actually, I think I've fig'd it out. The Red Concert Basses, like mine, are 300W @ 2 Ohms.
I've only ever run them @ 4.
So, the Wattages aren't AS deceiving. I still think with the Drive cranked a Beta could KO a Concert 9/10.

I don't own it any more, but it was a pretty good amp for the 3-4 years I used it. Lots of low end but it did not have the grittiness of the ampeg or traynor, a little clean and you needed an OD pedal to get any sort of drive, I wasn't a fan the the distorted channel either.
If the Traynor had another 100 watts it would be the best amp ever, for now it is my go to studio amp.

I played this rig last night at Antone's, family reunion of sorts. Middle cab is the house Dietz 2x15 for Antone's. I have used it every time I play there, and have fallen in love with it. Rumoured to have belonged to Tommy Shannon.
On the left is a custom Mergilli Innovations replica based on the aforementioned Dietz's specs and loaded with period correct EV-B's.
Cab on the right is my newest aquisition. Found it on Craigslist, showed link to Eric Tessmer and he bought it to harvest the speakers (just blew the EV in his Vibroking). He then sells me the empty cab for $100. Which I then load with budget Eminence Delta 15's.
Heads are my trusty mid-70's SVT and a Fender TB-600 which is reliable as hell but not so much on tone.
Middle cab was not hooked up and strictly for looks!

found a schematic, now my net is back properly, clean channel is closer to tube than the dirty channel which has like a built in RAT, with diode clipping, either channel you're gonna run through an op-amp buffer in the FX loop (even without FX) and the usual FET's and crap for channel switching. Why the hell use the vactrol on the input and then FET's everywhere else. Anyhoo, ran a boost into the clean channel and the damn thing is loud, no wonder guitar players go deaf, bloody treble.
My Marshall has that kind of tinny-trebly-engh to it. I should mod it over to the bass version, recap it and retube it. You'll guide me with pictures, eh, EH? hahaha.

kind of glad I didn't trade that 15" with Justin. :)
i know, right hemi! i'm still going back and forth on selling/trading one of my 2x15s for a different cab. i just don't know.
btw, is that your crate stealth?

I was told that a 6x12 guitar cab was more than sufficient to play a bass through, it's the amount of speakers that matters... and, of course the handling power...
he plays a rick, stereo outs. splits the rig at the guitar, effects all on the bass side, eq's the guitar rig for just higher frequencies. 8 75 or higher watt celestions can handle a 100 watt head with ease. eq'ing out below 250hz (guesstimation) eliminates nasty cone throw which obviously shred cones and melts voice coils. those are straight up guitar cabs w/stock celestion speakers. if you've seen him live, it's easy to identify his flow, when he switches into a lower volume passage his effects always lag on the bass side.
also, if it were my rig i would run the bridge pickup to the treble side, neck pickup to the heavy side. it sounds like that's what he is doing to me.
Single mono cord to a Boss tuner, one out to a Boss DS-1, one out to the DOD 250. I'd guess the DS-1 is the high side and the 250 the low, given the frequency response of each.

nice picture. not how i would do it, but obviously very effective. he's al, he can do what he wants.
Finally took a pic of my current bass rig last week.

Ampeg 810e
My Sound City B120 and GK 800RB are stacked up in back, but they're not getting used right now. Maybe if I end up getting a 2x15 like I've been considering for a while. No pics of my guitar gear or pedals, which have changed a lot since the last time I posted pics in the old Jam Room, but I haven't really been playing guitar over the last year anyway.
That's my basic setup. It works all the time, every time, but for shows I borrow another 8x10 and lay 'em on their side because I like to wheel around lots of shit ;)
I got that 370 from Fuzzfarmer back in '07; it's a great amp..
these rigs look so awesome.

It's OK, I'm i double digits, and I don't have a problem ::)
The 412-65 has two EHX speakers, two unknowns, and is of dubious ohmage until I meter it. The unknowns appear to be old, no labels, but they have CORK seals? Crazy. Doesn't sound bad despite the awful gouge repair in one of them. I may do the toilet paper trick, or... if it ain't broke don't fix it, for now...
Didn't know EHX made speakers ???
Neither did I? I pulled them out, and was like "The fuck?" All it says is "Musical instrument speaker" no wattage rating, or ohm info. Any way to figure out how much they can handle?

they made them back in the heyday of the company (early to mid nineties?).
you could try emailing them? other than that i have no idea. :'(
Solid. I restored the baby blue, and retained the logo/model number. The goon used latex house paint. I went gentle with the acetone, and it's a beauty...
nice. what did you pay for them?
150 bones for the pair.

No, you can guesstimate by the size of the voice coil, but it's nowhere near an exact science.
I'll bullshit it when I find the proper ohm load.

Wow, those Verellen heads are dinky, I didn't know that. Which model is that?
It's a one-off from a few years back. A part for part Model-T clone. I do believe it's fair bit smaller than Ben's usual stuff.
Added an Orange 4x12 today. It's got Celestion GK-100s, which are designed for use with their AD-200 (or Thunderverb 200).
Basically for bass or guitar use. Sick speaker. HUGE bottom, smooth highs. Biggest magnet of any Celestion guitar speaker. Retarded heavy.
I'm afraid my Dano baritone will shred my greenies, so the purchase was deemed necessary.

Have you played "Fortunate Son" through it yet? I bet it rips!
haha nope, no fortunate son yet with it.
As for ripping it is exactly how I remember it to be, very transparent I guess would be one way to put it, not much "color" from the amp itself so pedals sound exactly how they sound. It make a great addition to what I already have.

I only run one of those 370's--the other belongs to Black Pussy, they played with us that night--but yeah, one 370 into two 8x10 fridgeys, EQ full-bore across, no pedals, beater Squier P-bass with the P/U wired straight to the jack, jack. This is how I run in Holy Angell which only has one guitar full stack and myself, sounds pretty good for what we're doing.
For Seahag (two full-stack guitars + me) I use a Fender Jazz into the same rig but lately I've been using a Boss ODB-3 bass overdrive, sounds pretty mean and doesn't eat up low-end nearly as badly as other pedals..

Laney GH100L Guitar Head
2 Avatar 4x12 Contemporary Cabs (the green ones) with Vintage Celestian 30's
Peavey Ultra Guitar Head
Avatar 4x12 Cab with Vintage Celestian 30's
I use the Laney + 2 green Avatars in Seahag, and was using both the full stack and the half with my other band Snakedriver but I think I'm going to scale it back to just the full stack from now on.
Pedalboard:
Blackout Effectors Dual Fuzz (Musket Fuzz + Fix'd Fuzz in one pedal) - I mainly use the Musket side.
Boss DD-6 Digital Delay
Boss Tuner
I also have the Blackout Effectors Whetstone Phaser pedal and the Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh that I haven't really implemented into either band at the moment.
My main guitar is my white Agile 3100 Series Les Paul copy.
I also have a bass rig that I'm letting my bass player in Snakedriver use. Its an Ampeg SVT Pro-3 Head, with an Ampeg Classic 4x10 cab and an Ampeg Classic 15 Cab, and he uses my Boss ODB-3 pedal for distortion. This is the pedal Dave has been using lately as well in Seahag.

Beta Bass and Beta Lead, both with footswitchage, and a Beta Power +, and a few effects. Mountainking Electronics' Megalith, EHX Metal Muff, and a Sunn Buzz.
I run an extended scale baritone Rick copy thing made by Agile through it.

just had a quick run through, bass seems doing well considering the age and shipping across the globe. pots are bit cranky but she's getting a full work-up next week.

I'm literally dying of anticipation. I really need to hear that Sunn Buzz!
I recorded a vid of it earlier in the day but I don't think it sounds very good, I'm going to try something else tomorrow. On top of all that the input on the Buzz is so worn that nearly every time I flipped the switch it cut the circuit and gave wonderful pops and buzzes. Have an idea how to fix that one too. I deleted that vid in shame right quick.
In other news, I'll probably update my rigpic due to the addition of a Sunn Alpha Slave to the Beta Bass.

Got my "very special" Twosome today with the mod they used on those limited black ones awhile back...amazing so far. Can't wait for the Black Arts duo for even more fun per box.
hmm i have a black twosome but it doesn't have that toggle switch in the middle. Is that so you can run both sides at once?
You can run both sides at once and you can also select with the toggle which one goes first in the chain. The switches are actually mislabeled since they work more like the "A very special twosome" so the left is for the fix'd and the right turns on the musket. What's cool is that the color led in the eye of the rabbit is different based on which pedal is set first.
Did they make another black one besides this one?
This is my Twosome:
When I ordered mine, I just ordered the regular Orange one but at the time they were out of the Orange ones and asked if I would like a black one at no extra charge. I went ahead and had them ship me the black one, so it looks like it works just like the regular Twosome, its just a different color.

My current setup. I've really gotten into Surf and Rockabilly lately.
Late 60s/Early 70s Fender Solid State Pro Reverb
Dano Corn Beef Reverb (more of a Slapback echo to my ear)
Dano Tuna Melt Tremolo
Dano Chili Dog Octave
Harmony Strat
The amp has a built in Reverb and Vibrato but even with the foot switch they don't really work. Any ideas? You can barely hear them when they're switched on.

From right to left: RMC Picture Wah, MJM Roctavios, MJM London Fuzz, MJM Sixties Vibe, Electro-Harmonix Pulsar Tremolo and Analog Man ARDX20 Dual Analog Delay.
Classy. How's the London fuzz?
It's great, just what I was looking for. With the fuzz knob at fully clockwise position and the guitar's neck pickup I get that violent fuzzy texture that I like so much and yet still very musical sounding. With the fuzz knob "almost" at fully clockwise position I get my standard distortion kind of sound, maybe a little bit more aggressive than your average distortion pedal.
Right on.

4x10 C10G30's
tuner/MKII/T.O.Crybaby/Torn'sPeaker/MemBoyDLX
Is that a LSTR next to the pharaoh?
You dig???
Hell yeah, the LSTR is a fuckin' monster. The Pharaoh is it's boost. I might switch them around, although the LSTR gives me some great midrange. The Qtron was added today, I'm using one of the stereo outs from my Cathedral reverb to run to my tuner so it's on all the time, and I can tune on the fly. I've been needing that something fierce. The POG is literally just running as a faux-bass guitar, I can do fun filtery funky shit between it and the Qtron. The compressor... is noisy as fuck. I can't believe how noisy it is.
I really want to replace the AD-80/DML10 with a Boss Giga Delay, the AD-80 is great and all, and the DML-10 does a lot of wonky shit that I don't use. I just need a legit tap-tempo controlled delay. The GD does that awesome oscillation thing, too in the "twist" mode. I'd run one of those, or if I could find them for a decent deal, I'd run it and the RE-20 together. I'm going to need a bigger pedalboard, soon...

Yo! If you decide to sell that AD-80. PMZZZ!

yeah..its an echo theremin..its pretty awesome..this is in the early stages of development..i plan on expansion..im building slow. i need another synth..and more fx..i need a good phaser next too.
Quality linkage, Hemi. Them dee-luxe models are still pretty pricey though. If I'm dropping serious $$$ on it, I'm diggin the moog etherwave plus. In addition to Mentok the Mindtaker sounds, it's got CV outs so you can control other FX with the wave of a hand.

At the moment a band called Ancient Astronaught. You can find us on reverbnation, bandcamp, facebook, etc. Its all old material we are in the process of finishing up the tunes for a full length and we should be recording here shortly.
Is that a 3x15? How is that set up impedance wise?

Yes it is, loaded with weber michigans. Both cabs are 8 ohm cabs. You can find wiring diagrams online for 3 and 6 speaker diagrams pretty easily. The 6x12 has weber 65's and has great mid range cut, the 3x15's michigans are more scooped but have huge low end and really smooth highs, they balance each other out really well. First setup where it sounded best with the eq completely flat on the amp.
So for the 3x15 I'm assuming it's 2-8 ohm speakers in series running parallel with another 16 ohm speaker. Wouldn't the 8 ohm speakers be louder than the 16? This is what I've always worried about with 3 and 6 speaker set ups.
i think 16 ohm would diss more power, since both pathways have the same current, I^2*R = P so the 16 ohm itself is dissipating more power.
Right on, except for a squeir strat I keep around for solos I only use mean 90s.
Already posted elsewhere but why not? No shots of the big rig handy as it resides 25 miles from me currently, but it consists of:
Frenzel Champ -> Leslie 120
Acoustic 450 as slave from Frenzel -> Legend 4x12/g1230s (incredible speaks, wish I had 100watters though just so I wouldn't ruin these if i turned up but fuck it...my ears get too much out of this anyway)
Powered by my hands -> these

heres my current gear crap assortment
Ampeg V4, Emperor 4x12, The small cab on the bottom right is a 70s Ampeg combo shell, with 2x12 speakers (currently G12-75s) which I could make into another amp, on top of that is the first amp I ever built a SE EL34 guy called little green. Pedals on floor, blah blah
Gibson SG, LP Standard +, Fender Tele and that crap bass from Kramer. Not Pictured is my 1W mini amp, my 1x12 tube combo amp, and my Gibson Explorer

it means that the 16 ohm speaker is more efficient and could be louder.
depends on the speaker choice, you might have to tailor the sensitivity to adjust for balance between the two 2 8 ohms, and 1 16 ohm speaker. either a really inefficient 16 or 2 high efficiency 8 ohms

Here's a basic wiring diagram for how it works, and you are correct 2 8ohms and 1 16ohm.
I have not noticed any 1 speaker in the cab being louder than the others honestly, but with those two cabs running at the same time its just a huge wall of sound so it can be hard to tell. They are actually very balanced, i wanted the balance of a 4x12 + 2x15 just one step bigger and it worked out great. If i get a chance this weekend i will plug in to just the 3x15 and see if all three speakers put out the same volume just to make sure.
if P was two times higher in the 16, it would be a 3 db increase over the other speakers, just something to know.

95% of average people couldnt tell a 3db difference, especially when combined with other speakers in a cab. If it was 6db or 10db then it could be problematic and alot more noticeable. I have a shitty DB meter on my phone that i will use to test the speakers this weekend and see if ti comes up with anything note worthy.

Although I would love to make that 2x12 ampeg shell into a combo amp. Maybe a mix of a super clean modded Matamp front end, and a Sunn power amp with harmonic vibrato and possibly reverb. Thinking some nice newer Earth style vibes

yea, 3db no biggie.
oh btw, while driving to Mass to get V4 i was put my headphones on and listened to all of the bees made honey in the lion's skull and said damn it would be kool to be in a project like that with vocals. I was like shit Skip would be good for that
Do the combo nick that would be crucial!
If only i didnt live 7 hours away :'( I havent listened to that album in forever, i will have to dig it out again if i can find it. I have as many musical project ideas as you have crazy amp ideas its so hard to settle down on one to 2 things, especially when factoring in finding reliable dedicated musicians to do them with. If i lived closer i would be all about it, me on rythmn guitar + vox with you on lead would be sick!

its just a crackheads pipe dream really. Baritones tuned down, some piano 2. I always thought a piano clean is a heavy sounding thing on the low notes if u let them carry.
the amp would be a 2 x KT88 cathode biased, non master not too much power there but it would be sweet for clean dark tones

nice more doom room folks
glad to see u made it here
Nice setup, you actually use the FX loop in that amp???!??
Sorry but a long story about why its one of the worst loops i believe. If the design is taken from the OR/Mats of yesteryear
I only use the loop for delay as I like to run it with fuzz a lot, but I agree, the loop absolutely blows but it works fine for just running some delay
yea it has to do with the huge output impedance of the loop, something like ~100k or so which is fuckin shit unless your pedal has a built in hi impedance imputs possibly with an input buffer
It was originally created to be used with the stand alone reverb units
like this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzu9PHebHgY
they have usual tube gain stage type impedance and input levels which were well matched for the that kind of loop
No wonder you asked for a loop in your design

what does the mode knob do?

what does the mode knob do?
good question, its an infinitely variable control over operating mode of the EF86 which is a small signal pentode tube. One way on mode will operate it like a pentode with a bypassed screen while the other way operates it in a neat triode mode with the screen and plate capactively shorted. In the middle you get somewhere inbetween even a psuedo ultra linear point somewhere alone the line which results in minimum gain.

That's badass. I really like the mode switch. Never heard of someone doing pentode triode switch for a pre amp tube before, much less putting that on a dial.
Question: is that 2 chokes in the power supply, or do you have an inductor in tone stack?

Just 1 choke, the other is a radioshack PT for the regulated 12V and 9V supplies, relays and the LEDs.
The pentode control is really nice, in pentode mode the EF86 has a stronger attack, much more gain, harder clipping while in triode the gain decreases, the clipping is softer, smoothed out response

Pretty good, with the germanium it's the perfect compression. The true highlight is the blend between germanium and silicon.

I thought they were 3-way selectable like that too, fuzzfarmer.

Diodes out is my favorite. It sounds the most natural to me. At least on tubes amps. SS amps Id go with the silicon. I don't have one with germaniums.

Not particularly but with the speakers and amp head itself, it always lacks low end. It's why I have been digging that LPB1 Nano so much lately, once you set the pre-amp and master accordingly.

There's your next thread topic Amp Settings arranged by Genre ;)
like you get in all the best amp manuals
"Heavy Metal"
Bass:10
Mids: 0
Treble:10
Presence:10
Resonance: 10
Reverb: lol
Gain: 10 pushed with a tubescreamer pushed by a boss SD-1
That made my ears sad just reading it.
i actually really love the idea of the "amp settings by genre" thread. endless laughs there (and probably some gems of real suggestions/wisdom).
The only ones I can ever remember are Lemmy and Dixie, because they're kind of contrary to each other.
Dixe: Bass 10 Mids 10 Treble 0 everything else at 10
Lemmy: Bass 0 Mids 10 Treble 5 dimed oot

I have a bunch of amps.
This is my current "rig". I'm not in a band right now so it's not really a "rig" so much as a collection of stuff I wire together as I get bored. I've been experimenting with A/Bing a couple amps. The Recto has never done a very good clean or overdrive, and the Electra-Dyne doesn't have high gain... it's like they were meant for each other. Turn both on at the same time and it's super sludge-tastic.

2) No.
a Mesa fan. I was thinking about making myself a Mk2 C+ lead channel only clone for those times I wanna thrash out
The II C+ is the only Mesa I'd buy and just for nostalgia...maybe that one Mark III with the huge power section (I forget the specific sub-model).

you could do a 6x6l6 model on the C+ if u really wanted that much wattage for that kind of sound. I have schematics for whatever id need even that graphic EQ stuff.
I've seen a Mesa pedal on another forum, the guy replaced the tubes with FET's ;D
Those mesa pre-pedals sound great. There is a video of one in my youtube channel.
My amp and guitar are the backbone of my tone.....this cab isn't mine, i use an avatar classic 4 x12 with gh12s and v30s that I actually think sounds better than the orange cab. One of the OR120s is mine. It's a '77 or120. And then the armstrong...it's my baby.
I don't have pics of my pedals but i only use an Ibanez AD9 delay, a super hard on clone, and sometimes a fuzz that rayinreverse built me. I basically got rid of most of my pedals and rely solely on the git and amp for tone. More pedals always equals more problems, so I got sick of them and downsized to essentials only.
I don't have better pics. I never remember to take pictures of my shit.

A combination of my stuff and my fathers stuff that he never touches anymore and I have claimed them as my own.
Oh I forgot about my crappy P Bass knock off. Not worthy of a picture.
Roland Funny Cat! What's it sound like?
It's an interesting creature. The soft distortion sustainer sounds something like a compressor boost with a slow attack so you get a lot of pick sound. Sounds a little rock n' rollish into a clean amp. The harmonic mover can get sounds like a wah pedal left half way or a farty, octave-up kind of fuzzy sound. I don't use it too much but it's fun to mess around with.
I have and love the older version of that Phase Tone. What's the unlabelled box? Looks like a Muff at a guess...
Exactly, it's a Russian Muff clone I made. My main source of dirt.

Pharaoh into a T probably sounds awesome.
I don't even want to think about how good it would sound.
Anyway... here are the two rig videos that I made, the second one is only about fuzz. They were made for another forum board (Chilemusicos) and because of that I speak in spanish during both videos but don't worry there's nothing too essential to know about all the things that I say. If you want to avoid all the useless speech in the first video I start to play around 06:25. In the case of the second video the time is 01:22.
Please keep in mind that I got a little bit nervous so I talk more than what I should and my playing was a little bit messy and sloppy, also there was a problem when I made the transfer from the 3 inch DVDs to the laptop so there is a series of little intermittent pauses in the sound during both videos, the length of every pause is less than a second so I don't think they are too annoying... and yes, I'm wearing sperrys ;D
Dude, we're messy and sloppy guys!
You must not have seen the garbage demos I put up earlier! hahaha.
yea dont worry im very sloppy in my demoes. I do try to avoid talking as my voice is an anathema to me.

I eated them.
I had one of the bootsy bass wahs a few years ago, heaviest (weight-wise) fucking pedal I've ever owned haha.
I like those SD wahs, lots of weird options but heavy (not always a bad thing). The whine-o-wah my buddy had was pretty powerful compared to the others we tried. They also had that cool mold spores one that was discontinued. We used to write strange emails to the builder(?), Kenny Segall until he stopped wanting to talk to us :D

I just now noticed that Bean there, NSTS. What's your take on it as an owner? I have to admit that the one (and only one) I have ever played was absurdly heavy. Musta been like 16 pounds. Not sure if that's a common trait or an anomaly...?
Looks like an Electrical to me...the headstock cutout is straight, the Bean's have a "T".
EGC indeed. The weight is good on this one, the body is pretty thin (as is the neck) and the distribution is very equal. More comfortable to play than my Les Paul, that's for damn sure.

Yes. Señor Diddler appears to definitely not be fucking around.

My rig just feels so boring these days...maybe I need to shake things up. Speaking of which I caught the Melvin's Lite the other night and it was interesting to see Buzz change things up. Anybody know what amp this is? I've seen him use a little solid state amp in some of the YouTube videos but this appeared to be tubed.

This is sans the Acoustic 220 & a still to be determined cab. Also coming in the next few weeks are a few new pedals.
Did you pick up the T40 is Europe? How much?
Bought it last summer on Ebay, it was about 350 euros including shipping from the States. Customs charged me an extra 50 for importing it, still cheaper than buying a new MIA Bass from any kind of brand.
That amp takes pedals like fucking champ btw. The reverb works and sounds great in combination with my Bassballs. Shaking walls with both MV en Channel Volume around 5.
Cool gonna have to get one before some time.

They have a bunch of stuff based off of different things. T's, Bassman/JTM, 800's,And I think a Ampeg style too. All that I have heard sounded really good and the build quality is really evolving into a great package. It's likely a prototype, Sean told me that he wanted to make sure they are 100% bulletproof and badass before they sell one.
coming out with a line takes time even if they are based on classic designs. Its also i think just 1 guy building there so shit, you know look at me i can do only 1 every 2-3 months so just keep that for perspective.
Your stuff was neat and badass right off the bat, they are growing into that. Their stuff is getting the road treatment and being thrashed before they sell one.I know they are trying to take the designs and beef them up and make them bulletproof road warriors. Not near the amount of innovation as Dunwich, but a less is more type of approach.

I have heard from some folks who had used their proto gear that it was solid. I think Will in Indian has a 200W coming his way. Certainly takes some time to get familar with wiring/layout and shit. One thing about building is that there isnt a great resource to learn how to build unless your someone with a long building background from other industries. A lot of experimentation to figure shit out, even Dunwich is a work in that, each build learning a little bit about what works and what doesnt.
I believe that Will used the "T" ish amp an the "800" ish amp. The last few I saw were getting it really tight. Looking very good.

it is definitely different than my LP which runs flatwounds at 56-13 in C Standard and feels pretty loose. You could run the whole thing a set smaller for more slack but i kinda like the tension and the way it vibrates. Clean notes are very powerful. It tends to be a lot more picky about dirt but then again its most likely because I am moving towards a bass like approach.

This is godamned purty. The MoP block inlays pop so much – especially compared to the Gibby's.
Whatever was the final result of the sting angle from the stopbar to the bridge? Were those early pics a weird perspective or something?

combination of it being a smidge to shallow and the angle but we adjusted it after the fact.
Oh alright. If I was to have a V built it would be basically to those same specs (only change would be that I would either shorten it to a 24" scale or bump it up to 30" for the bass VI goodness).
This has also reminded me that I should post my shitty rig at some point. The only reasons I'm holding off right now is because my phase is down at the moment and that I may be getting an aluminum neck built by a machinist that I'm good friends with, so I don't want to constantly be updating. :D
its setup to be a baritone so its like the middle ground between a bass and a git. im still getting used to it

Dave Green only joined Matamp in the 90s, so anything green from 70s is green small g because of the colour. And don't use 6550 in Green Matamps, it makes the resistors fall out.

oh mah gawd! I can hear it here. Nice setup.
Here's my current setup:
1985 Marshall Jcm800 2204 in dark green, 2008(?) Marshall 1960TV cab, 2009 Gibson SG Classic(soon to have a mini humbucker in the bridge), 2007 Epiphone SG G400 Worn brown(best guitar I have ever owned), Fender Blacktop Tele with rosewood fretboard
Pedals- Dunlop crybaby wah, EH Small Stone Nano, Ibanez TS9 tube screamer, Boss DD3 Delay, Behringer Tuner, Visual Sound 1 Spot
Nothing too vintage or rare, but I'm content with what I (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/10/22/yju9eqaj.jpg) got right now.

super cheap at only $200 on ebay! so its a keeper. My line 6 is really fun and I dig bass line 6 tones and use em on most of my recordings too. I have some GK 410 ultralights being shipped to me, so Ill post my stack of DOOM bass rig in a week :)

The swamp ash is definitely a unique sound for a Gibson. It's quite a mellow sound. The LP is quite dark, the SG is a lot brighter. They both have a bit of a scoop in the mids against regular construction LP's/SG's. They're great guitars when I'm looking for that sound but they're probably the two I play the least on a regular basis.

How's that classic 108 fuzz? I've always been curious about them.
It's wicked, made my wah come alive. The buffer adds hi end and cuts any oscillation from a wah. It' my 3rd one, I dropped one and the other I melted the board. Jeorge Tripps designed it. There area 3 hidden trimpots on the inside, but you have to pull the board out. One of them is a bias pot. Lot's of hi-end and mids in this Face.

They are indeed Sanwa. They're like a buck fifty each and work better than anything I've used before.
Drama...since they're the arcade push button type, are they just momentary switches? Any difference between the upper and lower ones or are they both just volume kill switches?
Yeah, they're just momentary switches. Right now they're both kill switches, I'd do something more interesting with the lower one but I'm not sure what exactly.

what's the silver box above your pedals?
It's a pedal built by this guy ned clayton, who has also made the same box for sunn 0)), eagle twin and some more peeps. It is an A/B/C box, that has phase switches, so you can keep all your amps in phase, and each channel has a tone boost that is based on a super hard on in them. It's a cool unit. He is also the guy who is building Hex Amps https://www.facebook.com/hex.cabs?fref=ts.
It's my drummers pedal, he owns and operates his own studio and uses this pedal a lot.
So, you are able to run three amps at once with one of those?

Can it invert phase? It seems like half the time I try multi-amp rigs I get one amp out of phase with the other that ruins the whole thing.
Bought the Mark lll combo and bottom cab brand spanking new in the late 1980's from the Boogie factory in Petaluma. Scored the top cab used a decade or so ago. They are war horses and have been all over the U.S., taking all kinds of abuse. My band(s) are always the loudest (and best tone..other guitarist has a dual Rectifier and M/B cabs and the bassist has a 400+ pushing through an Ampeg 'fridge and an Ampeg 4x12)) going and I never have to turn the volume past 3-31/2 to have that arena-style roar.

Picked this up today, jammed it for a bit in the shop, gonna use it tonight at practice.
On the left channel there's a pushbutton selector for either independent eq or bandaxall style. Assignable reverb via a mini toggle on the footswitch. Heavy low end, sounded great in the room. I guess the KT88's aren't matching either, one is Russian and one is Chinese but he was excited about how it was sounding so he left it.
More to come later, if anyone has specific questions let me know.
Very nice. I saw that one posted on his page. I've been thinking about getting a Dwarvenaut.
Are they still built in Epiphone or whatever they were amps?
Yeah, recycled chassis I think.
Played on it a bunch last night. The independent/interactive eq makes a big difference. Low end is huge, gain is a little bit clippy. Sounds similar to a Black Arts Pharoah in some cases. So far I'm pretty impressed, definitely has a more vintagey tone vibe. More as I tinker with this thing...
That is a killer looking Hovercraft. I participated in the Kickstarter project they had. Too bad it did not fund.
(Although now I'm looking at the Dunwich Wizard and praying to win the lottery).
Post some sound clips of that Hovercraft if you can.

Is this a 100 watter? Does it have enough headroom to compete with a model t? I've been interested in these, but wanted to hear from someone who got one.
It's 90/45 watt switchable. Seems to have plenty of headroom so far, never played a Model T though so I'm not sure. Played it through my Orange cab and a 4x12 with Man 'O Wars, it's got some balls for sure. I'll work on sound clips this week, can't promise great quality but I'll do my best.
Alright here's what I got so far. Apologies in advance if these sound like balls. Amp on 90 watt, level pretty low, like 9-10 o'clock. Les Paul Custom with Pike Dirty Heshers.

Gnarly walls, did you do that?
That Hovercraft sounds great! Killer playing as well.
It sounds like a BIG NUCLEAR POWERED BIG MUFF,
but without a fuzz pedal cause the fuzz pedal is built into the amp

Yeah I drew all that. all the walls were like that. I had planned on doing the ceiling but never got around to it. I painted over all that and now I regret it.

Bought this as a replacement for my broken bottom hi-hat cymbal. Got to messing around with it as an actual ride cymbal and God damn! I think I'm in love.
20 inch hihats? waahhhhaa?
Hehe yep. I have a 20" K Custom Dry Ride for the top cymbal and the 20" Paiste Heavy Ride on the bottom. Pretty groovy sound, actually. I'd like to eventually switch to a brighter top cymbal, though, like a 2002 or Rude series Wild Crash.
Here's my current setup, (L)... Sunn Concert Bass courtesy of Jake0))) (I use it as a slave for that Randall). That's our bassist's rig, too, his second 8x10 is laying on its side on the right in pic. (phone pic)

I'm lookin forward to hearing the arisen Seahag!!
Thanks y'all! The Hovercraft with the whole band has tons of balls, plennnnnty loud. Only played it on 90 watts, not 45 yet but great so far.

how do you have that kick mounted / supported as a floor tom?

how do you have that kick mounted / supported as a floor tom?
Standard issue floor tom legs. Two of them go into the bass drum spur mounts, and I drilled for the mount the third leg goes into. Next project is installing a matching set of mounting brackets and legs to make it more aesthetically pleasing and a bit more stable.
What cab is that, Jake?
Bulletproof Peavey cab, ms412. They are unkillable. I have three.

I also have an old Trace Elliot V4 that just returned from repair. Considering selling it, or buying a 2x15 to go with it.
Because being in zero bands right now really requires 3 full size rigs. :D :-\

Definitely not cheap, but still slightly less $$$ than an SVT retube. Thankfully power tubes (usually) last for years upon years. ;)
That being said, while the 400+ is definitely louder, I've always felt that the 400 sounds better. Surprisingly different tones really.

Is it wrong that I stopped considering getting a Monson once he moved out of the Bay Area (where I live) and yet I have no problem buying two custom guitars from a dude in Florida?
AWESOME Cursed71! :o :o :o
That Monson was how i spent my Xmas bonus two years ago. I almost bought a 70s Gibby RD, but after seeing YOB with Dark Castle I couldn't get Mike and Stevie's guitars outta my head. I'm glad I bought it, especially when I play that RD (which a buddy purchased). The Monson just rules, it is just so well balanced and the neck is perfect. Alot of folks think it looks a bit weird, but everyone who hears it live digs the tone. To each their own, I guess.
Been blasting my new set up all weekend, man it feels good! It makes my wolf teeth rattle! Trace Elliot & Laney 412's and that's my Trace GP7 head its a monster :)

I haven't played guitar more than a handful of times over the past few years, but I'm getting back into the whole deal again. Just got the SG back tonight after having it properly set up...have it tuned to B standard, but like to play in drop A for some stuff. The bottom string is a 74...this thing is sounding heavy.

I bought the Matamp 4x12 on EBay from Will (Mugwart) way back in like 2007 or so, along with a Matamp GTO that was engraved 'Custom Made For Mugwart'. I recently sold the amp back to him and kept the Laney, because it's more versatile.
I know, I feel like a jackass for having a lot of really good gear and just letting it set there. Later on, I'll post all of my pedals, my other guitars and shit, and you should rag me for letting it all set there for so long. I deserve it. ;D

ron: would you walk us through this rig? what's up with the cabs on the left?
That is one of Ron's (Cursetheson) old Green cabs on the right, and we have a similar handle so I see the confusion... But I think Ron has moved on to Dunwich. I split my signal between the matamp and two 4x12s (although now I use one 4x12) and the mysterious cab on the left which is a modified leslie 925. 120 watts. 50 to the driver, 70 to a 15". Has a huge swirly "throw" when I rotate the driver, and a really nasty drive with fuzz pedals. Pairs nicely with Orange/Matamp.
that leslie rig sounds like it would be awesome. cheers

Was the GTO quite a bit louder? Part of the reason I sold my GH50 was because it lacked headroom and past a certain point you mainly got more distortion rather than volume.

Entirely cosmetic. And I believe I have the first one of this version, but I could be wrong. Its fucking rad, and Mark is a stand up dude as well, just the best experience buying gear ever. I will definitely be buying more BAT stuff in the future.

The only thing missing in the photo is my another amplifier, a Laney CUB 12 R.
how do you like the Laney CUB 12? I have been wanting one since the combo is so lightweight and cheap, and I think that the tones are good for heavy rock if you have a pedal like a Proco Rat.
It's very nice, I use it in two ways: clean, with just a very small amount of gain and also dirty, with a high level (not full) of gain when I need a nice amount of tube overdrive (not distortion), depending on the song I'm playing of course. It's a one channel amp but I only have to tweak the gain knob if I want to go from a clean to an overdriven sound. The only problem that I have is with the wah pedal, it tends to sound a little bit "distorted" (but not in a bad way) when I use it with the amp clean, but when I use it in conjunction with the amp's overdrive or with one of my fuzz pedals, the wah sounds amazing.

Mark, the praise is well deserved. The pedal is just plain awesome, the range of distortion tones is just out of this world. From classic milky, creamy fuzz to the sonic equivalent of standing in front of a dragon as it shoots flames out of its nostrils at your face. how do you like the blackstar?
I love the Blackstar! The overdrive channel sounds a bit 2-dimensional as it lacks bass, but I use a Way Huge Swollen Pickel fuzz box to remedy that. I will say that I prefer my Orange OR 15 as it's tone is fuller and more terroristic.
I tried both those amps recently. The Blackstar really surprised me in terms of clean headroom and was a lot more polished tone than the Orange. The OR 15 though was just so much fun to play, so much balls to the sound. Loved it.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the headroom on the BLackstar. The only reason I have a HT 20 Studio head is because I made off like a bandit from this dude on Craigslist. Otherwise, I would have bought a Ht 5. I love small lunch box amp heads! One thing that is cool about the Blackstar is the digital reverb option. I think they do that pretty well even though a lot of people bitch about it 'cause they can't find the "sweet-spot." Whatever. I haven't had a problem with it.
I think that my OR 15 screams with a much richer and intense sound than my Blackstar, but that's probably due to the fact that I use Groove Tubes in my amps. There's another point of contention for a future post, though.

The most amazing amp I've ever seen. Emperor cab's pretty orgasm inducing as well. Nice.
Right now the only things worth a shit in the picture are the butcher and the projector cab. The Marlboro speakers in the 212 are blown, the 215 has blown the dustcaps, and the bass head only works about 15 minutes at a time. But on the rare occasion that I have everything running at the same time it is god damn glorious.
By the way, if anyone knows anything about this projector cab I'd love to hear it. I got it kick down and I've only ever seen one other one.
kenny, you sonofabitch, a lurker no longer....
Bump.
Practice space procured. Guild S100 --> Milk Box --> Digitech PDS 2700 with dual outputs: Idiot Box Blasteroid --> Hovercraft Dwarvenaut --> Randall 2x12 (R212 JT), and diy Big Muff Triangle --> Laney AOR 50 --> old Peavey 4x12 with G12T-75's. Other guitars to be swapped out as needed. Obviously.
Pretty loud, but the Randall lacks bass. Already thinking of swapping out some Swamp Things into that cab to compete w/ the 4x12 efficiency-wise and add a little low end ('tho the 4x12 w/ the bass boost on the Laney handles that spectrum very, very nicely.)

That's actually a volume pedal. But, I have the 80's rat, a pharaoh fuzz, Ibanez AD9 delay, radial bigshot a/b/y, and a korg pitchblack tuner. Used to have a way more pedals, paired down to the essentials.

I compliment you on your ability to maintain your pedalboard at a reasonable size.
I think this might be my next project, replace my board with something smaller and edit down to the essentials (and then keep the bigger board to keep other pedals accessible for noodling around / home recording).

More pedals means more possible things to go wrong...I like my shit simple.
Heh. Mine is not a totally dissimilar rig from yours, Taylor. Your Evil Twin and my Sunn T50C are very close cousins, circuit-wise. Mine is also powering two of the six 12s. It's set relatively clean, with a fuzz (FZ-2) in front of it. The Model T gets no dirt pedal and powers the top four speakers.
And like yours, the pedalboard is mostly just tuner/volume/ABY, but with a flanger and a fuzz. Oh, and a Freeze for when I want infinite singing feedback.

That's a little sexier looking than mine. Did the T50C used to be a combo that you chopped? I got my emperor from my buddy that lives by you, and he had Petras from Atlas cabs go through it, rewire it to 8 ohms for me and install another internal brace for better response. It sounds tasty. Doesn't quite push the volume I want with the traynor, but with the twin on top of it, it sounds awesome.
Oh, and I added a moer shimverb to my board yesterday. It's so little, barely takes up any room.
Yeah, t'was a combo before I got my filthy mitts (and circular saw) on it. Honestly, I care more about opening up its functionality than resale.
And I suppose I'll have to go get a little Shimverb now, so that we'll still have same-sies.

Let's never change. I'll have to chop up my twin and get another cab now though.

I just joined the club. Dual showman... The head version of the EVIL TWIN.
Nice. Those red knobs are the first incarnation of the "evil" Fenders. Tay-tay's is the Pro Tube Evil.
I wonder what makes them so eeeevil? That they weren't just a '65 Twin?
It's fucking mean. I say that.
The only thing I remember about those was they weren't so good with the clean "Fender" tone like the old ones but were good for metal tones unlike the old ones. I think Fender was trying to capture a market share of the metal genre.
Honestly, the cleans are phenomenal. Also loves pedals. The gain is really big and saturated at higher levels, but cleans up and is articulate at lower levels. Can get some straight up bolt Thrower/old morbid Angel shit right off the amp. I use a Caitlinbread SCOD to slam all my amps. Best pedal I've ever owned.
I love Catalinbread stuff. But as far as that amp, if you put old and new side by side there'd be a big difference. If no then they're more versatile than I'd thought previously.

They aren't as sparkly, but you can still get a great clean tone out of it. Traditional Fender nerds didn't like them because they are stupid.

That's close to what I run on my big rig: Mesa V-Twin > Mesa 5//50 split into a '68 SUNN closed back loaded with original SUNN Transducer speakers (rebranded JBLs) & a 4x12/Avatar 2x12 semi-open back loaded with Hellatones.

Looks great. Why the 2x4s between the top and bottom cab?
They're my cab feets. Keep it off the ground.
I get it. They're attached to the top cab. Sweet stack. What are those cabs?
Changing it up a bit. Splitting the guitar into three was annoying but I kludged it together just to see what would happen.

dave , is that gear for gigging? or just like home studio and home jams. I would fear for that beautiful cabinetry and trim.
edit: hey!!! heh, do you play that piano that is in that 2nd pic? real pianos sound real. it's really strange how that works.....
and those upright grands actually have a bit of bottom end vs auntie whoever's wimpy little spinet.

Thanks for the compliment.
The top picture is in my rehearsal space. I don't play out so I don't have to lug it around. (The cabs are heavy too). If we get our shit together and play out, I will probably take one cab, or maybe the Marshall because it is lighter and I don't care if it gets nicks and scratches.
The bottom picture is from my home, and they stay there. I have a Marshall head that is not pictured that stays home.
I don't play piano, but it works and sound good. The people who sold us the house could not get it out of the basement, so they left it there for us!!!!!
What head is that? That thing looks badass but classy. I'm pretty sure I saw a pic of Isaiah from Earthless using one.
EDIT: stopped being lazy and went back to Earthless' page. Tyrant Tone.

Yes, it is from Tyrant. 100 watt, variable gain. Great tone.
This head is actually the exact one Isaiah was playing through during Earthless' last tour. Tyrant loaned the amp to him for the tour (and a cabinet). I had borrowed the amp before that, and decided that if it was good enough for Isaiah, it was good enough for me. Actually, I was going to buy it anyway.
Most streamlined my set up has been in years. Love it

At least use rope lights, you heathen trash.
Dig that purple lighting. We wanted to do purple for the last band I was briefly in but it's a hard color to reproduce cheaply. I see it at venues sometimes but as far as I know it's made using a combination of 2 colors with LED lights. A couple of purple party bulbs doesn't cut it.
ya, LED's are sick. they project a spot which is perfect for that application vs those party bulbs which only produce a "glow".
I love those party bulbs in combo with LED's tho. I have just a couple more lights to put up then it's picture time.
I used party bulbs to put orange glows behind the speakers at the one end of the room, then I aimed blue 3watts LED's at the fronts. it is trippy
Also, I tried out some PAR type LED lamps for a couple of track lights I found. WOW are they nice and bright. and the bulb is a little piece of plastic, as in, you could drop it without hurting it. I tried both daylight and warm white colors. i like them both.
from reef tech, since deep blue and long UV are the 2 colors that penetrate deepest into the ocean, much focus has been made on the blue end of the spectrum
430nm wavelength light is your visible purple/near UV that makes stuff glow. a combo of those and possibly deep blues with some red LED's(the "grow room" glow haha) would probably give a decent purple look
The small amp is a Crate acoustic amp which was part of the gear haul.
Starting bringing it on Bleu Edmondson gigs for mandolin. Still can barely hear it (mainly a monitor) but it looks cool haha

Chinks made a proper fuck up of it, thought they jsut tried connecting the center tap of the transformer they used to the bridge rectifier that didn't need it and cooked half of it off, but there was more fucked, they'll probably sort it out when I've figured it all and told them, but not my priority. Think they employed a qualified electrical engineer rather than someone who actually knows how valves work.
Did you just use the word "chinks" as a slur?
Because that word is basically like saying "n___er", except in reference to Asians, instead of blacks. It's super ignorant.

Of course the SWR still overheated during Adrian's set (outdoor gig) even with the office fan duct taped into the back of the rack blowing directly on it (which up until now how been remedying the issue).
Luckily there was a spare GK400 at the venue. Only prob was it could only run one of the 2x15's.
Sounded fine, but Angeline sounded like God with both cabs during Zeparella's soundcheck

Bottom row from L: MXR CAE Line Booster, modded Crybaby, DIY dual Phase 90 prototype, Boss Blues Driver w/DIY Keeley mods etc (high gear drive), Boss TU-2

Got my old Plush back. Fresh set of 5881's and. Cap job. Didn't have him do anything with the preamp tubes cuz I've got a bunch. Ended up having a couple microphonic ones and a shitty pi tube. I pulled V1 cuz I'll just use channel 2. Ran it through its paces a bit this morning and I actually kinda like it. The reverb ain't bad and it's got those Fender chimey highs.
The cab is something I've had for years. It's actually all nice 3/4 ply including the back panel and has a center support. It's black snakeskin tolex so it might be a Soldano. Can't remember.
Two of speakers are some unbranded 16 ohm jobs and the other two came out of a Crate Vintage Club 50 I had a million years ago. Wired 4 ohm.
All in all not bad for a budget rig.

Very nice, RAGER. And ooooh pinstripe! Really good looking fun room there.
Every Soldano cab I've seen, not that many actually, but were all front loaded and velcro grill with pull tabs, at least the 4x12's. (I should not have sold my SLO stack - bought it from Soldano). Then again it probably got used way more than I could have since then.
Rock on, RAGER! You're inspiring me to make a pedal board (of sorts) ie unbox some pedals and check them out again.

I have the guitar and amp). I' do something soon for you
6x12?
That looks nice, what are we calling that guitar... SG Jr.?
6x10 actully, cantilevered, front loaded. I think it was for a bass amp so I let it go to its proper home with a punk bassist that had to have it. I never did get the S1200 but had a Model T, ferrocious, though a reissue. ps. I do love 10" guitar speakers say in a 2x10 combo. Had a tweed 3x10 for awhile, loved it.
The SG is a 2006 reissue I think of a '67 Jr., batwing pickguard. Its got a Wolftone P90, Pigtail bridge. Just remebered it's got a broken tuner - the plastic butter bean or whatever they call it. Time to fix it.

Nice setup. Is that the old skool Analogman Delay? I just got the flat box version. They are lovely.
What is the light blue box just below the power supply?

Thanks, yes that is the old Dual Analog Delay, I bought it new in 2011... sometimes I think about the flat box though, specially since I've had to replace both footswitches two or three times so far, maybe the flat box can be less prone to reduce the lifespan of the 3PDTs. The big light blue box is the MJM Sixties Vibe.
